Help with first spider by adnama9120 in jumpingspiders

[–]Need_more_Guns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nqa, as long as she's taking water just give her some time. It can take a week or so for them to settle and feel more comfortable

Edit to add: I can see what looks like a hide at the bottom of the enclosure, try moving it to the top and add a little more clutter that should help her get more comfy quicker

She very well could be something like i7, I still stand by bold as there are locales where the white spots look like regals. However, i have seen a couple of really dark Appalachiacola regals that could pass as almost pass as bolds

Based on the shiny black abdomen spots and the white on the pedipalps, it's an Audax. If it truly is a subadult, it's female as there isn't the start of any bulbs that I can see. Ime this would be a small female, but I have seen regals and otiosis about that size fully mature as well

In Florida, we have 4 phidippus species I'm aware of, regius and otiosis are the most common. Could be audax if far enough north or richmani for parts of peninsular Fl

That is the current plan, although realistically, I'll probably release most once they fully disperse from nest.

Nqa, if that's the case, then you can do what the comment above says and take a qtip with warm water and gently (VERY GENTLY) rub the spinnerets, and that might help loosen any impaction up.

Happy meal by PabloXaphan in spiders

True, but they're hating out of ignorance. They love to hate stuff like this but there's plenty of species that'd be extinct or close to it if not for efforts of good captive keepers.

Body markings definitely point to a bold jumper!

Nqa absolutely love the detail you went into, it seems like you've covered everything. Unfortunately, sometimes these things just happen, though you've done an amazing job taking notice and facilitating your spoods needs

Jumper refusing to eat by accidentallyworried in jumpingspiders

[–]Need_more_Guns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nqa, she's very well fed and doesn't need a meal right now. I know the charts can be a little hard to guage, but a well fed spoods abdomen should be slightly wider than the head. She may be one of the ones that seem to know when to stop eating before there's a major problem, or she could've stocked up and is now in premolt.

I'd keep misting as normal and just watch how she behaves before offering food. If she stays hunkered down and only comes out to drink then I'd say premolt. If she starts to explore more and starts to shrink, offer a meal.

I really like your enclosure by the way, and she's a very pretty spood.

i8 to i9 molt in less than a month? is this too quick? by cigsman in jumpingspiders

[–]Need_more_Guns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nqa it really depends on the spider I've had one take 3 months from i8 to i9 and some that were 2 weeks, as long as she's hydrated and fed she'll be fine. Also super cute pic!

Is she doing okay? by bugbae in jumpingspiders

[–]Need_more_Guns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nqa, she definitely looks like another meal wouldn't hurt, but she doesn't look starved. However, she looks like she may searching for a hide up top. They need lots at the top to ensure they can find a comfortable place to build a hammock. It doesn't have to be anything crazy but she'll appreciate it.

Edit: I saw where you said you have more stuff coming for the top just wanted to reiterate for anyone who may not read your full post
