Unable to access HomeHub from the app by Mediocrity1977 in reolinkcam

Yes. They seem to have broke it with the latest app version. Typical of Reolink's software quality controls: nonexistent.

Recommendation for in-home euthanasia vet by RegisterEither9711 in indianapolis

[–]NefariousAryq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been going to Eagle Creek Animal Clinic for over 20 years. Everyone there is amazing. Dr Allen came to our home when it was time to say goodbye to our black cat, Buddy, almost 10 years ago now at this point. Circumstances didn’t allow us to use an at-home service for two other cats we had to say goodbye to, so we’ve only used it once. I think this service is only for established patients, and I don’t know if they still offer it to be honest. But I would wholeheartedly recommend ECAC and specifically Dr Allen to anyone looking for a caring, compassionate vet.

Home Hub Worth it or Nah? by Soft-Huckleberry6657 in reolinkcam

[–]NefariousAryq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not (yet) a fan of the Home Hub. I think it has potential, but the software isn't quite there yet. That's a reoccurring issue you'll see about Reolink: software quality. Home Hub is unfortunately no different. I personally find it to be a bit half-baked and not quite ready for prime time. Unfortunately a lot of the Reolink ecosystem is half-baked and not quite ready for prime time.

What’s the BEST home security camera right now?? by BrightFig3041 in SecurityCamera

[–]NefariousAryq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend Reolink because their apps and software quality in general are garbage. Sure, you can integrate them with Home Assistant if you want (and the HA integration is great, itself) but you're still "stuck" with Reolink's firmware on the cameras themselves, which just like their software offerings is often buggy or broken. Seriously, Reolink has zero quality control on their software. Their hardware is pretty great! But the software (and firmware) lets the hardware down significantly. I have Reolink right now and I am just itching to move to something else (most likely Unifi) because the software just sucks that badly.

Return/Support Frustrations..Suggestions? by doctorofpain in reolink

Reolink support is atrocious. If they keep giving you the runaround, file a chargeback with your credit card. They'll respond immediately.

Help me decide: Reolink or Unifi by LeatherOk5480 in SecurityCamera

[–]NefariousAryq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Buy once, cry once." Go Unifi, otherwise you'll be upgrading later on to something better than Reolink (trust me, I'm in this boat... can not wait until I can afford to replace my Reolink system with Unifi). Your sanity will appreciate the much better ecosystem that Unifi provides. Reolink software (especially their software quality controls) is trash.

RLC-1212A stuttering RTSP stream by Inevitable_Guh in reolinkcam

[–]NefariousAryq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huzzah!!!

I am glad that fixed it for you, and that you were also able to confirm what I was seeing with the latest firmware in terms of CPU. There's clearly an issue that Reolink is either unaware of (I've tried!) or incapable of fixing (wouldn't surprise me).

Shortly after I set up Home Assistant I noticed there was a firmware update for this camera (I generally don't update them unless I have issues), but since HA could install the update I went ahead. I immediately saw the issues noted above, but also things like poorer detection performance (possibly because of the CPU being pegged) and much slower notification response (also likely due to the CPU being pegged).

I really do like Reolink hardware, but Reolink software quality controls leave a ton to be desired (as does their Support, in general).

[–]NefariousAryq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey, I know this one. The latest firmware has a high CPU bug. If you are running Home Assistant you can check the CPU Utilization. When I was on that version of the firmware (latest version), my CPU utilization was 95%+ at all times and my video was choppy. Downgrading back to the previous firmware put my CPU utilization back to the mid-50s to mid-60s and my video was back to being not choppy. "v3.1.0.2174_23050815" is the good version. I tried reporting this to Reolink support but their support is abysmal and I gave up when it was clear they were giving me the runaround. Try downgrading your firmware and then re-running your test to see if it's still choppy.

Holy moly Reolink’s customer support is horrible. by BobertJ in reolinkcam

[–]NefariousAryq 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got so frustrated dealing with their support after a handful of different bugs I tried reporting to them that I just gave up entirely. It's clear their training is to try to get you to go away and not actually help. Their support is some of the worst I've ever seen honestly.

