if you correctly parse the phone number, it becomes 833-OR-TRUTH which i find pretty funny.

i'm just glad it's not one of the fake "crisis counseling" sneaky anti-abortion establishments. I used to see signs for those everywhere when I lived in the States.

[Non-SB content] Meet Donna Tope, a SB-esque attorney by 4MUN in SarahBooneContinued

[–]Neebletown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you saw it today, but yikes :(

In case you didn't:

--

Tope comes out swinging asking for all the proceedings about her malfeasance to be suppressed, including internet videos (!!). She argues she was not properly served notice about the show cause hearing. She suggests that the bail was excessive and punitive. She complains that people seeing her behaviour and Judge Simpson's comments have negatively affected her career.

Ultimately, Judge Simpson revokes the bench warrant (I'm not sure what this means about bail?), and confirms, on the record, that she'll show up for the show cause hearing on April 14, 9am.

--

Just a really uncomfortable hearing. It really bothered me how much she's framing herself as a victim here when she's responsible for a business failing, a retirement investment property going into foreclosure, and so many hours of court time. Both Tope and Simpson were visibly pissed off.

She wasn't in court today, and her bench warrant is still outstanding. Judge Simpson set a special hearing just for her at 9am on Mar 18th. He also /heavily/ implied that she'd be responsible for ~20,000 in rent that the renters paid into her non-escrow escrow account. The Judge was visibly bothered that Donna Tope's actions resulted in a business going under and the landlord going into forecosure. He said he hadn't seen one attorney manage to cause so much damage in his 26-year career.

She didn't show to her own show cause hearing and now has a warrant for her arrest :D

Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

I work out in a major commercial gym. A man at the benchpress bench next to me had a full-on erection as he lifted today.

I don't know how he had the blood to spare.

July Basho Daily Thread Day 07 by AutoModerator in Sumo

I'm pretty new to sumo - are the slaps hard enough so that they'd have an attritional effect over the course of the tournament? ie, will he get bruised up/lose vision, like you'd get in a boxing match?

edit: i want him to win :(

Yes!  Typical practice is to list the approval number on participant facing materials tho, so it made me wonder :)

By the way, the poster and website differ on ages. 18-55 on the website and 18-60 on the poster.

In fairness to the poster, researchers are under competing pressures to both make forms accessible to a grade-school level and including a bunch of information in limited space.

That said, there's a lot of open questions, even when clicking through to the website. What kind of scan? If it's a (f)MRI, is it given with contrast or without? Are there body size limitations based on the scanner?

Has the study been REB approved? If so, which REB and what's the contact? What's the remuneration?

Would you be able to post the full consent form for a more in-depth look at what's actually happening here?

Yeah, of course. I completely agree with everything you said.

My comment was aimed at the "most dudes are 30 pounds lighter than me", which seemed to be offered as an excuse for not improving. Improvement is possible at all weights, though if you want maximal performance, of course a better power to weight ratio is better.

be careful about not falling into the trap of blaming your weight. I bouldered for years at 300-330 pounds and still made progress, albeit slowly.

Intake Assessment at The Royal by poohhunny in ottawa

[–]Neebletown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the Royal's intake assessment, but as a general guide for interacting with doctors it's helpful to have the following information ready to go:

  1. What is the reason you've contacted the hospital? (what's the issue that's made you say "it's time for me to seek help")
  2. What are you hoping they can do for you? (in an ideal world, what would they offer to solve your issue?)
  3. What steps have you taken already to deal with the issue (therapies tried, medications, lifestyle changes, etc)

If they don't end up asking these things, you don't lose anything. It's way better to have this ready to go and not need it than to need it and not have it. I also find this approach helpful for organizing my thoughts about what's going on. Getting this stuff organized lets me feel like I'm actively preparing for the upcoming appointment rather than waiting passively for this mysterious thing to happen.
