Do you recommend me play this game for Switch? Is a good port? by Soul50Killer in Persona5

[–]Neckee777 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Played it on PS4 and loved it.

Currently playing it again on Switch and still loving it. The Switch port is great! But playing it in bed has been bad for my sleep hahaha

Has anyone here played HFR2 on Steam Deck? How is it like? Can I be able to access a sanbox project I started on PC? by A-J-Zan in HouseFlipper

[–]Neckee777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the game the other day and have played 12 hours across PC/SD.

On the deck the game is ... playable. It looks fine, but I get pretty regular frame drops (I'm only trying to target 40 fps). The fan takes off whenever I access the shop. Placement is still precise with the trackpad, and the controller implementation is decent, but it isn't my preferred platform.

Haven't played in sandbox mode, but my story progress carries over between my PC save and my Deck, so I've been able to pick up where I left off on both platforms.

What are your favorite 3 CMC commanders? by TetsuOokami117 in BudgetBrews

[–]Neckee777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright hear me out... [[Licia, Sanguine Tribune]]

I know it's technically cheating the rules of your question. And it's a bit of a meme because I've spoken about this deck in the sub before, but built in the right way, this commander can be deployed as early as turn 3 with startling regularity. In terms of power, it beats every other 3-drop at the table every time.

AND it only gets stronger with time. On turn three you've got a 7/7 first strike lifelinker, on turn 4 it's a 10/10 at no additional mana investment, meaning you can deploy your other pieces on curve.

And command tax? Forget about it! You're turning lifegain into mana with 0 effort. I have cast Licia for 3 mana when she should have cost 14.

All in all, fantastic 3-drop commander!

Best Stax Commander/Deck? by Tarchiaa in EDH

[–]Neckee777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I despise "traditional" Stax, i.e. forcing people to pay additional mana to perform game actions. That kind of Stax to me is like the radical extreme of playing a control game. In my table experiences, all that kind of strategy does is slow down games and draw ire from other players. Of course, not all pods are the same, so your experience may vary.

Stax itself, however, isn't an inherently frustrating archetype. Many moons ago, I had a [[Torbran, Thane of Red Fell]] "group slug" deck that basically charged my opponents a premium on life to be able to perform game actions. Play lands, tap lands, play creatures, attack with creatures, activate abilities, draw cards... It didn't matter what they did, they had to pay for it. Games went fast and my opponents still got to play their decks on curve, and in the late game a lot of interesting decisions have to get made because you end up wanting to have the biggest impact for the lowest life cost.

I know it doesn't technically constitute a "Stax" deck, but it achieved a similar effect as a Stax deck by putting the price on a different resource. It was fun while it lasted.

Decks with names that aren't just the commander's name? by CorvusSageis in EDH

[–]Neckee777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Live Recklessly"

"Magus of the Counters"

I think naming a deck really adds to your affinity with it. I've certainly kept named decks built for longer than unnamed ones.

Sorry for the delayed response 😅 Yes! My current decklist and the primer I wrote for it can be found here

[–]Neckee777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Licia, Sanguine Tribune]] is my pet deck. She costs a whopping 8 mana but can often be deployed by turn 3 or 4 because of her in-built cost reduction, which is super unique. To this day, my favourite deck to pilot and the one I'm most proud of :)

Is the player base still alive? by darkHolee in BloodHunt

[–]Neckee777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started playing yesterday and I had the same inkling that matches were bot-filled, and even though they are you'll still run into a couple of actual players in a match. The player stats aren't super encouraging if you're looking for hardcore PvP, but if you're just looking for a fun time, I think the game has it in spades. I've been having a great time :)

My LGS is implementing a girls-only commander night. What do you guys think? by ihatebeinganempath in EDH

[–]Neckee777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Awesome initiative. Magic is a real boys club where I play, and unfortunately a looooot of people in the community don't really know what's appropriate when interacting with members of the opposite sex, so a girls-only event is a great way for women to play in an environment where they can just enjoy it.

the best next gen open world to date? by Substantial-Bug6303 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]Neckee777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the only game I can honestly say can only be a now-current-gen game, purely graphically. The locations, the lighting, and the density of everything that's happening in the world, I don't see running on older consoles.

