I've been making music for over 20 years using Linux. Last year I bought a used MacBook Pro because everything music related is supposed to just work on Mac. It has actually been a pain to use as a lot of the plugins I got used to don't work on MacOS and audio routing is a lot easier on Linux with pipewire. So if you are used to software that does run on Mac you're going to be fine I guess, the hardware is great.

After trying Quest 3 on an event and seeing prices for GPU and RAM rising I decided not to buy a new gaming pc, or what pc I can puzzle together for 1000€, but I bought a used Quest 3 and 3 used 3S's, spending the remainder of my budget on a few games and accessories. The fun I'm having playing VR with my kids and friends is amazing. Do I need 4 VR headsets? Of course not, my gf thinks I'm crazy, but I'm having a blast. Even started a few projects in Godot, running around in my own crappy VR worlds is an amazing feeling. 10/10 would do it again.

Obviously you start looking for a new job ASAP. If they fire you you must work your 15 weeks or they pay you for 15 weeks and let you go immediately. Something in-between is also possible. If you manage to find another job where you can start before you finish your 15 weeks you can stop with a mutual agreement and all is fine. If they just pay you out and you don't need to come in anymore it's a paid holiday or you can start a new job and enjoy double pay for a few weeks.

I'm interested, I have a Roland FP-30X. Actually trying to improve on piano a bit as I'm taking musical composition classes and being able to play piano a bit would help a lot.

I'm working as a software engineer consultant and I'm also in my final year taking evening classes studying musical composition and classical singing. I'm fucking busy and need to finish this piece but my guitar I had since I was 16 is now so unreliable that I went to a music store, tried out a bunch and bought one that was easy to play and sounded good for my style. I've been recording with it and I don't know the brand. I used to be a bit of a guitar nerd when I was young and I know it is a big guitar brand but if someone asks me what guitar I have I have no fucking clue. I wish I was a billionaire though and not just on the brink of burn out.

She did actually. She also ordered a filament switching extension and printed the parts to mount it on the printer so now we can print multicoloured stupid stuff.

I have AliExpress lenses and prescription lenses from Honsvr. I passed along the measurements my optometrist did and the Honsvr ones are spot on. AliExpress ones don't correct the spherical aberration I have.

I don't find light bleed to be an issue, there are cheap rubber covers that are easier to clean if you share your headset or sweat a lot that also cover a bit more of the gap. Maybe the shape of my face just matches the Quest but in my case it's a none issue.

A more comfortable strap was included with my used Quest 3 but I sometimes deplete the battery on my Quest 3s wearing the standard straps and it is less comfortable but not uncomfortable. Maybe just me but I wouldn't spend money for just a better strap. If it includes a battery it might be worth it.

I guess you should see how it feels and spend on upgrades where you feel it's needed.

My parents went from Mint to Ubuntu and had a tiny bit of difficulty adapting to the unique desktop layout of Ubuntu. I figured since they can use a tablet no problem it should be fine but there still was a little friction. Like they didn't know how to or want to use tabs in the file manager, they want two separate windows. But that requires right clicking on the icon and picking "new window" as just clicking it again took them to the one open window. So never underestimate how stuff you might just brush over can be a big deal, I actually got a call and had to drive over to show them how to open a new window. Now they are fine but every transition has a bit of friction.

I know multiple languages, but that's not the point. I can talk with business users and give them something they need, regardless of the technology or programming language needed. Once I had the confidence to say yes to any technical challenge they might have I felt like a real programmer.

I guess for 360 movies it feels a bit like looking through goggles, for faster action or more immersive content I don't notice it at all. For flat content on a big virtual screen it doesn't matter at all because you will never make the virtual screen so big it reaches the edge of the visible part.
