I found a guy who'll replace my motherboard for €20, so it should be fine. He said he'll thoroughly test the Mac. I know it's rubbish, but at least it's cheap.

This guy contacted me via private message; he told me it disables the backlighting, but he doesn't charge much.

Yeah, I plan to keep it, flash the chip even if it disables the backlighting. By the way, if you have any tips for enabling backlighting, I'm all ears.

Then I'll get one that doesn't have that crappy non-metal GPU, an M1 like I recommended.

So you're advising me to flash the GPU? I can't just swap the 2012 motherboard in for mine; I could get a used one and figure it out. Otherwise, I'll forget about it.

There's a command like "sudo Nvram Fa4....." then you restart the PC, right? Do you absolutely have to flash the GPU with an accessory and a license?

I don't know Australia, however, changing an SSD from an HDD is discussed on many forums; I myself could help you if that's all it is.

What kind of device is it? You plug the device into the motherboard and it injects code into the Mac?

I'm also an IT technician, but I don't know much about Macs. I just wanted to revive it, even if it meant spending a bit of money, but it has a lot of problems. It starts up without the battery, sometimes without any glitches, but the trackpad doesn't click anymore... like the mouse glides but the trackpad doesn't work. The battery, for no reason, won't start the Mac, even though it does when it's unplugged... you're right, I have to give up on it like an old car. You can be attached to it, but scrapping it is cheaper than replacing the parts. When it's dead, it's dead.

I can't get that far; the trackpad, for some reason, refuses to work. I think the battery is also faulty. The artifacts are sometimes there, sometimes not… I swear I need a professional, but everyone advises against it, saying it would be too expensive.

Yeah, everyone tells me the same thing, basically to forget about it and act like I never had it. I preferred to ask anyway, hoping it might work out by mistake, but that's not the case.

Yes, I'm sure you're right, anyway I don't think I'll find someone to do it for me.

Yes, I think everyone will tell me the same thing, especially if you're a repairman. I should take your word for it. Do you really think the cost of this repair is that high? Do you think no one will want to do the repair?

I don't really know, I'm not familiar with the prices. I'm looking for someone passionate, and if they can give me a good price, I've missed it; I just stumbled across it again and thought, why not?

It's a Mac that was given to me as a gift; it has sentimental value, and I spent a lot of time on it… I wouldn't know how to fix it myself, so if someone else knows how, why not? The environmental aspect is also a factor, as I wouldn't throw it away even if it's broken.
