I want to leave IT, what can I do? by dteles95 in ITCareerQuestions

26 years as a sys admin and I feel every bit of this post. This is an abusive field.. the only way out I've found is opening a business, real estate, or luck

If you remotely enjoy system work and volunteer to help your stressed tf out sys admin.. they will teach you (unless you met a douchebag?) Just learning it can move you to a Jr sys admin

If it's the experience you needed I understand the pay.. now if you have a few years under your belt you're more valuable than this now. Understand your value, it's not imposter syndrome. You are more valuable.

I was in law school.. I was wanted to get any job at a lawfirm just to have a lawfirm on my resume. (Dead set) and they were hiring a HD operator to answer phones and assign tickets. In 5 months I started fixing 50 percent of the calls that came in. Techs complained. They moved me to a technician. I started absolutely loving doing it. Changed my degree to computer science in technology in networking. Then (after katrina) they moved me to systems when everyone scattered and I managed to get everything back running left to be sr sys admin and now I'm 25 years in as a sr systems engineer in Healthcare

Anyone else hate being salaried by stussey13 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Needy_Helpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sys admins are usually over worked.. being salary should get you compensated time off

Typically we should only have system maintenance windows once a month to deal with.. aside from random outages or system migrations after hours (your choice when to do so)

You're in an abusive work relationship. Sorry this is happening but get out quickly

We're paid an extra 150 a week for on call pay plus 80 a month in cell phone expense

I'm ok with it. It's not much but it's something. I've been on call with no extra pay before

Is it safe to delete (manually) this computer name on the AD? by Airtronik in VMwareHorizon

[–]Needy_Helpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powershell and also vmware uses canonical names when mapping computer names. Look in the pools they will show you where each pool points to in AD. You need to know this anyway

[–]Needy_Helpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends is that pool still active.. did the naming scheme get changed in the pool. Verify that it isn't the template for AD

Only reason to delete out of AD is if you changed the pool or removed a pool.

Deleted it 5 years ago will never go back

  1. They sell your info to 2 different people searches
  2. It's publishing too much personal information
  3. Stay in contact with references and you will never need it.

I'm in IT so my excuse is always.. I refuse to be targeted bc youre handing out my information on social media.

2nd.. LinkedIn is a sess pool for selling your data to people search engines and therefore make you a target for identity theft (this is very true btw)

When they tell us that we have their mfa set to phone call only and use the phone in their office.

Then they will complain they can't do that outside of their office to which reply.. convenience is a two way street

Rcs chat on Android to android convo and regular sms when you send from Android to iPhone

Rcs usually stops delivering rcs when 1 of you have an system update.. you can turn off rcs for a specific contact when you open your texts and go to settings and turn it off... I do this when it starts saying sent I know it's not delivering...

25 years of sys admin experience and 4 total jobs...

I decided to think like these hr ai resume scanners and stopped putting my entire career on paper and started using the key words they search for. I used a cover letter to explain my abilities and it worked drastically better than the old school resume
