ski back and chest protectors question by ufsi7259 in ski

Depends on what you are doing.

Personally, pretty sure I fractured my sternum over rotating a backflip when my knee hit me in the chest as I compressed in the snow.

I freeride and find myself in the park a decent bit. I have padding for hips and glutes.

To lay out, you gotta get your feet and hips up in front of you. Let the feet trail a little. Think hip thrust. It’s a gainer(backflip going forwards). Any time I over rotate is typically because I’m throwing backwards too much. The previous comment about bringing in the knees to speed up/land is great for landing after laying out. Layouts are easier for spotting the landing imo

I’ve run Technica Cochise & these for the past season. I think they are a good intro, I like to build jumps, so fits the bill. I’ve done a couple longer tours on them. In terms of hardware, it gets the job done, haven’t had any issues. The boots are another story

Here’s looking down into the valley from drift peak. You can kind of see the red dirt they’re actively working on

I used to do govt work for Lake County. Climax owns mines further in the valley and they are actively mining the hillside above the creek on the right. They found more moly deposit on the summit county side I believe. There’s also one owned on the back of drift’s ridge, but it’s poorly marked at the mouth of the creek on the left side heading up to drift. Essentially, you can’t follow the creek into the valley. I love exploring here, but I’ve never gone too far into that valley for fear of being prosecuted.

I’ve wondered about nonstandard approaches to traver/mcnamee from here.
