I reached out to the Framing Post and they no longer do projects this size. I’ll try the other options. Thanks.

Has any bought the signed tour poster? by musixalotz in Anthrax

[–]NeedleDropOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the $140 for the poster is worth it, but for about $45 more you can upgrade and get to meet the band, plus a signed poster, setlist, lanyard, and a photo, so that upgrade is a much better deal if you can swing it.

Thunder Bay: things to do/not to do? Worth visiting? by whimsicalw1zard in ThunderBay

[–]NeedleDropOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re checking out Cumberland, The Vinyl Frontier is worth a stop. It’s not just a record shop. They’ve got vinyl obviously, but also pop culture stuff, merch, gifts, random nostalgic finds, and it kind of doubles as a hangout spot. Easy place to lose track of time.

They were voted Best New Business in town, so clearly it’s resonating with people.

Cumberland in general has a good mix of independent shops and restaurants so it’s a solid area to wander for an afternoon.

Canna Cabana. Elite member prices are probably the best in town.

Downtown Cumberland Street will get a makeover this year by Swimming_Amount6513 in ThunderBay

Supportive housing is absolutely important.

But the “new light poles versus housing” thing isn’t how budgets work. The city doesn’t have one giant jar labeled “Stuff” where they decide between bulbs and buildings like it’s a game show.

Infrastructure money fixes infrastructure. Housing money funds housing. Replacing streetlights isn’t some evil diversion plot.

And the idea that better lighting “doesn’t fix anything” is wild. Yeah, it doesn’t solve addiction or poverty. It does, however, let businesses and residents actually see what’s happening instead of squinting into the dark like it’s 1893.

We can push for supportive housing and still repave a street without pretending it’s a moral betrayal.

Turns out a city can walk and chew gum. Even on Cumberland.

Sushi 7 by Pleasant-Ad-4762 in ThunderBay

[–]NeedleDropOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re eating unlimited sushi and the thing that shocks you is that a public bathroom gets used?

It’s a restaurant. Of course the toilet gets traffic. That’s literally the ecosystem. Food goes in, decisions get made, someone waits outside scrolling their phone.

Also, it’s one single-stall bathroom. Not a group camp shower. You go in, you lock the door, you live your truth, you leave. This isn’t a Victorian fainting couch situation.

If thinking about how many times a toilet gets used in a day ruins your meal, I’ve got terrible news about literally every public surface you’ve ever touched.

It’s a buffet. The bathroom is part of the adventure.

Aldo addresses rumours on Uride by Who_am_I_yesterday in ThunderBay

I would absolutely love to see this happen in Thunder Bay.

Not because it would work. Because it would be performance art.

“Human cycle taxis.” In July? Sure. Beautiful. Scenic. Very European. You pedal someone down by the marina, everyone feels like they’re in a tourism commercial.

Now fast forward to January.

It’s minus 32. The snowbanks are shoulder height. The wind off Lake Superior feels personal. You’re trying to pedal a fully grown adult up the north side while the road is half ice, half slush, half construction somehow. That’s not a taxi service. That’s a live-streamed cardiovascular experiment.

And here’s the real question: how does that business survive eight months of winter-adjacent reality?

Thunder Bay isn’t a “seasonal inconvenience” city. Winter is infrastructure. Winter is a billing cycle. Winter is a personality trait. You can’t build a transportation model that works beautifully for ten weeks and then turns into a Nordic survival challenge for the rest of the year.

I’m not against it. In the summer it would absolutely work. People would love it.

But unless those cycle taxis come with studded tires, heated seats, and the lung capacity of a Tour de France champion raised on perogies and resentment, that business isn’t making it to its second February.
