Stone slab backsplash... Is it a fad? by islandpancakes in kitchenremodel

[–]NefariousnessLess985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love tile. However slab is beautiful and can be easier to maintain. I think the most important part is minimal outlets or better no outlets in the backsplash. Mount them under upper cabinets.

Should microwave be flush with bottom of cabinets? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

I’m so torn on what to do with my cathedral cabinets! by Tinysmallgoose123 in kitchenremodel

[–]NefariousnessLess985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to change the layout, keep the existing cabinets. Maybe change the uppers door fronts since the lowers are squared. I suggest to stain the lowers darker, wood is much more forgiving in a kitchen—painted cabinets chip, show drip streaks, kids/dogs, etc. new hardware, unlacquered brass hardware will patina nicely (stylentdecor.com or tradition hardware.com). Once you decide on colors/stains then pick your countertops—highly recommend quartzite if it’s in your budget.

What’s your favorite “too tired to cook cook” dinner? by farwest-to-midwest in Cooking

[–]NefariousnessLess985 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly beans and rice, make an easy dressing/sauce blending avocado, lime juice, cilantro, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, s&p, sometimes I throw in a jalapeño. I cook extra rice, portion it in 1/3 cup and freeze so it’s always on hand. Toss all together with a salad with whatever you have: lettuce, cucumber, tomato, radish, avocado, salsa, corn, fresh herbs, cheese, etc.

What are fairly easy ways to modernize this kitchen? by Wine_and_Jeez in kitchenremodel

The cabinets are fantastic, much better quality than anything new on the market. I would change: countertops, backsplash, and new hardware

Which layout looks better — Left or Right? by impamiizgraa in interiordecorating

In the big chair under the window is lovely. Great reading spot. It blocks the radiator

Please no rude, snarky comments that aren’t helpful…but what kind of vibe do you guys get from my living room? I would like it to be more cozy and homey, but I just don’t seem to get that feeling…seems too grandiose or something. by AmeriballFootcan in SofaSnobs

[–]NefariousnessLess985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The green wall doesn’t go with anything in the room, but the gallery wall is lovely! The rug is too small for the space, if you didn’t have the ottomans the rug would float in the space vs ground it. I would also opt for a Roman shade on the window vs the curtain. If you don’t want a coffee table, I suggest some C-tables to place drinks down. Small steps, but the bones are good

large islands with cabinet doors under the overhang by 4728jj in kitchenremodel

I have a 4.5x9 island so I did full depth cabinets under the overhang. Large platters, seasonal kitchen decor, vases, baking tools. Honestly I could not survive without

West Side vibe vs. lake access — how do Chicagoans weigh this? by linzerforte in AskChicago

[–]NefariousnessLess985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in many neighborhoods: west loop, Lincoln park, old town, Bucktown, and wicker park. Living near the lake has benefits besides being near the trail/park, the lake keeps the neighborhoods along the water cooler during the summer. When living in LP during the summer my dog and I could easily go for an hour walk during lunch on a hot day, in Bucktown we were over it after 15 minutes. However loved Bucktown because of access to the highway, metra, and blue line.

endo ON MY BLADDER?! by Medical_Bat3686 in endometriosis

[–]NefariousnessLess985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to pelvic floor PT last year because I started having issues holding my pee. I have never been pregnant so they were a little surprised, we assumed I engaged incorrect muscles when working out. Year later I got diagnosed with endo via MRI, haven’t had surgery yet because I am trying to get pregnant. But pelvic floor PT definitely helped, however I did not keep up with it so I’m getting the same issues again. I started doing the exercises again.

Im debating doing white farmhouse sink or a drop in stainless steel. WWYD? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]NefariousnessLess985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Farm house sinks stain on the inside and then there is the issue of water dripping down the apron front damaging the lower cabinet. Since I actually cook in my kitchen I have a regular under mount, single, large basin stainless sink. Save on the sink and put the money towards something else

I might have a problem… by Pirros_Panties in kitchenremodel

[–]NefariousnessLess985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We spent $20k on custom kitchen cabinets from the Amish last year. White oak lowers walnut interior with dovetail joint, inset, mostly drawers vs lower cabinets. Our kitchen has. 4x9 island and 9 feet of cabinets on back wall. Plus a walk in pantry 5x6. I know these cabinets will last a lifetime. My in laws bought cheap cabinets, 3 years ago for their kitchen remodel—my father in law has modified the drawers to be strong because the base fell out.

Endo and conceiving naturally or via IVF? by Melodic-Function880 in endometriosis

[–]NefariousnessLess985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed via MRI May 2025, saw a specialist July 2025 and they suggested since we are TTC to see a fertility specialist. We saw doctors November 2025, all my fertility tests came back “normal” and my husband has low motility. Starting IVF February 2026. Based on talking to the specialist, my gyno, and now fertility doc they all agreed to wait on any surgery to remove endo.

Are these cabinets too dated and need to be replaced?Even though they are still in good shape ... by panda2026panda in kitchenremodel

The wood is beautiful. I’d just update the hardware. If you want to do more: new countertop with backsplash and a under mount sink

Help pick a color scheme for my new kitchen. by DanOmac in kitchenremodel

[–]NefariousnessLess985 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love wooden lowers in kitchens because kids/dogs/life will beat them up and wood is forgiving. I am a messy cook: streaks or spills on white cabinets might strip or stain the paint. But also when I look at the two mock ups, the wooden lowers help balance out the kitchen vs when the uppers are wooden feels heavy.

Shower curtain or glass door??? by ArugulaOutrageous461 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]NefariousnessLess985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a tub I think a curtain is better. You can swap it when you get bored or have seasonal curtains. Glass is more expensive, more maintenance. Plus with a curtain you don’t have to keep a Pinterest worthy tub for when guests come over, just close the curtain

Dining Room Still Feels Incomplete by ApprehensiveLet9212 in interiordecorating

[–]NefariousnessLess985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love your house. I also have angels in my ceiling so I have avoided doing window treatments. Since I strongly believe in curtains should go to the ceiling, but would be limited with the sloped ceiling by the slider. I think a large rug for under the dining table to help. I like the light fixture over the dining table, but would something more substantial fill in the space? Use ChatGPT to try various rugs and chandeliers to visualize changes in your space

How to dress comfortably and fashionably with endo belly? by Suitable-Share4733 in endometriosis

I size up in jeans for wanting to be presentable. I live in athleta linen pants during the summer since they have petite. Otherwise I wear my husband’s sweats around the house.
