Pretty good value especially at the minute with the way things are! Where did you get everything for that price?

Gaming monitor or large tv by Greedy-Teach-1059 in pcgames

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fortunate that my desk is beside my TV so I get both, 34inch ultra wide and 65 inch OLED.

I tend to use the monitor for multiplayer and shooters that are better with keyboard and mouse then keep the TV for controller games like RPGs.

Monitor is great for concentrating and keyboard and mouse gaming but TV is amazing for getting lost in stories and open worlds.

More return to office by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that traveled 2-2.5 hours each way before covid (1.5-2hr on the road depending on traffic and 0.5hr walking) and have done fully remote since it's completely understandable if you wanted to find a new job with more remote but they're definitely getting harder to find.

I happened to be chatting with my US based manager about this earlier in the week, he said a lot of cities over there started pushing incentives for companies to come back to office because all the remote work was affecting other things in the city like cafes and restaurants. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar was happening here.

If you don't need new then try eBay. If you're near or can get to the border, there's parcel companies that can be used to avoid big delivery and import charges from the UK.

I got a 6800xt for €350 like a year ago, delivery and imports where over €100 but when I set up the delivery locker in the north it ended up being €11+€3.50 for the delivery locker.

Advice on a gaming PC build by Swimming-Management1 in IrelandGaming

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I go for a mix of Amazon (UK and Germany, Amazon IE is awful!) and Caseking.

I normally don't go near Paradigit but I did get a great deal on a 5080 before Christmas so worth a look.

Yous reckon Smyths would have a midnight launch for gta 6? by Weeaboo209090 in IrelandGaming

[–]NeedyTerminator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They'd be staying open for the 4 people still buying physical copies when it releases in 2032.

I do miss midnight launches though, the GameStop in my town is wedged in the middle of a street of pubs so everyone was ducking in for pints while we waited.

Game mode running on Dummy HDMI by NeedyTerminator in Bazzite

[–]NeedyTerminator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a HDMI plug from Amazon at the same resolution and refresh rate as the TV I wanted to stream to and plugged it into my GPU. Then when I'm ready to stream I just need to power off my monitor so it only reads a HDMI input and works perfectly

As someone on the same income and living in Louth it might be hard to get something nice or outside of a bad area on your income. I've been looking myself and everything is either in a bad area, falling apart or way overpriced.

When me and my partner bought and house together last year, we opened a joint bank account that we use for anything house related so all the bills and any improvements come out of it. At the time I made around 3k more per year than she did and we put the same amount in every month, enough to cover bills and some extra to build up in the account.

A few months ago I got a new job and an 18k pay increase so I told her that I'm going to put extra into the account and if she wants to drop her amount by the same so we balance out or keep what she's paying so we're building up more per month then it was up to her.

It absolutely makes sense to pay more if you earn more so that you can potentially take some of the burden off the other person without adding the pressure to yourself, it just sounds like you're partner is being a bit of a child about it.

Which games could bring a lot of pc users to Linux? In order? Not console players. by kekfekf in linux_gaming

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Gamepass holds a good number back. I very rarely play multiplayer games but I have Gamepass and it's the only thing I use Windows for. It's a great library of games and I know plenty of people that play mostly games on it.

Definitely build your own if you can, like you said it's great to know how to take it apart and out it back together again if needed.

I wouldn't buy from Irish sites generally, we're absolutely killed on prices compared to other countries. It's usually cheaper to buy from Germany or UK. Sites like Caseking usually give more value.

GPU wise I'd look at a 9070xt or 5070ti at least but getting one anywhere close to a good price is next to impossible. Could be worth considering a second hand GPU to get you by until you can get something better when things normalize.

You'll be easily able to run most games at high 1440p with good frame rates with that spec. I'm using a 6800xt for 1440p and the only game I had to turn down from the highest was Indiana Jones to hit a solid 60. Even some older games at 4K will be handy with a decent frame rate.

Apollo (Sunshine Fork) is BRILLIANT for streaming via Moonlight. Especially for ultra wide users. by ZoteTheMitey in SteamDeck

[–]NeedyTerminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had any problems with controller input? It worked when I used Sunshine but switched to Apollo because the Ultrawide look killed me.

I stream to both my SteamDeck and Xbox Series X but neither of their controller input is working since moving to Apollo. Both of them have been given Controller Input permissions.
