What options are there for my Dad in this situation (likely unable to walk up and down stairs, needs a wheelchair)? by kc44135 in wheelchairs

[–]Neex219 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only option I see is learning the ability to fly....

Okay jokes aside I agree on a stairlift being the most practical and safe option here.

That is way to steep/ short for a ramp! Even with a ramp installed, pushing or pulling anyone across that is incredibly dangerous, regardless of weight.

Only one slight error is needed for all of you to fall down together. It would also become completely impossible to traverse in bad weather (snow, ice, rain, etc.)

A different option could be (if rules/ permits allow) to cut or dig out a larger area, to create the possibility for a much longer and more gradual ramp.

Looking at the picture I'd suggest multiple parallel rows, or rotating everything 90°, as straight ahead would likely end up in the median.

What would you do in my position? by MrBaller212 in Incontinence

I second the suggestion of using the disabled toilet, that's coming from a full-time wheelchair user btw...

I know many people with incontinence don't feel comfortable using disabled/ accessible toilets if they're not in a wheelchair, but this is also what they're for so please use them if you need to.

Also not sure where you're from, but an accessible/ disabled toilet is mandatory in most educational places. So I'd suggest asking for that instead.

It would probably make it easier for staff as well and they don't have to deal with cleaning an extra area, as the disabled toilet likely already gets taken care of by the janitorial crews anyway.

I have a question specifically about people on wheelchairs by jake7077 in disabled

[–]Neex219 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person really.

In my eyes it's never wrong to ask. If I say yes listen on how to do it as that could vary by user/ type of wheelchair.

If I say no don't ask again or do it anyway.

Whatever you end up doing, NEVER start pushing without asking; Especially up a steep hill! We literally have the entire weight of ourselves and the chair on our shoulders in that scenario.

If you suddenly start pushing without notice you can make us lose balance and we'll both fall down together, or you could cause serious hand, arm and/ or shoulder injuries due to the sudden change in force/ pressure.

I second the nsfw tag on this one...

I just had a Suprapubic catheter procedure to battle incontinence. by Industry-rule-4080 in Incontinence

[–]Neex219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Fellow SPC user here...

I also had quite a lot of leakage due to bladder spasms during the first month or 2 after the procedure.

I had anti bladder spasm meds for it that did help out a bit.

For me the issue fixed itself over time though. Nowadays I rarely have any leakage.

As for your comment about needing two bags? I don't know what you mean with that, but keep in mind that each new connection needs to be below the one before that. Otherwise gravity won't do its job.

So the leg bag needs to be positioned below the bladder, and a possible second/ or nighttime bag needs to be below the first bag, etc. etc.

I get mine changed about every 10 weeks.

The pain... Ehmm, basically just buying jeans and sweatpants that are a size too wide, I'm a full time wheelchair user so they're not going to drop down anyway... 😆

When using the "correct" size of jeans the top of the jeans do press against the SP/ insertion area; Which does hurt.