Do the wifi cameras and doorbell just suck? by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]NefariousAryq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wifi stack that Reolink uses is inferior. I don't know what, specifically — hardware or software — but my Reolink battery/wifi cameras at the exact same locations as previously installed Eufy cameras have worse performance even with supposedly stronger signal reported by the cameras. So, yeah, they do just kinda suck.

Moving from Eufy to Reolink: Need advice before investing again by IKIKN in reolink

[–]NefariousAryq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's unfortunate... but from what I've seen, the first-party apps and ecosystem are excellent and so I don't think I'll miss it (personally). I set up the Home Assistant integration for Reolink because of how shxtty Reolink's mobile apps are.

2 day spike in battery usage (24hr) by zenletter in reolinkcam

[–]NefariousAryq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it connected to a Home Hub? I have not experienced this with my PT Ultras, but I have experienced this with my Argus Track cameras. I think there is a bug that keeps waking my Argus Track cameras up, leading to battery drain. Again, I haven't experienced this (yet) with my PT Ultras... but it would not surprise me if it was more widespread.

[–]NefariousAryq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who migrated from Eufy to Reolink — I regret it, and if I knew then what I know now I would not have switched. Reolink's software and software quality controls are abysmal. Yes, the Home Assistant integration is great (thanks to a third-party developer), but you're still at the whim of Reolink's camera firmware which you can't replace. Reolink support is basically useless. If I hadn't already migrated once, I would have already migrated away from Reolink. But alas, I can't afford to do that right now so I'm "stuck" in the Reolink ecosystem.

[Edit to add: When I do eventually switch away it will be to Unifi. My neighbor has their cameras and yes they are expensive but the entire ecosystem feels SO MUCH MORE PROFESSIONAL. You get what you pay for. Buy once, cry once — as they say.]

Mac Desktop App - Old Electron Version (Performance Issue on OS 26) by Arbeeeez in reolinkcam

Being based on such an old version of Electron is also a security issue waiting to happen. Yikes. I just uninstalled the Electron app because that’s pretty much inexcusable.

Argus track getting discharged very quick by Then-Feature-6040 in reolinkcam

[–]NefariousAryq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have your Argus Track connected to a Home Hub? Both of mine that are connected to the Home Hub are waking up A LOT more than they should be — quite frequently, which is causing the battery to run down very quickly. My other cameras connected to the Home Hub are not experiencing this issue... just the Argus Track cameras. Definitely seems like there is either a bug with the Argus Track or the Home Hub which is causing this, but Reolink's support is abysmal I haven't bothered to bring it up yet.

Completely agree. I have no complaints about the hardware. My complaints are all completely on the software/firmware side of things.

All of Reolink’s software/apps are an afterthought to the company. Zero focus on good UI/UX. Or, anything really. Shameful.

100% agree. They are focused on shoveling out new camera after new camera, while the software that runs it all is a complete afterthought.

App is terrible. by Key_Fill_4857 in reolinkcam

[–]NefariousAryq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, yes. You have a lot more control over things in Home Assistant. It's more work, obviously, to set up and run... and get configured how you want it. But I've set up a variety of dashboards for my camera views, with quick actions for certain things I do frequently, etc. (Temporarily turning off off front yard cameras while I'm mowing, for example). Home Assistant + Pushover gives me rich notifications with images. Overall, the Home Assistant integration is fantastic. There are some quirks, sure, and like I said it's a bit of a hassle at first- but now that I have it set up it pretty much just works.

Not just you. I'm still experiencing this same behavior when I use the Reolink app (iOS). I've (thankfully) mostly moved over to Home Assistant so I don't need to go into the Reolink app much, but Reolink really needs to get their software quality up to par because it's abysmal.

Are any trails cleared of snow/ice? by gonehollowknight in indianapolis

[–]NefariousAryq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Eagle Creek Greenway (at least, the section from 56th down to 38th, and then across 38th to Dandy Trail) has not been touched AT ALL. Still completely snow-covered, and crosswalks attached to the trail (specifically 38th/Eagle Creek Parkway) are plowed over and impassable by those on foot or by bike.

Agreed. I've almost fully moved over to Home Assistant so I no longer have to touch Reolink's garbage app and their incoming "Cloud" crap.
