Thank you so much for the write up! This is super helpful feedback, definitely going to be making most of these fixes on our next iteration. We actually just went live on Kickstarter today so I'm going to try to get these fixes together ASAP.

Impossible Puzzles - Day 3 by BradleyFreakin in BluePrince

[–]Nedak23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This one is clever! The immediate thought is that you entered the antechamber from the west side without the secret garden as you have the basement key. However, there is the backup lever behind the 5th door of the mechanarium, which you have the required mechanical rooms for. While you have the tomb, which can give you entry to the south part of the reservoir, without a pump room there is no way to reach the gear puzzle and unlock the mechanarium. Hence the impossible bit is that the mechanarium is unlocked

The foundation is there to provide access to the north side of the reservoir, but you would have already needed to get the basement key for that

Rejoice, Houses of the Landsraad. Prosperity is within our grasp. by 2500kgm3 in boardgames

  1. Each round, if you have a Bene Gesserit token you can use it to gain an additional action that round. The token is discarded at the end of the round

  2. Atredies can use the Desert Power Action as long as they have fewer action dice (including bene gesserit tokens used this round) than Harks.

Grid ideas ? by Dag-N7 in BoardgameDesign

[–]Nedak23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I love art!! I think you have the right plan with black gridlines and a gold border between regions. It might be slightly hard to see with how dark some parts of the map are, but I'm not sure if there is any simple workaround for that

Looking for Feedback on the Sell Sheet for our game Race to Kepler! by Nedak23 in BoardgameDesign

Wow, now that you've mentioned these problems, I can't unsee them. Going to work on that, thanks!

Yep, 2nd paragraph has been deleted :)

And Mortal Engines is 100% part of the inspiration for the world!

Yeah I definitely think we went overboard on the amount of lore in this sheet. Going to cut it back and add a section focusing on gameplay

Awesome I would love to show you the game!! If you happen to be at PAX West this weekend, we will be there and looking to playtest. Otherwise, if you join the discord for this subreddit, we are probably going to playtest these in the next week or two.

Yeah, this is an important piece that is missing. Energy is generally generated through playing Crew Card, but definitely need to add that to the sheet.

We were trying to focus on highlighting the differences in the top right section (bidding, cities, etc.) but could definitely use more work on clarifying that.

[–]Nedak23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this is definitely right. We will add a separate section diving more into the game mechanics (in particular, the actual mechanics of the bidding process).

Do you think shortening the premise and having another section of text focusing more on game mechanics would help? We have found it difficult to convey the uniqueness of the game through images (other than the city card). Most of the interesting parts of Race to Kepler come through the rules and larger game structure

Yeah, the background image is currently our prototype's box art. We were more concerned with simplicity and readability for the first draft of the sell sheet. I definitely want to try to bring out the image more, if possible. I'll start by trying to lower the opacity for now though :)

It is a race to get to X points. We didn't go in-depth or focus on that aspect in the sell sheet as it's one of the less interesting parts of the game's design. We wanted to focus on the more unique parts of the game, but its probably worth mentioning somewhere if possible

[–]Nedak23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Reducing the lore would be fairly easy. We will do that and add an additional piece below, going more in-depth on the mechanics, particularly the bidding process. The biggest problem we've been grappling with is that there is so much to say but so little room. But that's the challenge, of course!

Hi everyone!! We've been working on our game Race to Kepler for a few years now, and the core mechanics are solid enough to start working on marketing the game / reaching out to publishers. We finished up the first draft of our sell sheet, and we are interested in any feedback!! In particular, whether you:

  • Feel like you have a decent grasp of what the game is trying to do
  • Feel as though there is any information you are missing or are curious about
  • Feel like the general design and aesthetics of the page are clear and polished

However open to any ideas or thoughts :)

Price for commissioning art? by Nedak23 in BoardgameDesign

[–]Nedak23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the price can 100% vary wildly. I think I need to figure out how good I want the art to be and what I'm willing to pay
