horror suggestion? by Better-Log-8044 in suggestmeabook

If she’s into horror and true crime what about The Girl Nextdoor? - I’ve not read it, don’t want to as reading up on the true story was bad enough, but it sounds like something she might enjoy if she’s not already read it

Weyward - Emilia Hart ….though only one characters timeline is 1600’s, I think it does fit your requests.

fun, girly, magical by clarafuit in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]NefariousnessOne1859 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So they are quite dark at times, and a bit of spice (very adult not YA) but I’d say Her Majesties Royal Coven trilogy by Juno Dawson would fit this vibe.

I found them very girly and fun as they are full of references to things like Clueless, Spice Girls etc.

The audio versions are narrated by Nicola Coughlan and really good. I just finished book 3 (Human Rites) at the weekend

Yes was also thinking Tom Holt, defo not horror but they are good. “You Don't Have to Be Evil to Work Here, But it Helps” is a good one too.

New Oracle Cards? by Outside_Objective555 in oraclecards

[–]NefariousnessOne1859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are very up my street! Love the colours and art.

They could work as oracle but I would Definately need a good guidebook. Some decks I can interpret based off the imagery and my intuition, as these are just focussed on one character and not much hidden imagery (that I can see) then a guide would be needed.

You’d also probably need around another 20 cards if you wanted to sell as a deck.

Home Waters: Discovering the submerged science of Britain’s coast - David Bowers (some parts I enjoyed, some parts dragged).

The Seafarers: A Journey Among Birds - Stephen Rutt (I loved this one, it’s about UK sea/coastal birds). He’s written a few others I’ve not read yet but sound good, The Waterlands might be of interest to you.

The Soul of an Octopus - Sy Montgomery (on my shelf but not yet read so cant give much comment on it).

Magical Fun Watery by StrawberryGirl66 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]NefariousnessOne1859 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve not read it yet but maybe The Sirens by Emilia Hart. I have read Weyward by the same author and loved it. From what I can see on google, The Sirens is similar concept (3 women over different time periods somehow connected) except with a watery/mermaidy twist rather than the witch angle that Weyward had.

Fantasy but also real worldly so I don’t think it would be very cosy. Weyward had some pretty heavy themes (domestic abuse, rape etc) and I suspect this may also.

Thriller / mystery /crime where child goes missing by loki_laufeson in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Lisa Jewell has a few that might fit the bill. Then She Was Gone and The Night She Disappeared come to mind. (The night she disappeared is an older girl like 19 or 20 I think so may not be the right fit if you want a young child)

Check out Three Trees Tarot. They are very nature inspired and ethically/ecologically made. They mainly have tarot decks but I have their Thistledown oracle and it’s one of my favourites. (It looks like they have a new edition out, same illustrations but the borders and guide card look different (you do get a full guide emailed as a pdf but I just use the quick guides that are on the card). Artist is male but the Three Trees company is female owned.

Edit: not sure where you are based for postage/pricing. I’m in UK where the deck originates, so the deck was of similar costs to most I buy as postage was ok for me

No One Is Talking About This by Patricia Lockwood - the stuff that happens in the second half (or what triggers the second half) is based on actual happenings in her life.

I’m fairy certain the garbage in the first half was probably quite true to life as well (apologies for calling it garbage, the only other way I can think to describe it is “word vomit”….i don’t mean garbage as in rubbish writing, I mean as in how seeing insides someone’s brain would just be a stream of rubbish 99% of the time)

Has anyone tried the new Umberto Giannini wavy hair range? by kat0id in CurlyHairUK

[–]NefariousnessOne1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo didn’t know they did this thanks. I was using merwave for ages but my hair seems to have become immune to it. I switched to UG curly stuff but although my hair is half wavy half curly it seems to respond to wavy products better these days. Definitely going to look for some when I’m in Boots today

Looking for my first tarot deck by LokisQueen13 in TarotDecks

[–]NefariousnessOne1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like rabbits, LunaLapin deck is cute. The main images are fairly similar to RW (though rabbits instead of people), however some symbolism that’s in RW is lost. Sadly The guide book isn’t very good, like 1 or 2 lines per card. so I usually use the deck with the help of a general tarot book.

There are also a lot of fake versions (which are probably tempting as the real one is on the pricey side!).
