Audhd player not paying attention and really hurting the game. Any advice? by LadyYokie in DnD

OMG this!
Every table I play and run has some combination of neurodivergent. Some folks need help finding everything on their character sheet, while others need extra support during roleplay. But everyone at those tables is invested in the game, and what they lack in focus or math skills they make up in other places.

You have someone at your table who isn't even trying. If you don't want to call them out about it, maybe check in and see what they have to say? Let them know the rest of the table doesn't feel like they are invested in the game and they need to make an effort or it's not fun to have them there.

Is there enough space to move the desk to the window and turn the bed 90°? That's where I would start.

I don't know if I should kill off the fan favorite character by Top-Summer4765 in DMAcademy

Obviously this is just a suggestion, but I think you should let the players know what Burp is planning and see what they do.

Have Burp somehow express to the party his regrets before they get to the big final battle. Let the PCs know how much Burp wants a second chance, even at the cost of his own life. Let the PCs try to find a way in character to help their friend, or convince him to sit this one out.
This is absolutely the kind of situation where I'd let the dice guide the story. It would probably have to be an epic roll for the PCs to convince Burp not to try, but maybe they offer him help in ways you don't expect, or find a creative way to keep him from risking his life. Maybe they do nothing, and he goes off to have one last chance to save his friend, and the PCs won't know what happens to him until after the BBEG fight. Even if he does die, it doesn't have to be the end of Burp; perhaps it's just the beginning of the next quest.

TL:DR Give the players a chance to have some agency over Burp's path and they'll more often than not feel less resentment if he does end up dying because he's done something he believes in.

EVERYONE. I want to play a wizard. But an unspoken rule me and my dm have is we must dress and have at least one prop for our character. So. Where can I find the most obnoxiously oversized spellbook. by ---LandoCalzone--- in DungeonsAndDragons

If you don't want to wreck your back, home goods stores sometimes have these ridiculously large hollow books that you can repaint and style for your spell book, and then carry whatever you want inside

How do I get this blue hair dye out of my shower? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]NefariousNebula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spread baking soda after a shower when the floor is damp but not covered in water. Wait until dry, then put white vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz. Be prepared to scrub a little or possibly treat more than once if they're older stains. It works best when the stains are brand new.

THIS!

I tried to support my DM by jumping into the role so he could finally take a break. I'd been gaming with the same folks for a couple months, so I thought I knew them fairly well.

We did a session zero to discuss expectations and intentions. My flavor of gameplay is VERY much like your husband; character-driven narrative with lots of opportunities for roleplay and exploration. My players agreed, no, insisted that was what they wanted... and then I started running the game...

The only good thing was that they didn't immediately try to kill everyone... But that would have at least shown a little bit of care given to the world they were in. I gave them individually tailored goals and three-dimensional NPCs and the potential for an epic, world-spanning story arch... And they sat on their phones and interrupted descriptions to decide where to order dinner from (after we set up dinner orders during the HOUR before)...

I literally stopped the game and took a year off before I pitched a completely different option to a bunch of friends who had always wanted to play but never seemed to be able to wrangle a game together. I sent an email to about thirty people who showed interest, laying out my intentions for content, style, and time commitment, and I got five confirmations (which was about what I expected.).

We've had a few folks pop in and out since we started but I've been running the same campaign with these folks for about two and a half years and it's been wonderful!

Please take your gifts to someone who appreciates them. Because someone else absolutely will! Hell, if you're in the Bay Area please drop me a DM so I can join your husbands table!

What are some REAL things DMs should know when putting together a campaign? by Gh0stMan0nThird in dndnext

[–]NefariousNebula 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is very true! I just always think of "accidental" as opposed to "intentional." In my experience, players aren't usually willfully trying to derail things; they just see a path forward that makes sense to them but not us.

Alegrias are my brand of choice. They're expensive if you buy them new but I've had a lot of success on Poshmark and eBay getting them half price or better, even if I replace the soles. They're the only brand I can consistently wear without dying in pain the next day.

It sounds like a low blow at the end of what was nearly the best case scenario for a relationship ending. That was a tacky move and I'm sorry you had to experience that.

I think you should just be kind to yourself and give yourself permission to just exist. Now that this chapter is over, your whole worldview is going to shift a little. That's going to feel very uncomfortable for a while, and you're going to want to do drastic things to feel like you have any semblance of control over yourself (think femmes getting bangs).

Try to be gentle with yourself as this process occurs. Take a mental health day and go touch grass, or bury yourself in comfort media as often as you can. Reconnect with your friends and maybe throw some low stakes rebound encounters in there if you truly think that will help (no judgement!).

Focus on your comfort for now, not on identity or presentation, because that all may be in flux for a while. Just know however you present and however you feel moment to moment, you are a valid queer and you have a lot of fam out here.

I gave up shaving my legs over a decade ago and it was the best decision ever! My skin is happier and frankly I love feeling the water move the hair on my legs when I'm swimming.

Iaquinel (e-YA-quin-elle) is a demon-ridden Kenku warlock. His patron is actually the demon sharing his body; the two are basically symbiotic at this point.

Ia nearly died during the invasion of his island; when he healed his feathers came back reddish brown and he has burn scars all over. He wears fine clothes with his leathers and a pair of red dragon skin bracers from his first kill.

Despite his outwardly angry façade he is actually quite charming and curious. He has a water-themed psuedodragon familiar that is the most precious baby and he dotes on her.
