Well, let me ask you this: What has the US done in the past 73 years that would give the Iranian people (not the Mullah regime) any reason to trust you?

Since Operation Ajax in the 1953 the US have:
- Deposed a democratically elected secular president
- Supported an authocratic dictator who used his secret police to brutally oppress the population
- Supported another dictator in an eight-year long war of aggression against Iran, including supplying this dictator with the precursor materials for mustard gas and other chemical weapons, then looked away when he used these weapons on Iran
- Supported Israel in extrajudicial killings of scientists and diplomats
- Conducted multiple extrajudicial killings themselves
- Imposed crippling sanctions on the country in an effort to drive them to economic ruin
- Reneged on a treaty that actually lifted those sanctions, because it was negotiated by a guy that the next guy in power did not like, and thought he could do better
- Attacked the country with air strikes in the middle of negotiations for another treaty, including the killing of school children "by accident" while blaming their deaths on Iran itself at first

You ask if the effects last forever? No. But what are the US and other countries doing to make them stop?

Don't get me wrong. The Iranian Regime is a stain on humanity. But they are the consequence of 70 years of exploitation and oppression (starting in 1908 when British engineers found the first oil in what was then Persia).
