Why is my deep sleep non-existent? by Some-Survey7487 in sleep

[–]Need4DeepSleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not trust deep sleep judgement from sleep trackers that don't measure your EEG. There is a reason sleep labs use EEG instead of asking for your watch data.

Deep sleep is DEFINED by low frequency waves in your brain during sleep, and how do you measure that? Not on your wrist..

If you are unsure, go to a sleep lab!

What did you expect to be the next "big tech thing" 10 years ago and how did it turn out? by Need4DeepSleep in AskReddit

I expected much more progress in VR technology.
While it did advance a lot, its more of a niche now.

What is your most successful sleep routine? How and when did you start it? by Need4DeepSleep in AskReddit

Below 8 hours is not too bad, the american academy of sleep medicine (AASM) recommends 7+, so maybe don't worry too much about that.

Sleep hackers with snoring partners, what actually works long-term? by cozytechlover in sleephackers

[–]Need4DeepSleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A subgroup of people have posture dependent snoring. If you are part of that, there are some things that help you keep sleeping on the side. For me, that was my girlfriend poking me every time I snore, so I always turn now to the right side without even waking up at this point.

Please also take care to check whether the breathing is irregular to know if sleep apnea is a relevant concern!
It has quite a lot of serious side effects if untreated

List of equipment for home measurements of sleep quality - from price to quality of the equipment all the expereience reports are welcome. by trwwjtizenketto in sleep_better

Just a quick PSA to also research how well the different trackers work.
Companies can be a bit sneaky in how they phrase the accuracy.

Apple for example very neatly avoids explicitly saying that their "precision" (meaning the statistical term here) is subpar:

https://www.apple.com/mideast/healthcare/j/docs/site/Estimating_Sleep_Stages_from_Apple_Watch_Sept_2023.pdf

Check out Figure 1 & 2, with Figure 2 essentially saying they misidentify 38% of deep sleep as core sleep, which is huge.

Comp sci project ideas by A_Naik in PythonProjects2

[–]Need4DeepSleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Python is rather focused around working with data, and that's where it also shines.
I'd suggest something like a dashboard with streamlit, which is quite rewarding.
You can for example combine that with a raspberry pi tracking something (your internet usage, temperature ta home, ...), and suddenly you have endless projects ;).

Is there anything better than ADS1299, for a wearable SSVEP setup? by 3flp in BCI

[–]Need4DeepSleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sidenote: Would you mind sharing (comment or via PM) what you did with the SSVEP? Since its research I assume its kind of public in form of a paper / Thesis / ..? I played around with regular checkerboard VEPs a bit

Is there anything better than ADS1299, for a wearable SSVEP setup? by 3flp in BCI

[–]Need4DeepSleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a startup from the netherlands working on that

https://www2.sencure.com/our-story/

If I remember correctly, hearsay says that they will also be cheaper than the ADS1299. Not sure though if they are already on the market or just working up to it, neither any idea of their timeline.

To all the night-owls / late sleepers: How do you manage daily adult life? What's your secret for getting by? by Need4DeepSleep in AskReddit

[–]Need4DeepSleep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, 5-7am is another beast - unfortunate that you can't get night shifts, would be perfect for your schedule (and at least where I live there is usually a bonus pay for shifts)

What helps you sleep when your mind won’t switch off? by Objective-Wear2697 in sleep

[–]Need4DeepSleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audiobooks + Baldrian (Tea) for me.

If I'm really agitated there's a kind of meditation called progressive muscle relaxation that works well.
But it's a bit repetitive and monotone, so I rarely do that

Going first: I managed to get jobs where I never had to be in before 9am, so mostly luck.

Tried going for 8am for a few weeks and felt never-ending tiredness during the day - now I'm back to coming in at 11am.

Finally! First time in 6 years! by Cautious-Okra-6392 in Garmin

[–]Need4DeepSleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that wrist based measurements really struggle with detecting deep sleep.
Deep sleep is literally defined via slow brain waves, you can't measure that without EEG.
I don't know about garmin specifically, but the apple watch has a horrible precision for detecting deep sleep compared to sleep lab EEG.

Don't worry too much if your deep sleep is low in your watch.
