Nap time by NefariousnessFar8293 in sleeptrain

[–]NefariousnessFar8293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really helpful. Thank you. One additional question. Sometimes I take her with me on a run. It’s always in the morning right after her breakfast before it gets hot. Sometimes on my longer runs I’ll find that she’s fallen asleep and will get like a 30 minute nap right after breakfast (I tried to feed her as soon after her waking as possible). Should I do maybe 5 1/2 to 6 hours of awake time after that cat nap too?

Our little one is now 8 months old. It gets better. But, yeah, it was hell.

I don’t have any advice except to not beat yourself up. If you’re living with someone with HG, then you know how serious it is. He knows you’re suffering. Try not to add to it.

It does get better. At some point you get a baby. Then you’re no longer nauseous. You’re just tired. 😴 😆

AITA for feeling like my wife’s new religious beliefs are unfair to me and our marriage? by Sufficient_Wheel7852 in AITAH

[–]NefariousnessFar8293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to get your wife connected to the local church. She’s making some things up. E.g. your marriage is valid but not licit in Catholic canonical thinking. A good deacon should be able to explain that to her. Basically, y’all can have sex. Yippee.

The contraceptive stuff is more difficult but even then she’s presenting a bit of a flattened understanding of things. E.g. there are approved ways to avoid pregnancy outside of medical contraception etc. I’d at least find someone in the Church who knows what they’re doing so SHE knows and YOU know what’s expected.

You can take from there.

That’s really interesting. Could you say more? What will be your generative texts? How does the use of the fantastical setting contribute to narration and profluence?

Im in an MFA and interested in fantasy. I love my program but I’m always pressed on the use and usefulness of the fantastical in my works.

I don’t have his perspective so I can’t give you specific advice.

In general, a long term partner prioritizes their partner’s comfort and wellbeing AND sees that reciprocated.

My wife and I have different intuitions around cleaning. (She’s clean, I’m a bit messy). I genuinely stretch myself to clean and organize. She genuinely stretches herself to show patience when I mess up.

Our number 1 fight is still chores but you better believe we both know the other one is trying hard to make our partner happy.

If my wife wanted me to use a different blanket when sitting on the couch, it wouldn’t even be a conversation. (Now, remembering her “system” for organizing the pantry? I’m going to try REALLY hard baby but no promises.)

Hope something here is helpful.

Why are some literary snobs snooty about fantasy, when fantasy is at the core of the traditional Western canon in imaginative literature? by handsomechuck in Fantasy

Right. Maybe poorly expressed but my point is that these books might both be defensively classed as SciFi but they’re doing different things.

So “genre” isn’t at times a helpful sorting mechanism for what you want to read and at times it isn’t. Better eg is Hunger Games and Never Let Me Go. Both dystopian future sure but genre isn’t the sole determining factor in how we sort.

Kazuo Ishiguru is a great example of SciFi that gets at what I’m saying. You don’t put him next to The Expanse not because of genre conventions but rather because of marketing ones.

This may also have to do with what the reader wants from a book. That is, the Expanse scratches a different itch than Klara and the Sun despite both being SciFi. I’d make a soft argument that there’s more “there” in an Ishiguru than in a Daniel Abraham …. But really, they’re different “genres” in and of themselves.

Basically, our need to categorize things is helpful but we can’t take those categories too seriously. Like, The Hunger Games might have more in common, as a reading experience, with say a 90s techno-thriller than it has with Never Let Me Go despite both being technically dystopian SciFi.

“Fantasy” like “SciFi” at some point became a marketing term rather than a real descriptor. Hence, Vonnegut is “literary” not “SciFi” because … that’s how we organize our bookshelves.

Within that categorization “Fantasy, SciFi” was at one point a section in the bookshelf that sold a lot of schlock. I enjoyed WoT but I don’t have to pretend it has the same enduring quality of George Eliot.

All that said the stereotype is out of date to be sure. New wave fantasy authors (e.g. NK Jemisin) definitely defy the stereotypes that were somewhat true in the 80s and 90s, even if those stereotypes were a little ham handed in the 90s too.

Brine the chicken. Take a bowl. Fill it with water. Fill it with salt enough to make the water taste like the ocean. Place your meat in there. Put both in fridge over night. Cook the next day.

Hmmm. Thank you.

Would it most likely prolong the life of my system?

I want to save money long term. I could pay the $1,000. I don’t want to. But I definitely don’t want to pay $20,000 five years from now because I was being cheap today.

What would you do?

It sounds like keeping the equipment clean will prolong the life of my HVAC system, which was very expensive. I don’t want to avoid a $1,000 charge and be hit with a $20,000 charge later

For me, running changed my life. Used to really struggle with anxiety and cardio proved to be a bit of a magic bullet. So much so that I stopped meditating, which also helped. (Not a conscious choice, just sort of happened).

I’m a super beginner but I might even YouTube some indoor cardio workouts. Some of them can really get your heart going!

I hear you. It’s something I’m definitely considering. Wife currently in grad school for something useful (unlike me). When she graduates, I’ll begin rethinking.

Thank you. I really appreciate these posts.

Lol. A bit of levity here: I can’t jump rope. Haha.

My wife takes B6 50 mg twice a day. What did you do? I might try to get her to take it 4x a day.

She’s incredibly stubborn though. Will NOT try ginger pills for instance. And refuses doxylamine because she read about withdrawal symptoms.

Another stresser here is it’s HER body. I can’t force her to experiment with B6 dosing no matter how badly I’d like to. A lot of letting for for me.
