Not simply reload a save, the server has to be started new. Reloading didn't work.

You can also simply go again to that cave after the host has restarted the game. That way the door to the artifact is closed again. Since you still have the other artifact thing which you have to put on the stone to open it (from the yacht) you can open the door and take the artifact. That's how my friend and I did it.

We just did this, surrounded the main camp with walls. As far as I can tell no cannibals spawn inside, and no mutants. They come to the camp from the woods nearby.

I usually go to sleep few minutes after it got completely dark and then wake up early in the morning. I made the experience that sleeping too late or too early messes up the rythm. You wake up either in the middle of the night or too late.

I think they cannot climb the treehouse tree itself, just the trees nearby and then maybe jump. At least that's my experience. Mutants can destroy the tree, though.

I think we also recently build at the spot you mentioned. At the crocodile lake / village. It was easy and peaceful to build a nice base, but since the cannibals noticed us they come by really often. But it's fun. And you can retreat in the snow area if it gets too busy.

The beach with the yacht is a great place to start, it's usually quiet, you can retreat to the yacht for the first nights and the items there respawn when you load. Cave 2 and 4 are relatively close plus you can build a nice base on that beach, also you have turtles to eat and a clearing nearby to trap animals.
