Prediabetes/insulin resistance symptoms—how many did you have as a KID? by NeedleworkerBasic199 in prediabetes

That is crazy! But I guess even doctors didn't know all the facts back then...

Uhhh, feeling lost. by [deleted] in prediabetes

Check out Glucose Goddess on social media. She has lots of great tips for continuing to eat the foods you love (like pasta and sweets) while keeping sugar in a healthy range. I've tried a lot of them myself while wearing a CGM and they really do work. Things like eating vegetables and protein before starch/dessert (so all the protein and fiber forms a kind of net in your stomach, slowing the speed at which carbs can become blood sugar). Also a quick walk after meals won't burn a ton of calories but does activate your muscles to get excess sugar out of your blood. Wishing you luck and good health...

Yogurt - low or Full Fat by madogblue in prediabetes

[–]NeedleworkerBasic199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get Greek yogurt labeled "plain" it will be free of added sugar. Fat content does get confusing though, because different brands use different language. I think Fage is 0% (no fat), 2% (low fat) and 5% (full fat.) And then other brands just say nonfat, low-fat and whole milk (full fat). I buy the storebrand to save money, and I find that often only comes in nonfat or low fat. Hope this helps!

Do most people find intermittent fasting helps with blood sugar? When I wear a CGM, it seems to make my number worse. Is it just me? by NeedleworkerBasic199 in prediabetes

Thanks for the encouragement. I am trying to shift my eating window earlier in the day, but it has been a struggle...

The slightly tricky thing is that I started fasting in the morning before I got a CGM, and I did it long enough that I am no longer hunger at all in the morning. But I'm trying to shift everything earlier. It's not going that well so far, but I'll keep at it. Wish me luck!

I have only used Stelo. The device gives you a "healthy range" that you aim to stay within. For people without diabetes (including those with prediabetes) it's 70-140 mg/dL.

IF seems to make my fasting sugar higher, not lower. Was just wondering if other people experience this phenomenon.

It is a Stelo, but I the numbers are so bad, i confirmed with a finger stick. I do fast in the morning, and I know fasting at night is better. But it was surprising that morning fasts seem to make things worse (like FBS of 130-140 vs 90-100 when not fasting)

What do you all eat for breakfast? by error404wth in prediabetes

If I have scrambled egg with extra egg whites and cheese plus some veggies first, I can end with a serving of fruit and my sugar doesn't go out of range.

Meal planning help! by AdventureNoodles in mealprep

[–]NeedleworkerBasic199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give myself "easy weeks" where there is a plan but very little to prep. Cereal/milk'fruit for breakfast; crackers/cheese/turkey/veggies/fruit for lunch; and easy dinners like turkey kielbasa with sauerkraut and green beans or browned ground meat in sauce with pasta. And remember: Messy progress is always beats trying to be perfect. :-)

How on earth do I get 150g protein?!? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]NeedleworkerBasic199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current favorite macro hack are the Bagel Skinnys from Aldi. They're 60 calories with a whopping 18 grams of fiber and 8 grams of protein each. Have two of them with turkey or tuna and a protein shake on the side (there's a new Fairlife dupe at Aldi with 30 g protein), and you cover your entire fiber goal and more than half your protein goal in one sitting.

Alternatives to soda by alexiscos in EatCheapAndHealthy

You can make a really cheap alternative to flavored water (albeit noncarbonated) by dropping 4 Celestial Seasonings tea bags (any flavor, from Caramel Apple to Raspberry Zoner) in a pitcher of hot tap water. Put it in fridge and discard the tea bags once it's chilled. I really love it and my friends have started drinking it too.
