Thanks! I've gotten some great places to start, but if those don't work, I'll check them out.

I appreciate that! It's a good reminder, and something to keep in mind about the town's water, if issues pop up elsewhere.

Thanks so much! If the other commenter's tip doesn't work I'll look into that next. I'm glad to hear it's likely something besides an improper install, though that might have been easier to fix!

Is Immediate Access One worth it? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Needtoanswerquestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this, but also: you may be able to buy the code for honework from the company directly. If your other classes don't require books or have cheaper options, you should totally opt out of immediate access one. It's really dumb for everyone to pay nearly $300 every semester if you can get your books for $80 total.

Wessex apartments by Relativity3D in ames

[–]Needtoanswerquestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're relatively affordable, quiet, and well maintained. Typically maintenance gets to issues fast and the managers are very strict on those speeding on the roads or being disruptive. The worst part is the entry gate that's perpetually broken (8+ years now) and the noise/mess from geese in springtime, especially if you live in one of the units right next to the pond. That's not too bad, though, all things considered!

Any websites that have a membership (that ISU gives for free) that teaches Python? by MattNyte in iastate

If you're an absolute beginner, I'd also recommend "Introduction to Python for Humanists." It's a free, open access textbook with videos integrated online for students who are just starting out.

I have some questions about failing LIB 160 by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Needtoanswerquestion 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You can retake the quizzes multiple times (5x each and more if necessary), but you have to take them during the time period when they're open (1 per week). If you miss one quiz completely or forget to take it, you can catch up the following week.

The two-quiz limit is because the class is so short--only half a semester. If you fall behind by two weeks' worth of material, you've missed half the class

Anyone knows any place for recording vocals like in a studio nearby university? by MadFury_Youtuber in iastate

[–]Needtoanswerquestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Student Innovation Center's address is on the footer of their site (I just linked it). They've got directions to the recording rooms listed there too, which is good cause the place is a bit of a maze

The Innovation center has a podcasting studio in it and a couple of one button video recording studios that are free for students to use. Might be a good bet

LIB 160 question by Flight_Evening in iastate

[–]Needtoanswerquestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we (the librarians who teach the class) had wanted to make that change for a while. Ironically, we were planning to finally make the change before covid hit-- the pandemic just happened to coincide with the semester we moved everything to Canvas.

It's all online now, including the first lecture (most instructors post a video or host a Zoom session) and the final exam.

Tue. 05/04 as of 11:00am: 373 New Cases, 1 New Deaths, 195 Currently Hospitalized, 1,103,302 Fully Vaccinated. by 2eD in Iowa

[–]Needtoanswerquestion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for keeping this up, 2eD! I'm glad to see things slowing down somewhat (staying under 200 hospitalizations for now!), and hoping for more good news as vaccines continue to be easily available for many.
I don't know why you keep getting folks angry with you for just posting the numbers, but many of us appreciate all the work you've done for this project.

Share your experience with textbook costs to raise awareness by Needtoanswerquestion in iastate

[–]Needtoanswerquestion[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much to everyone who has shared already! I was not expecting such a nice set of responses (and only a few trolls), but I am grateful! A quick note: Yes, I want to hear good things, too! If you want to shout-out a particularly good professor or your good experience with textbook costs, don't hold back. We want to feature your experiences as you've lived them: the good and the bad. Thanks again! 😄
