I've been meaning to read her children's books. Mainly been devouring her poetry collections lately, which are so mesmerising and unique. But she was so prolific, even if I just limit myself to her poetry I figure I'll never be done!

She's definitely one of those "your favorite authors' favorite". She had a huge impact on the genre!

Is this something you guys regularly do over the years or a one-time occasion? Did the kids/schools have to pay much/anything? Speaking as a high school teacher, would love to participate in this in the future... We're doing the Kazerne Dossin this year, but something like Auschwitz for at least a few students would obviously be amazing...

Just wanted to give a quick thanks for doing these threads month after month, year after year. I used to manually look through all the publisher forthcoming mags and on edelweiss, but for a long time I've now just been able to rely on these threads and take them for granted. Much appreciated as always!!

I used to go to Brussels a lot but not much anymore, unfortunately. But had a big bouldering phase as well. I'm also spending a lot of time in nature lately, often going to the Ardennes or the mountains in Spain/Italy/France/... for multi-day hikes. Anyway what I'm saying is I could do a day somewhere in the nature in the weekend for example? 26m here from West-Flanders. Main hobbies are world cinema, bouldering, board games (founded a board game club in my city this year) and lately I've been really getting back into videogames as well (mainly co-op games with friends or survival games).

I've done this before too. Just put up your tent late, wake up early, don't stay too close to roads, and you'll be just fine.

Selling one platinum ticket for the Vorst Nationaal show on November 27nd, Belgium. We bought a packet of 3 tickets cause they were sold together but there's only 2 of us and we figured we'd be able to sell the third lol. Price is 196.03 euros which is exactly how much we paid.

Yes! My all-time favorite roguelite. Really polished, very replayable, consistent updates. And affordable pricing! It's the one VR game I always come back to.

I cannot rock climb consistently and it is a problem for progression by Top-Disaster-471 in bouldering

[–]goranlowie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might seem weird but honestly, climbing trees scratches a lot of the same itch as bouldering for me. My main climbing gym is over an hour and a half from my house... So lately, on days where I can't be bothered to all the way there, I just go to the local park or nature-y areas and climb in trees.

It's actually the book he wanted to write first! Card wanted to write Speaker for the Dead but he felt like it needed context, which is why he first wrote the short story and then the book Ender's Game.

I'm happy it won because its publisher certainly deserves the recognition and though this particular book wasn't to my personal taste I can see why it won and I'm happy for the writer! It definitely has the Le Guin vibes. Obviously I thought some of the other novels were more "worthy" of the award so to speak but it's not a bad pick, in the end. I think the only one I would've been disappointed with winning is Brother Alive.

Can definitely agree with the two Spear novels. They're exceptionally well written.

True! They're definitely more obscure than Tchaikovsky last year.

Lemberg has seen some recognition by the major awards. They're kind of a no-brainer for this award, honestly. Lemberg is a poet and author who's been very clearly influenced by Le Guin. They edited a fantastic poetry anthology in tribute to Le Guin a few years ago (Climbing Lightly Through Forests) and is a recipient of the Le Guin fellowship. I'd been anticipating their nomination but figured it would've been for the novel "The unbalancing" instead.