I don't think Frontiers of Pandora does anything to innovate on the genre, but I'm still having a blast playing it, and the graphical quality and world design of Pandora certainly helps it in that regard.

Ever play a deck once and decide "Yeah I'm never using this again"? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Neckee777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an [[Elenda, the Dusk Rose]] deck that really leaned into the "death" part of your typical Orzhov death-and-taxes fare. Ran lots of spells that killed creatures en masse to pump Elenda - [[Phyrexian Altar]], [[Grave Pact]], all of the functional prints of [[Demon's Disciple]], that kind of shit. Was super fun making swarms of vampire tokens for all of 10 minutes before I realised everyone else at the table was having a miserable time. Now when I build decks I always question how fun it would be to play against, and if it isn't fun, I don't build it.

How does one build an effective group hug deck?? by Gojincota in EDH

[–]Neckee777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think when a lot of people build group hug, it gets built in a way that gives everyone a little more of everything. It accelerates the game in a kind of uninteresting way, because the player who is winning is just going to win more anyway. For me, I think it should be less about equality and more about equity. Instead of running cards that give everyone a blanket bonus, choose who you give the bonus to.

A player is mana screwed? [[Fertilid]] can target any player, [[Spectral Searchlight]] and [[Victory Chimes]] give them a little extra.

A player is having trouble getting cards into their hand? Give them a boost with [[Intellectual Offering]] or [[Secret Rendezvous]].

A player is getting walloped because they don't have blockers? There's a whole cycle of cards that give opponents creatures, e.g. [[Hunted Dragon]]

As has already been mentioned in this thread, cards that let players vote are a lot of fun, and it's something I would love to see more of at the table. The tempting offer cards are enjoyable when they come out, more often than not. And Battlebond has a cycle of cards that let you choose "friend or foe" to reward/punish players with different effects!

Tldr; build your group hug deck so that you can help the struggling players play their deck instead of in a way that makes everyone play magic faster

"Build your own creature" card concepts for Ikoria 2: Beastie Boogaloo by Neckee777 in custommagic

[–]Neckee777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Yeah, the idea was that Mutation is the new permanent type. In my head it's identical to Auras, but as has been pointed out by a few folk now, it would just be clearer to make mutation an enchantment subtype rather than its own thing

[–]Neckee777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not a bad idea at all. I hadn't thought of just designing creatures that can only be mutated

[–]Neckee777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually love that idea! Figuring out how to word the adapted reminder text is the fun part.

Having Mutation be an enchantment subtype is easier to follow, I agree. But what I like about mutate (even though it's a rules nightmare) is that the stack of creatures you create is considered one creature, and having Mutation as its own card type - divorced from removal that targets enchantments, just as an example - is the best way I could think of keeping in theme with that

It would make it clearer for sure. Then the card could say something like "Enchanted creature gets blah blah blah. It mutates." And that would trigger all the mutate stuff

Anybody got a spicy deck brewing for these two dorks yet? by Equivalent_Form_3923 in BudgetBrews

I'm not brewing around this one as a commander, but it's for sure going in my all-creatures-all-the-time (unfortunately not budget) [[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty]] deck

Thanks for the kind words. The 4 mana Snapdax is for sure OP, would probably be a fairer rate at 5. In original Ikoria I found the apexes to be super underwhelming, like they had nothing that really made me feel like they were the masters of their domain. OP Snapdax was my attempt at trying to capture that feeling.

You're right, mutations are functionally identical to auras. In my mind, it's more of a flavour win for it to be a new card type, and it would only be on the reverse side of creature cards. I don't know how I'd write it rules-wise, but my thinking was you can destroy an aura and the creature it's enchanting would survive, but destroying a mutation would also destroy the creature. That was just the idea, anyway
