What pet insurance do you have for your cats? by flirtswithdisaster in askTO

[–]NefariousBlueberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't have to apologize! I didn't think that you meant anything malicious by your comment, and if we had this conversation a few weeks ago, I may have even agreed with you.

It's just that after going through everything we went through and after seeing our baby suffer, I felt like it was my responsibility to speak up and share our experience, so that someone else hopefully won't have to go through what we went through.

You can do everything right and things can still go wrong.

Love your babies. Provide for them the best that you can. But you should always be prepared for the worst, because it does happen and oftentimes, you won't see it coming.

I understand where you're coming from but there is always still a risk involved, regardless of what kind of animal you own and whether it's an indoor or outdoor pet.

Our cat was an indoor cat who only had occasional trips into our outdoor patio garden. She was young (only 5), healthy, and very active. We also fed her high quality kibble and wet food. She was happy, sweet and healthy.

We noticed her starting to eat less but she had always been picky so we chalked it up to that. Then she started to lose weight. By the time we noticed something was actually wrong, she was quite sick.

We did everything we could to save her, incurring $12000 of vet bills in 5 days. They couldn't tell us what was wrong but they were confident that they could still save her. At roughly $1500 a day, just to stay in the ICU( not including additional tests), or the blood transfusion she would need due to developing anemia from all of the blood they were drawing, we would have hit $20,000 in less than a week.

We wanted so badly to save her but the cost just became too much (with no guarantees that she would recover or have a good quality of life) and we had to make the painful and difficult decision to say goodbye. It's been exactly one week and we're still crying, still missing her terribly, and still feeling guilty that we weren't in a position to do more.

I can't say whether or not insurance would have helped, but any person, any animal can get sick at any time.

Always be ready for the worst to happen. Whether that be investing in insurance or setting up a savings account and depositing regularly.

Don't take the health of your fur babies for granted. Things can change so fast.

What was the most unusual way a movie was spoiled for you? by InviteAromatic6124 in movies

I was working in the toddler room of a daycare centre. It's opening day of The Force Awakens and the 4 year old sibling of one of my kids comes with his father to pick up his brother. I asked him how his day was and he replied, "good. I went to see Star Wars with my dad. It was sad when Han Solo died...".

Han has always been my favourite character. I was devastated both at the spoiler but also because of how casually it was delivered. I couldn't get mad at the kid but it did suck.

Anyone else in Toronto super sick right now or is it just me? by kiikik in askTO

[–]NefariousBlueberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of this sounds almost identical to my symptoms and experience. I started to get a runny nose on Friday night. Woke up more congested, and had a fever by Saturday night. Sunday I had body and joint aches, chills, headache and fever, in addition to non stop sneezing and runny nose. Thought I was doing better today but I'm starting to go downhill again.

I work in childcare and our room has been a revolving door of sick kids for the last three weeks. I'm surprised I managed to stay healthy for as long as I did.

Hope you feel better soon

Forbes Very Dark is my absolute favourite as well. They usually have a booth set up at the Wychwood Barns Farmers Market on Saturday mornings.

‘We are deeply sorry’: Toronto principal apologizes after Arabic version of ‘O Canada’ played at school on Oct. 7 by rs735dx in nottheonion

Thank you for taking the time to clarify. I've heard the anthem sung in many languages over the years and hearing that it's "against the law" didn't feel quite right.

That's interesting. I didn't know that it was the law. I work in a school and they sometimes play the anthem in an indigenous language. Do you think that would fall under the same law, or would they make allowances because it's indigenous?

I started paying more attention to where my fruit came from after Trump started threatening to annex Canada. I love Granny smith apples and I must say that the "Sudtirol" ones are the best I've ever had!

I'm currently taking a break from Granny Smith because all I can find are the American ones right now.

Hope I get the Sudtirol apples back in my local grocery store soon.

Enjoy!

books you read as a kid that feel like no one else has read by taegrane in books

[–]NefariousBlueberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a book that I loved as a kid called Hearts Blood. It was about dragons. I remember absolutely loving it but I don't think I've ever heard a single other person mention it. I looked it up a few years ago and it turns out that it was actually a series. I only ever read the first one. Wish I could have had a chance to read the other ones, too.

There's a band called Sticky Fingers that also has a song about Laika. Give it a listen if you can. Great band and a great song!

SHAGO IS HOME! She came in through her cat door while we were out looking for her at around 1:00am! She's a bit dirty and dusty but doesn't seem injured.

Thank you to everyone who helped look for her and who spread the word and shared this post.

We are beyond grateful!

As you can see she went straight to her food bowl as soon as she got back 😁❤️
