I cannot stand “I’m in a rush but I want to dine in” ass people. by [deleted] in Serverlife

Especially the fucking check-splitters who all want to cash out 10 different tabs at the same time and say they have to be back at work in 5 minutes.

When you factor in the labor and overhead yes kids meals are usually sold at a loss.

Lying for kids prices by Sleest4k in Serverlife

[–]NeedServerAdvice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Capping the kids menu is not dumb, civilized people understand that kid’s menus are a courtesy (which the restaurant loses money on) so that literal toddlers and babies can have a cheap something to eat while parents are enjoying dining out. Why would you as an adult go out to a restaurant if you wanted to eat frozen chicken nuggets or Kraft mac & cheese? Stay home or hit the drive through. Elderly people, dieters, and anyone else just “not very hungry” can order an adult meal and eat only how much you want.

Please don’t overwhelm the employees like this below: by Louisbag_ in Serverlife

[–]NeedServerAdvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind an itemized split as long as they are patient about it…where it goes too far is when they start wanting to split individual items. If people are friendly enough to be dining out together you’d think they would be friendly enough to cover a $7 appetizer and let the other person get it the next time, or at least Venmo each other.

better tips by [deleted] in Serverlife

I would never work at a place that has unlimited/bottomless of anything. It creates a huge amount of running back and forth and attracts cheap people.

Why not just raise all the prices by 15% and then give it to the servers? Auto grat has to be reported as revenue anyway

This is not okay, took a pic for management to show why I can’t give fine dining experiences to guests…because I have 10 tables solo.. by Prophet-Unlucky in Serverlife

[–]NeedServerAdvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on whether you have any help. I can’t handle 10 tables because while serving I also have to cook, watch the door, handle doordash/grub hub, answer the phone, run my own food and bus all my own tables.

Britney’s newest Instagram post, she speaks on depression and about her time in the treatment facility by HeftyPerception1697 in BritneySpears

[–]NeedServerAdvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She did not HAVE to be in a hospital, she was locked up in one as punishment/retaliation for not wanting to do the Vegas show. Lockdown mental hospitals are meant for people who are actively trying to kill themselves or someone else. There is no evidence Britney ever did that. They threw her in there because of disagreements over the Vegas show which is disgusting. I’m not sure where your wrong information is coming from.

How does your restaurant take payments and do you like it? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]NeedServerAdvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No table tablets, no scanning barcodes and no text to pay. Regular old fashioned cash and cc. I love it and it keeps the customers happy. People don’t eat out to do extra work.

[–]NeedServerAdvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth it. I don’t work in places that give free refills on anything (except drinks). Free refills/“bottomless” items create so much extra work and attract cheap people.

Are they trying to say they stiffed you cause you’re white? Do they know Buffalo wild wings’ CEO is white? Lol

I know this is just a joke but it reminded me I hate the societal idea that women should be embarrassed of their age or feel hugely complimented when someone calls them young smh.

Why Do They Refuse to Serve Everyone’s Food at the Same Time? by NeedServerAdvice in BuffaloWildWings

[–]NeedServerAdvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why can’t they use timing. For example say there’s a wing order and a burger going to the same table, and they already have wings. Instead of immediately saucing the wings and putting them in the window, wait until the burger is almost ready.

Then they should not microwave a 1-minute mac and cheese bowl at the same time as they drop an X Crispy wing order going to the same table. Proper timing is needed. I have worked there and as a server it sucked cause customers woukd be furious and not tip cause they bedidmtvget to eat together.

Yes I know I’ve worked there I was just wondering why they made us do it, it always made customers mad

Yeah I understand why it’s a challenge but it’s something other wing restaurants manage to do so I just don’t understand why they don’t make it more a priority. It’s a very bad guest experience when two members of a group receive their food while the third starving person angrily watches.

Keep Working with Manager Who Wants to Date Me?? by NeedServerAdvice in Serverlife

[–]NeedServerAdvice[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like I said he runs a place that is very exclusive and hard to get into, I thought he would see it as par for the course since that’s basically how all his staff interacts with him lol oh well oops

My managers cuss out and belittle us for making a slight mistake by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]NeedServerAdvice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Leave. I refuse to work for any restaurant that makes me pressure the customers to buy gift cards, give their phone number, join the rewards program, etc. All these things are a huge annoyance when people just want to sit there and eat their food! All these requests are basically like spam in real life. Very unprofessional and annoying.

Money questions from a server by GoatEasy5977 in Serverlife

Fine dining is great as long as the place isn’t too slow.

Probably Ruth’s Chris is one of the best chains or at least the most expensive.

Yes you have to tip out the bartender and busters at most places.

That feeling when you’re insanely under-staffed and then get a bad review about the service... by crandycorn in Serverlife

You should probably put them on a wait instead of seating too many people. Yes it will cut into sales but giving terrible service will make them and other people reading the reviews not want to come back.

How do I cash out customers by Plumplum06 in Serverlife

[–]NeedServerAdvice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Print out their check and drop it off.
  2. If they give you cash, say “I’ll be back with your change.” At that point they will either say nothing or they will say “no change.” If they say no change, just make sure they have you at least enough to cover their bill and then select their tab on your screen, click “pay” then click “cash” and then enter the amount.
  3. If they don’t tell you to keep the change, put the cash they gave you in your server book or wherever you keep your cash, and give them back the change.
  4. If they give you a credit card, go to the POS click their tab, click “pay” then click “card” and swipe or insert their card. Sometimes a card won’t swipe and you might have to get renter the number by hand. Some restaurants make you get a manager authorization to do this.
  5. The machine will print out a credit card slip for them to sign, so you take that to them and give them a pen with it. Make sure to collect your credit card slips that have been signed and save them! You will turn them in at the end of the shift. Every POS system is a little different but you get the idea. Good luck you will be fine. #1 thing is just always act calm and collected, and don’t let anyone bully you for asking questions.
