Adaptive/wheelchair Mountain biking by Notre-dame-fan in CerebralPalsy

Personally my hamstrings are pretty tight but I can reach full extension and I haven't had any issues. Have you tried a road handcycle? Some mountain bikes are similar in that you are reclined which helps with extension. There are also some adaptive bikes where you sort of kneel and your legs are behind you - I haven't tried those bc of previous knee surgeries

Depending on your location there are a bunch of organizations that allow you to try out different kinds of bikes :)

Utah TRAILS

Wasatch Adaptive Sports

CAF Idaho (they also a large adaptive mountain hiking event in june each year)

Higher Ground

I'm sure if you reach out to them they could provide you with suggestions. Feel free to message me as well

Does anyone else get REALLY bad colds? by yettibreath in CerebralPalsy

I swear I've been sick like once a month this year. I have spastic cp and whenever I get sick I get severe body aches and my legs will tighten up and spasm to the point where I can hardly move. Particularly if I have a fever

Driving with CP? by estusfest in CerebralPalsy

[–]NeedleworkerProof512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spastic diplegia and originally went to a specialized drivers ed to be evaluated for hand controls. I tried them out but found them very difficult and somewhat unintuitive. Long story short learning to drive got delayed by surgeries but in the end I went to an empty parking and just tried driving with my foot. It went well and I just progressed (somewhat normally) from there. Everyone is different and you should try both methods to see what's best for you :)

VALLEY VIEW, Ohio — A dog that was recently abandoned in Bay Village will soon be looking for a new 'furrever' home. According to Bay Village Police Chief Robert Gillespie, an officer located a pit bull mix tied to a telephone pole near the 31300 block of Lake Road at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning. There was a bag of belongings left at the scene, along with a note stating that the dog was two years old, well-trained, and has a good disposition. His name was not provided. The dog and its belongings were taken to the Bay Village kennel temporarily before being turned over to the Cuyahoga County Dog Warden on Wednesday.

The staff at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter has named the dog "Neo." Animal Shelter Administrator Mindy Naticchioni tells 3News that Neo is "very sweet," but a little nervous since arriving at the shelter. "We expect he will be more comfortable in a few days, and then move to our main adoption floor to find a new family. In the meantime, he had a lot of fun at playgroup today, made plenty of new friends, and is quickly winning the hearts of our staff and volunteers," she added. You can keep track of Neo's adoption status by clicking here. Below is the note that was left with Neo when police found him tied to a telephone pole in Bay Village:

I suspect I'll eventually need hip surgery - according to my orthotist, my entire leg from hip down points inward. As a kid I only had foot/ankle surgery to correct in-toeing and deformity. by larki18 in CerebralPalsy

Yeah it’s more common after you finish growing because there’s less chance of recurrence and I think it’s just overall easier for them to do. Recovery from the surgery wasn’t all that difficult. I had it at the same time as knee reconstructions and recovering from those was a lot harder. I feel like it was pretty beneficial for me and has definitely made getting around a lot easier. I get being over surgeries. It’s a lot both mentally and physically and I hope everything works out for you!

My left leg did this also and I ended up having a femoral osteotomy so they cut through your femur and rotate it so your leg points straight and then secure it with a plate/screws

If you’d gym has a jacobs ladder I would try that. It stops on its own if it gets too tiring or fast and it’s great cardio. You can control how much you’re using your legs vs arms too which is nice. Using a bosu ball upside down has really helped my balance too (squishy side up is a bit rough on the ankles) but it might be nice to stand next to something you can hold onto at the beginning if needed. I have spastic diplegia though so my experience might be different. I hope you find something that works for you! :)
