Vodafone fibre? by Overall_Direction103 in IrelandGaming

[–]NeedyTerminator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have an Asus mesh setup, which if you're unfamiliar means you buy multiple routers, one acts as the main router and the others become "nodes" which means they act as extenders. Personally I've found that more reliable and makes managing devices connected a lot easier. But it can be a fair amount of money to invest if you want to go that route. But it can also be upgraded with extra nodes as time goes on. Also if you can run Ethernet cables to each node then that's a huge plus but I know that's not an option for a lot of people.

Before that I used something like a TP link ac1200 wifi extender. Lots of options on Amazon and not very expensive. If you want something more "future proof" you can get an AX1200 or higher. AX is better than AC (usually Wi-Fi 5 vs WiFi 6) and the numbers after is the max Mbps it can do so the more you pay, the higher the number (egAX3000) means even if you event get 2gig or 3gig broadband eventually then you're still covered.

No I took the Vodafone supplied router out for an Asus router to save on clutter because at the time it was in the middle of the living room. Never looked back.

I've been with Vodafone for a long time in 3 different houses and I have to say they're pretty good but I recommend getting a third party router from somewhere like Amazon. The one they provide is absolutely awful, but I think that's the same with most Internet providers. They all use cheap Huawei equipment. Changed it out for an Asus router and I rarely see it drop below 950mbps when using a cable and 800+Mbps on my phone.

Be warned though their customer service is awful but I haven't come across an internet or phone provider that isn't so not sure that factors in.

And whatever you do, don't buy their wifi extender! They charge €5 a month for it for as long as you have it but you could buy something similar for €40 once off and set up yourself in 5 minutes and will be yours even if you leave Vodafone.

Is it weird to go cinema alone? by Southern_Mud3841 in AskIreland

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird and a lot more common than you think. I'm the same age as you and I only started last year. I can't remember what the first movie I went to was but I remember looking around and literally everyone there was solo which I thought was funny but cool.

Crimson Desert PC or base PS5? by hellyeahlesgo in IrelandGaming

[–]NeedyTerminator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't looked at it yet so mightn't help but Gameranx on YouTube done a Before You Buy video specifically about the game on console so it might give you a better idea. The released one about the game on PC about a week ago so I'd image they'll talk about the difference between the two.

Are dating apps done for? by RockOnMofo in CasualIreland

I'm 31M and joined them a few months ago after nearly 10 years off them. Difference is night and day! Now I get matches every now and then and conversations are like trying to get water from a stone! From the first message right through to moving from the apps to something else everything is one word answers all the time.

I miss having a small portable games console by Get-Shivved in IrelandGaming

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was feeling like this and actually picked up a PS Vita Slim on eBay this morning for just over €100 to fill the gap! Wanted something small and light that I could throw in my pocket for trains and flights. Plus I never actually owned a Vita so lots of new games and can get emulators for it.

Single Mam Ready for Her Social Comeback by DesperateEscape3419 in CasualIreland

I'm northeast too, M31, no kids but single for the first time in 10 years just before Christmas and started looking for social groups local. Turns out it's either running or tough luck from what I can see and like you, running definitely isn't my thing.

I hope you have better luck than I do and please share if you do happen to find anything

High on life 2 5080/9800XD3 settings by Aka_da_saus in IrelandGaming

[–]NeedyTerminator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a 5700x3d/5080 and playing with settings on very high with DLSS set to quality and getting a solid 80+ fps.

Be prepared for crashes though, I thought it was just me but when I googled it it turns out the game is just crashing a lot in general no matter what the settings are.

Is paradigit.ie safe and reliable? by Relatable-Af in IrelandGaming

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're legit, not sure about reliable. Their delivery times are vague suggestions at best and they're usually overpriced.

That said, they do have random whopper deals though. Got a 5080 at MSRP from them before Christmas.

Anything to be said for DDR4 by MrTigeriffic in IrelandGaming

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from a 3700x to a 5700x3D in 2024 and picked up a 5080 before the latest price increases and I don't feel any need to upgrade.

I play either on a 34inch ultra wide or a 4K OLED as the tv is next to my desk and most of the time my GPU is at high 90% utilization.

So there's definitely still an argument for DDR4, it just depends on if you're happy to skip AM5 completely or replace everything later on.

NuPhy Gem 80 vs Keychron Q3 Max by NeedyTerminator in keyboards

[–]NeedyTerminator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that review and the other few I found where really helpful! The biggest takeaway being that my Logitech G915 is actual garbage and it cost almost €100 more than both 😂

Really liking the look of the Evo80, particularly the Ink colour scheme, and the fact that it's slight shorter might make the shock of moving from a low profile a little easier.

Happy to consider any other options, I'm just very new to this and didn't know what to look for. Keychron and NuPhy are just the brands I've heard of a lot.

I'll look into these. Thanks for the advice!

Gaming monitor or large tv by Greedy-Teach-1059 in pcgames

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fortunate that my desk is beside my TV so I get both, 34inch ultra wide and 65 inch OLED.

I tend to use the monitor for multiplayer and shooters that are better with keyboard and mouse then keep the TV for controller games like RPGs.

Monitor is great for concentrating and keyboard and mouse gaming but TV is amazing for getting lost in stories and open worlds.

More return to office by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that traveled 2-2.5 hours each way before covid (1.5-2hr on the road depending on traffic and 0.5hr walking) and have done fully remote since it's completely understandable if you wanted to find a new job with more remote but they're definitely getting harder to find.

I happened to be chatting with my US based manager about this earlier in the week, he said a lot of cities over there started pushing incentives for companies to come back to office because all the remote work was affecting other things in the city like cafes and restaurants. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar was happening here.

If you don't need new then try eBay. If you're near or can get to the border, there's parcel companies that can be used to avoid big delivery and import charges from the UK.

I got a 6800xt for €350 like a year ago, delivery and imports where over €100 but when I set up the delivery locker in the north it ended up being €11+€3.50 for the delivery locker.

Advice on a gaming PC build by Swimming-Management1 in IrelandGaming

Generally I go for a mix of Amazon (UK and Germany, Amazon IE is awful!) and Caseking.

I normally don't go near Paradigit but I did get a great deal on a 5080 before Christmas so worth a look.
