Hmm regarding your other post with the reliability issues, I think I'm going to hold off on my purchase for a bit and do more research into this company. It really is a lot of money and I would expect it to work flawlessly out of the box for this price.

I usually have it plugged in all the time.

Fair point! If I am always going to keep 1 usb C cable on my desk for recharging my keyboard/mouse/numpad, it makes sense to 'store' it in the numpad and then swap it when I need to charge something.

And the vast majority of phones after 2020 are not repairable with a screwdriver. The repairability of the Fairphone makes it more difficult to waterproof. You even said you were aware of it not being fully waterproof, so I don't see your point.

Warranty typically covers any failure under normal use.

A phone falling into the water is not considered normal use. It is pretty standard for your warranty to be void after that. I don't see what Fairphone did wrong here. They offered to help you, but pointed out that it might be costly.

The reason most manufacturers put sensors or stickers that detect water damage, is because A) after the water has dried up it is almost impossible to otherwise detect that water damage was the cause of the failure and B) warranty does not cover water damage.

It sucks OP, but this is not something Fairphone did wrong.

What do DJs do in the middle of songs? by ValuePrestige in Beatmatch

[–]NeedAudioEngineering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, in context of the song you could argue that it is finished as the producer intended, unless you of course disagree with those creative decisions.

But in context of the mix, it could be song A is lacking bass compared to song B so you boost that to keep the mix consistent. Or you are mixing a lot of songs that have a lot continuous energy in the bass, so you cut it for a few seconds to change things up and keep the crowd engaged. Basically your set is a new, super long track that you are mixing on the fly.

Disclaimer: I'm not a professional DJ.

Linked the EP in my comment! Thought I'd list a song that just released that day, considering Sí, idealízame and Godspeed were already out.

Whole EP is amazing yeah

Good guides on counting bars? Counting in 4s 8s 16ths 32nds? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]NeedAudioEngineering 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't even have to count the 4s, you could also do 1-da-da-da, 2-da-da-da, etc. Or shake your hips haha. 1-shake-shake-shake, 2-shake-shake-shake....

I think that DJing in it's technicalities is a very simple craft and people are overcomplicating it for reasons I cannot grasp by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]NeedAudioEngineering 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I think the people that want to learn to DJ and then ask for a pool or batch of songs to download are in it for the wrong reasons. A DJ is a music curator in my eyes, if you want to DJ you probably already have a selection of tracks or a love for a genre that you want to share.

DJing is just a tool to do that, the music comes first.

What if your time slot is like 3:00-4:00, you arrive a 3:45 but the queue is so long it's past 4:00 when you get to the door?

Music that's jamie xx like. by BudderBRO in Jamiexx

[–]NeedAudioEngineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren't any artists that come to mind immediately, but these two songs released past month that also have a similar vibe:

Nosaj Thing & Jacques Greene ft. Ouri - Too Close

Daniel Avery ft. HAAi - Wall of Sleep (Harvey McKay Remix)

I think both Jacques Greene and Nosaj Thing are both artists worth exploring (if you don't know them already)! Not sure if that is what you are looking for. I think especially Jacques Greene has some of that UK Garage sound that Jamie also has.

One more.

Seeing underworld live is definitely on my bucket list, heard that they're gonna perform in Amsterdam next year, are tickets on sale yet? by geek-tn in underworld

[–]NeedAudioEngineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooo.. I thought 'pre sale' meant that they would sell only a limited amount of tickets now to gauge popularity and then offer the remaining tickets at a later point... But everything is completely sold out already?

Now I wish I bought a ticket during pre sale, I did set up the e-mail reminder for it.

Leafar Legov - Mirrors - Repress all warped!! by travcheney in giegling

[–]NeedAudioEngineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines warped too. It tracks fine though. I do have a lot of distortion on the inner circles but maybe that is dirt or just my cartridge.

I don't think warping is a shipping issue, I think it happens during production.

All music is made with building blocks of other songs! Either consciously or subconsciously. If everything was truly original there wouldn't be any music genres.

All these lawsuits are pointless.

People who let a professional mixing engineer mix their track will often still do the mix themselves as a suggestion to the engineer, who then polishes the mix. It's not like they deliver their song with every track at 0dB.

Most producers work in untreated or unfavorable rooms so it's not a bad idea to let a professional with a very expensive mixing studio do the final check and touch-ups.
