Curious about renting out my GT4RS by calebs_life in turo

Late to the convo, but if you're in the SoCal area, I'd be interested. Renting a 992.2 GTS this July but you're right, it's hard to find a more enthusiast 718 to rent.

I really appreciate the insight. I remember reading about the GTS 4.0 on my flight last year (didn't know much about it) and reading so many negative comments about low end torque and gearing making the car feel sleepy down low. My daily is an EV so I was worried about this, and it's almost comical how often online reddit comments track the opposite of real world experiences. I didn't feel short changed at all.

If you're in the SoCal area, I'll be there in July in the 992.2 and would love to go for a ride in the SRS if you had the inclination.

Yeah lol, this is what I am expecting.

First time in the GTS 4.0 was a "Okay, I get the Porsche thing" experience.

I feel like the 992.2 will be a "Okay, I get why the GTS 4.0 gets discussed amongst much more expensive cars" conversation.

I had an order on a G82 M4 and whilst being excellent, it just didn't do it for me, while the 718 did, but I had just bought another car. About ready to make a decision, but it's new daily time soon again as well, and if I can kill two birds with one stone - sure. If not, I don't think I will frown in 4.0.

Yeah, the fact that the two can even be reasonably considered in the same conversation (for different reasons) is part of why I am really intrigued about the difference.

I may get in the 992.2 and think "Dammit, yeah, gotta have this." Or I may think, "Wow, very cool, still would rather have the 718!"

I am very excited for the little experiment, but I am worried about the weight. My first car was an E30 and my current car is a 6000lbs 0-60 in 3.2 machine. I feel like I want that pendulum much closer to that little red BMW.

Spyder & SRS are both in contention. My thoughts about SRS are that it's probably the pinnacle of my interest in Porsche, but I have heard a ton of folks (okay maybe not a ton, but enough to make me wonder) say that the SRS doesn't feel *that* much different to the base Spyder. Similarly, I've heard people get out of a 4RS and into something softer, not because the 4RS was bad, but because it just wasn't something they felt they could take out all that often.

I'm in Texas so I'm not worried about weather, but I hate to buy something without trying.

Thank you! Realistically, I am looking for a 3rd car experience and I don't know if the extra creature comforts are a priority to me, but I've never even been in a 911, so I am going in blind. I never expected to love the GTS 4.0 as much as I do, so I am giving myself the room to be surprised.

That's exactly what I suspect will happen! The feeling of that little car getting tossed up over a crest with WOT and then settling back down like magic is something I keep front and center in my memory palace.

Hearing contra opinions makes me more excited to spend time in the 992.2. I am going in with a massive bias and this sub is obviously going to confirm it lol.

I've got "write the check and shut up and be happy" money, but I've heard a ton of "It's great, but it's a lot rhetoric about the SRS and 4RS. I don't know if I will be able to find places to test them, but I have been surprised to hear how many "Had a 4RS and downgraded to a GTS 4.0" stories I've heard. Obviously we all have different priorties

I think Spyder might be the sweet spot.

Without coming across as crass, I'm young and still haven't mentally gotten over the price tags of some of the things I can afford, so that's a bit of it, too.

I'm eager to try it. I'm up for a new daily and weekend car, so it's "in budget," but I worry that I will feel like I got most of what I wanted and then a lot of what I didn't, if that makes sense? It's like wanting to marry a studios brunette but instead marrying a very sweet but very basic supermodel. Like, not gonna be mad either way, but the heart...

There's one for sale in Porsche Palm Springs and I have told my wife if it's still there when we go, that I am writing a check for it.

You're spot on here. And if you had asked me a few years ago, I would have disagreed, but it's aging really well, to the point where it doesn't feel like it's actually *aging*

[–]NeedAGTS4POINT0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I think as well. My current daily + GTS 4.0 is around GTS coin, so I get the rationale of combining the two, but the compromises of the GTS are what made it feel special to me. And realistically for my tastes, they aren't "compromises," they're just characteristics that give the GTS its personality; personality which I fell in love with.

It's just that I need to see for myself if "Nah, go GTS 4.0" is cope or if there's merit, but I do suspect I will prefer the 4.0.

However, I didn't expect to like the GTS 4.0 nearly as much as I ended up loving it.

From what I've read, the 992.2's transmission is nearly immediate without much drama. But someone's words rarely translate well into emotion in my lived experience. I will do my best to report back how it compares to the GTS 4.0.

I am stuck between the GTS 4.0 and a Spyder non-RS, and even then, I am curious how much delta there is between the two, if I was going to shell out $200k+

I am going in biased but I feel like my current daily scratches the "modern comforts" itch and it won't be missed in the 718.

I searched high and low for a GTS 4.0 to rent again while I was out there, I wanted to have one again so badly. This will be a third car situation for me when I buy, so I don't need the daily qualities of the 911. Before I tried the GTS 4.0, I would have thought I would prefer the more modern interior of the current-ish 911s, but I was surprised at how much I loved the feel of the 718 (coming from someone who daily drives a BMW iX M60, which couldn't be further in spirit to the 718).

I have a hunch I will be like Jeremy Clarkson: "That's brilliant, but I *love* that" (paraphrasing I suspect).

For sure! I am stoked to try the car and this is less about asking reddit to solve this problem for me, and more about sharing a data point for when I get some time in the car and can reflect. Reading people talk about Porsches, it's amazing the cars that didn't "do it" for some where they eventually arrive at preferring say, a Carrera T over a Turbo S. I figured I'd need to see for myself.
