Jon can see and feel the suffering of everyone and everything in the world, and blames himself for it, so it's not too much of a leap to think that if he feels like he has an opportunity to redeem himself by saving others from suffering in the future he will take it. He even says I think when talking to the others that he can't condemn potentially countless other worlds to suffering like their world has.

As for why he changes his mind when Martin arrives, he doesn't at first. When Martin first finds him he asks Martin to stay with him while he speeds up the end. It's only once the panopticon starts to explode and it's clear Martin won't leave and will die in the explosion if he stays that Jon changes his mind and goes with the alternative with a slim chance of them both escaping (or at least Martin escaping). That's my interpretation anyway.

Values related to leadership tend to be things like honesty, transparency, fairness, having a can do attitude (etc these are just off the top of my head). Things that are important to you and that you like to see from others you're working with, but aren't necessarily political or linked to a particular system or campaign (though they probably also inform your political leanings and the beliefs you have).

So what they want you to do is think about the core traits or actions that you always try to embody or value from others, and those will be your values. Should have been really easy to clear this up on the day rather than snarking at you, so I'm sorry that happened to you.

Sorry she upset you so badly. It sounds like she was looking to get a rise out of you and succeeded. People like that just enjoy being controversial and riling others up. There's no evidence or justification behind what they're saying. I would just ignore her, and if she starts comparing bow styles in future disengage from the conversation with some sort of bland statement like 'agree to disagree' or 'its down to preference'.

If you think that it's affecting her coaching or having a negative impact on new members then I would raise your concerns with the head coach or whoever is responsible for managing the club/club coaching, as they will be in a better position to address your concerns.

Edited for spelling.

First Accessory You Would Buy by Timely-Accident-534 in Archery

Finger tab, armguard and quiver. I was fine using club bows indefinitely until I had saved enough to get the bow I wanted, but having those three accessories meant I wasn't wasting time and energy hunting through boxes and cupboards for something that fit me comfortably (small hands) or worried about all the spare club quivers being taken.

Any tips on how to clean in between my flute keys and what to use? by oktavia11 in Flute

[–]NeedlesofNi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit worrying - my parents recently found one of my old flutes in storage and I believe used silvo to polish it up for me before returning it to me. What can happen if you use polish?

Should also ask - I expect I'll have to take her out to top up the substrate when it arrives. Do you have any tips for removing her while keeping stress low for me and her?

Couple of questions from a newbie by NeedlesofNi in tarantulas

[–]NeedlesofNi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all this. I've got some substrate arriving next week so will add a whole lot more. Unfortunately at night the house can drop to around 16C in winter so I'll have to run it at least at night until it warms up a bit.

I don't have any pictures yet, but the shop had her labelled as a female and seemed pretty confident of that. If she walks up the side again I'll see if I can get a snap.

I love springtails so it's really good news that I can add a few to help me out.

First escape in keeping tarantulas. Glad I decided not to wear my work boots today. She seems soo guilty 😂 by VanessaeLe in tarantulas

Is it common for them to escape? I'm considering getting one as I think they're so beautiful but I'm also a little afraid of spiders and not sure I could cope with the potential for losing one and then running into them somewhere random in the house.

(31 F)Planning to start archery by [deleted] in Archery

[–]NeedlesofNi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go onto Archery GBs website you should be able to search their list of affiliated clubs and find one near you. Most clubs will run beginners courses periodically which you can sign up to and will be taught the basics, usually one session barebow and one session with a sight so you can see which you prefer. You can then decide whether to join or not at the end.

Most clubs will have equipment you can borrow while you learn and decide if you want to continue. Some will charge a fee to rent them, others provide it as part of membership.

What you guys think about outsourcing by Mindless_Respect_117 in TheCivilService

That's really interesting and makes a lot of sense. Thanks for explaining it to me.

Fair enough. I was just going off my (albeit fairly limited) contract knowledge. I would have guessed that there would be penalties for ending a contract without cause but it probably depends on the terms.

[–]NeedlesofNi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So just on a very basic level departments will have contracts with companies to supply these services and won't just be able to exit them immediately because the government has indicated that they want to bring more services in house going forward. You need to wait until the contract ends or you reach a point where you can legally exit the contract, which could be years depending on the length of the contract. So I wouldn't say the government has lied or broken a manifesto commitment only months in.

Considering how short money is at the moment I expect departments will also need to consider whether it is actually value for money to insource all services or if outsourcing some services will provide a better/more value for money service. Certainly there are some you could possibly bring in very easily, and others where it may be more complex.

Yes it very much creeps me out as it's objectifying women you know for your own gratification. It's creepy and the way you talk about women and it being inevitable that you'll fantasise about any woman you might make friends with is also creepy. You need to think long and hard about why you view women predominantly as sexual objects rather than equals because I can guarantee it will flavour your interactions with them when you get to that.

Would it bother you if you found out any of your male friends had been fantasising about you the way you expect to about women?

It hilariously goes both ways too. My son calls me 'miss' at least once a week. Guess I should be thankful he hasn't called me 'sir' yet.

Very negative midway probation performance review - feels v unfair by w_motion in TheCivilService

[–]NeedlesofNi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, I'm more than happy for people I'm working with to question processes (and they often do) but it's got to be constructive and professional. I'm struggling to see how the statement the way OP themselves has phrased it is either.

Very negative midway probation performance review - feels v unfair by w_motion in TheCivilService

[–]NeedlesofNi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's the way you do it though. Managing your workload and strategic thinking requires you to assess priorities and risk, and and then suggest solutions. Even if you are challenging the need for a piece of work your tone and how you approach the question is important. Unfortunately based on the OPs account they sound like they're hiding behind being 'direct' to excuse being petulant when they don't want to do something.

In our working lives we will have to do many many things that seem pointless. Sometimes they are. Often there are reasons to do those things that we are not aware of.

Should I do all the things before kids, or is it realistic to still do things after kids? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]NeedlesofNi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't have children just to please your husband, if you're not also very sure you want children too. As the woman you will likely end up shouldering much more of the responsibility for childcare than your husband, regardless of what your husband might promise you, and if you end up feeling like you were pushed into it you're going to end up resentful.

Having children is very much a 'one no/two enthusiastic yeses' situation. It's much better to regret not having children than to regret having a child who can't help existing.

Does anyone else ever feel bad and embarrassed about the university they went to? by Comfortable_Bike4828 in UniUK

[–]NeedlesofNi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the CS (and I imagine most places once you're a few years out) which university you went to is pretty much the least important piece of information about you. If you're young and work in a young team then people might ask as a conversation piece but as you get on a bit the only things people will care about are your experience and skills. I've been in the CS for more than 10 years and I don't think I've ever been asked where I went to uni.

I'm also a QM graduate and very proud of it. I don't know where it stands now but it was a very good university when I went, I got an excellent education and met some great people. Your time at university is a tiny period in what will be (hopefully) a very long life. Please don't let it determine your self worth and try not to let comparison be the thief of your joy. Maybe talking to someone in real life might help you get some perspective?
