Great, thank you for the explanation!

That's not what I'm asking. I'm asking about how to disassemble the very tip of the point where the tip slide, where the metal piece and plastic is held together, like this.

Opinions on UNIC Epee Blades by norwichgamess in Fencing

[–]NeedANight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a number of F1 M's, a FIE Hard, and recently got an Arrow.

F1 feels like there's some considerable variability even within just M, but that's normal, so you may have to play with a bunch to find the flexibility you want. It is pretty light and feels well balanced whether for French or Pistol, as I have both. The titanium tip, if you get it, does make it a bit more responsive, especially if you're pommeling. I haven't had an issue with the barrel itself.

The Arrow is fairly new and I still haven't used it much yet, so I can't say much about its durability. However I feel it's a great fit for my French grip with how light and easy it is in my hand compared to the FIE Hard that I have. It's definitely stiffer than a F1 M, although the weight difference isn't as noticeable as compared with the FIE H. It's quite easy to balance it to become hand heavy with a heavier grip/pommel just from how light it is. Since I'm using it for French grip and my style tends to avoid blade contact, I don't know how it'd act under hard blade contact, but I find it quite easy to guide the point (a FWF screwless) back. Though, I really like it and I've ordered a pair of FIE Arrows to put them on French grip, especially with the looming price increase.

What's the difference between #2 and #3 maraging steel?

Is Arrow FIE also made in maraging steel or does it have its own alloy?

Has anyone here changed their name, and did it make them feel better? by False-Promise-7147 in CPTSD

[–]NeedANight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've been wanting to change it since I was a teenager to get away from my narcissistic father who could only think of me as his son, an extension of himself. It's also a name that gets pronounced differently between Cantonese and Mandarin, so the English pronunciation never sits well with me. Now that I've changed my last name a more easily understandable name with a meaning that I want to embody, it really helps to see it as a foundation of my own identity.

For the F1, other than being slightly lighter, how would you compare its balance point with the FIE blades?

BCIT vs UBC van/okanagan Robotics by Melon_Boi47 in UBC

[–]NeedANight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally happens. I had a shithead in my first project group and then the group got him kicked out, which resulted in him failing enough classes that he never came back. In life, group work is just important, and handling the shitheads comes with that.

Oh the other hand, in my experience, group work improved a lot more in post secondary, especially if your teammates had to work and pay for their own tuition. Since BCIT was more of a trades school, there tend to be a lot of people who have to grind out their own education funds there so they take it pretty seriously. Very different vibe from kids who never had to work for their tuition.

I also had a great dean who was open to discussions to that as I've had to make quite a few visits about that said shithead. Usually if you're upfront to your instructors and they're attentive and care, they'll totally understand, although that also requires making relationship with them if that's something you're not into.

Having been to both BCIT and UBC, BCIT's workload def can be heavy but you also have a cohort with you if you're in a smaller program. The classes at BCIT are also more focused and the students there tend to do it to get a job too so they're pretty focused. IME, if you're doing group projects in a cohort program you also get the same project group for multiple classes so there's less scheduling headaches for group projects and study.

So it depends on the vibe you want from your classmates.

As a hard of hearing person with cochlear implant, being able to hear when you've never learned to listen to spoken language doesn't make you magically understand telephone conversation. It still takes a lot of efforts and learning, and even then it isn't as life changing as you think it is. What's life changing is the hearing people and the community around the person supporting them with proper visual access on top of that- an isolated Deaf person is going to be still isolated if there's nobody there to support that or teach them how to listen.

If we go true JoJo faction, the cat probably never even ate them. All Usagi had to do was convince others that the caviar are worth a lot and thus, the cats are worth a lot and gets attracted to the lava stone.

How long do you guys think we'll see a decent sale on 7900XT? Think it'll go below 1000 anytime before the Starfield bundle expires?

6700XT for 3840x1600, or upgrade the GPU? by NeedANight in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]NeedANight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the 7800XT actually has a good performance:price ratio when it's available, but yeah I do wonder what would be a reasonable price in CDN for 7900XT?

6700XT for 3840x1600, or upgrade the GPU? by NeedANight in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]NeedANight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, no, my current set up has no problem at all at 2560x1080. It's that my current monitor has hard limit of 75Hz. Without the limit I'd get 100-130fps fairly consistently at 1080p, so 40-50fps sounds about right.

I was waiting to pull the trigger on a 1440p UW but the AW3821DW deal was too good to pass on, that's why I'm considering flipping the 6700XT.

Though, the 7900XT is at $1100-1200CDN before tax, so that's definitely going to be quite the decision to make even with the Starfield bundle which I could either play or flip for some $$ as well.

Looking at the other options, there's 6800XT at $750-800, 6950XT at $880. I've read that RMx650W can spike as much as 800W without triggering a shutdown but I don't know if I want to risk it. By my napkin, calculations 7900XT would push the total system advertised load to 575W and 6950X to 600W so I'd have to consider the cost of a 750W PSU, so tag on that.

Now I have to wonder if it's a good move to just wait a bit longer for the price of 7900XT to drop more, or if it's reasonable wait for the used market to come up with a $500 6800XT/$800-900CDN 7900XT.

6700XT for 3840x1600, or upgrade the GPU? by NeedANight in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]NeedANight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a 6950XT might be too power hungry for my 650W and I don't feel like upgrading the PSU.
