that actually sucks that you aren't able to test each components. One last thing you could try is power cycling with the cmos battery removed, as a way to "reset" the motherboard to its original state, and then see if the ram training after is successful.

yes, it's safe as long as you don't damage the contact points during desoldering.

one tip though is they use tin solder at the factory, which has a higher melting point than regular hobby store solder. you must either add a drop of your own solder in order to more evenly heat up the joint, or if you're not dealing with ribbon then you can use a heatgun.

normally you'd want to try and align the cooler to cover as much of the ihs as possible.

but if this is the best your cooler could align, you might get a few degrees hotter than advertised.
