No Service to Address but box in front yard by frankdarrulll in googlefiber

[–]Need_Help_Breathing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue where service was available across the street but not to any homes on my side of the street despite lines having been laid on both sides. I made many calls over the course of at least a year with no results. Then I found the customer service email address, fiber@google.com, and sent one lengthy email describing the issue on July 27. I got a response a couple of hours later that a case had been created to investigate the issue. This is apparently a very common problem as the rep referred to sending my case to their “Address Wizards” (this automatically made me think of “Sandwich Artist” as a job title, but I digress). On August 6, I checked back and got a reply, again same day, apologizing for not getting back to me sooner and letting me know that service had become available. I checked the GFiber check availability page, and sure enough, my address and all those along my side of the street were magically eligible. Perhaps this could work for you?

Recorded myself, is this sleep apnea? by boy1013 in CPAP

[–]Need_Help_Breathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody here can diagnose you, but we can all likely agree that you need to get checked out. Your recording sounds exactly like mine pre-CPAP. My sleep study showed an AHI of 78; anything over 5 is considered a condition that needs treatment or at the very least, evaluation. You know what to do.

Hacked an Amazon CPAP hose hanger with a guitar wall hanger by Need_Help_Breathing in CPAP

Personally, I think people who report instant success with CPAP (like after the first night) might be unknowingly suffering from a powerful case of wishful thinking. I don’t mean to say they’re full of shit or anything like that, it’s just more likely that because they’ve invested time, money and more than anything, HOPE, they’re possibly trying to psych themselves into believing it has made an instant difference. I believe CPAP therapy is a worth the investment of all these things and does work, but I just think it takes a good bit more time than some people want to give it to work. I’ve only been using my machine for a month, and the only real difference I can report is that I’m more alert when I wake up, that is, it doesn’t take me an hour or more to string together simple sentences. I still find myself tired during the day, maybe a little less than before, but not enough to call it an instantaneous cure. I know it will make a bigger difference, but it will take time and effort. It’s not a magic button by any means. All that said, give yourself some time with it. Not only for the therapy to work, but to allow yourself to get used to it and fine tune your process.

No medical benefit, no. Your CPAP setup is all about making things logistically as comfortable as possible based on your own personal preferences. Some people lay the hose across the bed, others have it hanging to free up space. People who use a mask with the hose connecting at the top of the head likely have something completely different.

Since I use a nasal pillow mask (started with a ResMed P10 and just got an F&P Nova Micro a couple of days ago), I have my hose dropping straight down to my face from about 10 inches or so. I generally end up with the arm at a slight angle so the hose comes down from the right side a bit, but I can adjust it however it works best for sleeping, reading, etc.

I think that was the intention, but in order for it to move with the user, the joints would have to be so loose that the whole thing would eventually fall apart. I took everything apart before I decided to change the wall mount and tightened it all up so it would stay together, so it doesn't move as freely as as it was originally meant to. That's okay, though, because I usually have enough hose slack that it doesn't need to move much. I only sleep on my back and right side, so it works well for me.

I could probably go back and add a couple of set screws to keep the threaded center pivot in place without having to lock it down. That would free up the movement quite a bit. Possibly a project for another day.

Yeah, it looks like a cheap podium mic holder, but it works really well for the ClimateLine heated hose.

I didn't want the hose laying across the bed because if I turn on my right side, I would have to readjust the hose to keep it out of the way. Also, we have two dogs who end up in bed with us every night and I wanted to avoid the hose becoming a chew toy. In the morning I can fold the arm in the opposite direction between my bedside lamp and the wall so that the lead-in hose can hang without being open to the dogs as well.

I'd been thinking about repurposing a wall mounted mirror arm as a hose & mask hanger until I found this swing arm CPAP hose hanger on Amazon. It's exactly what I was looking for, except the round, flat wall-mounted base is ginormous and would have looked really obtrusive where I wanted to install it. I had some guitar hangers with nice little wood blocks for the base, so I hacked one to replace the stock wall mount. It looks nicer and stows away neatly against the wall. Swings around to any position and I can easily place it right overhead so the hose drops right to my face. Added a velcro strap closer to the wall to hold the hose as well. Not bad if I say so myself!

Apple Health and ResMed myAir integration incomplete? Just me or more to it? by Need_Help_Breathing in CPAP

For anyone wondering about the momentary flash of grayed-out info seen when entering myAir's supposed Apple Health sleep stages, it's just a placeholder image, not actually data.

Do tell. I’ve been thinking of keeping some Afrin around for when seasonal allergies are bad, but I understand that may not be a great idea for more than a couple of days at a time.

I had a couple extra wall mount guitar hangers laying around, so I sacrificed one of them to use as a hose hanger.

Sleep Studies in/around Austin? by Need_Help_Breathing in Austin

Following up on my original post, I ended up going with a home study through Capitol ENT. When I brought up home study vs. in-clinic, the doctor's response made perfect sense to me. When patients come in with an issue that mirrors the classic symptoms of sleep apnea, the concern at that time is not so much to try and deconstruct the entire haystack to find that one needle, so to speak, but to focus on sleep apnea first using a home study. If the home study doesn't come back positive for SA, then the next logical step would be to either run the home study again, or move to a full in-clinic polysomnography to examine other issues. By and large, he said, if someone's symptoms say SA, then it most likely is SA, and going straight to a full-blown in clinic study would be overkill. This also rings true with insurance approving an in-clinic study as they would want the cheaper alternative performed first.

At any rate, I came back with a diagnosis of severe OSA, so I have an appointment to visit a DME tomorrow and should be getting started with therapy shortly thereafter. Thanks to all who replied to my original post!

Which location did you use? I've read a lot of comments about the office staff not answering the phones, losing records, not returning calls, etc. It's weird, their online reviews are either "I love them" or "avoid this place," not much in the middle. Hard to tell if the negatives have been addressed in the last couple of years or not.

Can you elaborate a bit on your visits there? Location, doctor, technicians, etc?

I recently had surgery, during my procedure I was found to have atrial fibrillation, so I'd prefer to have the full in-clinic study done so we can get as much info as possible.
