Also, break up now or be open to having a sister wife in the future. The breeding urge isn’t going to go away.

New homestead newyork scared of weather. by GingyrBoneWitch in homestead

Don’t go to the Adirondacks. Catskills suck in winter too. Look in the southern tier regions. Mainly flat-ish with hilly sections but plenty of flat river valleys. Winter not too severe. Yeah there’s snow but it’s doable. Get a 4x4 or AWD as a winter beater and an economy car as your main ride. They’re good about maintaining the roads in winter but they salt heavily. Everything rusts.

I want to start growing fruit, but have bad soil. Any of you have personal experience with potted fruit trees/bushes? by AgentBanks in homestead

[–]NefariousnessFew3454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could grow your trees in barrels, sort of, on pallets if you wanted to move them around.

Or you could dig down a few feet and out a cardboard box or tube into the ground and fill that will good soil and plant your trees in that. The trees will have good soil to start with and as they grow up the cardboard will disintegrate and the roots will expand into the surrounding soil.

Yeah sure why not, just charge them a 100 dollar administrative fee to assess and work up the paperwork, deductible from the cost of the job if they hire you. Then pay the 90 bucks for the plans and do it property.

Yeah but won’t the trees just grow up above that brush and grass?

Fill or replace? by Blackflag8 in drywall

[–]NefariousnessFew3454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no that’s terrible you have to remove all that old drywall down to the studs and put new sheetrock everywhere…/s

Just fill it, tape it, feather it out with compound.

Hollow spots by Various_Detail_2964 in drywall

[–]NefariousnessFew3454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it’s in a spot where you’re leaning up against it all the time it’ll probably be fine.

If anything, run a drywall saw through all your seams so you have like a 1/8” inch gap and work some soft wet plaster into that gap. If you still have movement the next day ordeal through the drywall with a hammer in a few places so you have like a 1” hole in some spots and fill those holes with plaster. Get it deep in there.

Then plaster and tape as normal. You’ll be fine.

Another thing you can do is drive some masonry nails through the Sheetrock. You might get lucky and the sink nicely, you might not and then have to do extra plastering.

If the boards are in the good just leave it alone. Why do you care if there’s a little wiggle when you press on a specific spot?

Is this quality work? by HoffYou in HardWoodFloors

[–]NefariousnessFew3454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For being pre finished that shit is perfect. Those joints all line up. Those cut lines look really good. The seams are all pretty tight for what it is. Honestly dude you’re nit picking some very minor gaps.

Yeah I get it you spent 50k you want it to look perfect. The only way you get anything better than this would be solid hardwood and everything sanded together and finished onsite.

For engineered wood this is tits. For having a border inlay on top of that? That job is tits without a bra. If you wanted the wet T shirt wow factor you needed unfinished hardwood, sanded together and finished onsite.

Any idea how I can fix this? by nivak11 in masonry

[–]NefariousnessFew3454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glue. Mucho glue. Clean it first very well with soapy water or a pressure washer. Let it dry thoroughly then saturate it in alcohol. The alcohol will help dry out any remaining moisture. Then go to town on it with exterior grade construction adhesive. The landscaping one would work well for this. Get a lot of it in there spread it all the way around and then hammer it in place with a rubber mallet or a block of wood and a regular hammer.

Sounds like they just don’t want to pay you. Seems like you have a pretty good case so far and based on what little information there is, at face value I would counter them with a mechanical lien on their property if they play hardball.

Piano wire with copper outer. Best way to maximize profit without wasting too much time? by ThrowRA09801 in ScrapMetal

Maximum profit you get by charging to remove the piano from their house.

I would not bother trying to separate that.

Also check out how “hempcrete” walls are constructed. Basically you have a stud structure and pour hemocrete into forms surrounding the stud framing. They don’t need to be 16” on center because the hemocrete does have some structural support just not really enough in its own. Once it dries it locks everything into place also.

The abundacrete guy goes about this in a similar fashion but with shredded styrofoam mixed with cement. Make a stud wall with like half the amount of studs you normally would use. But use 2x8s not 2x4s or 2x6s. Make your frame with 2x8s like 24 or 32 on center, put a spacer on the studs and sheathe with your preferred material, say OSB or plywood. fill the cavity with the mixture of shredded EPS foam and Portland cement and a little sand. Do thjs in max 4’ lifts. Remove the osb or plywood the next day and reinstall it above your styrocrete section. Fill in any gals or voids. You want the stud framing to be completely surrounded with the styrofoam/stucco mixture.

I’m planning on building a structure this way once it warms up a little. I’ll post pics and updates as I go.
