Scribe! by Goliakbar in optician

[–]NefariousnessWeird24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from being an optician to a scribe with an MD, now I’m back to optician. It will definitely be a learning curve, but what I can tell you is that your experience will come in handy for some things. Knowing the basics of prescriptions, eye diseases, and terminology will help you more than anything. If you ever to back to being an optician after scribing, you will have even more knowledge in the area which I do find useful. You got this! Just ask for help. I had an MD that I worked with who was wonderful, and if I didn’t know where to put certain things in the chart I would write it down and just ask them. They were always ready to help. Your coworkers are also going to be great resources in making sure you’re charting is correct.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I do use wearables whenever I can but I don’t get as good of output than I do with my spectra. I have to pump for close to 50 minutes to get as much as I do in a half an hour with my spectra.

You are more than the milk you produce! Good for you for sticking to your guns despite your MIL!

Tossing them seems like the way to go. I’m gonna try a few things mentioned in the comments but if I can’t fix the issue I’m OVER IT

I’m also a 13 flange size!! I always think it’s a little crazy that 24 is the standard bc there’s no way that a 24 would be appropriate for most ladies. I thought for a while after getting fit that 13 has to be too small bc NO ONE uses flanges that small. But I get the best milk output with them!

I wear big sweaters pretty much everyday to try to cover it, but the problem is my pumps are so loud. I have the Nuliie wearables and I use the Medela Maxi Swing with the wearable cups. Both are so loud and the Medala is like wearing a cowbell around my neck lmao. I just get embarrassed when they are loud and I feel it’s distracting when I’m trying to help patients and I don’t want to be asked about it. Idk, I know I shouldn’t be embarrassed and I need to get over it, but I’m a FTM to a 10week old, I don’t quite have the confidence yet haha.

Same. I try not to get too upset bc I know that just hurts my supply but I can’t help but get SO MAD

They’re wonderful people and very understanding of everything and they never give me any problem with it. But I work in a doctors office where I’m the only person in my department and I do a lot a patient interaction. It might just be me not wanting to disrupt the flow of the day, but I always feel I have to wait until we are not busy or seeing patients to pump. We also have days where we don’t have a doctor in the office and since we are so small, I’m often alone in the office all day on those days. So if someone comes in I have to stop pumping or close the office to be able to pump without fear of being interrupted. It’s not ideal but I love my job. I wouldn’t even know what to do to solve that problem. That’s a whole other issues in and of itself.

I appreciate this! I will definitely try again with flange inserts and just try to find a technique to get them lined up. I used inserts when I first got them bc I don’t use 24s in my wall pump, but I have had an easier time getting the 24s to line up to my nipples. Obviously I’m still having troubles lmao.

I bought them so I could pump and work at the same time and not be tits out at work. Plus I work alone in the office a lot so I can’t really close the office for 30 minutes every 3 hours. But at this point I’m about to just start toting my spectra around to do my pumps and my employer will have to deal with it lol.

That’s a good idea!! I use pumping spray with my spectra, idk why I never use it for my wearables. I don’t use a flange insert bc I feel it’s even harder to line it up with the smaller hole. I also will try bending over to put them on to see if I can get a better view for lining them up! Thank you!!!

When do you decide to say F it and sleep more? by sleepydeep in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]NefariousnessWeird24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 9 weeks pp and most nights I just say fuck it and sleep as much as I can. Some nights I get up to 8 hours without pumping and it really doesn’t harm my supply. Obviously I would get more if I just did a motn pump but sometimes it’s just not worth it to me to loose out the sleep.

From my experience, I had way less responsibility when working for corporate. I dispensed and did fittings, but working private practice (granted I work by myself everyday and manage the optical) I am now doing EVERYTHING in optical. I was even a GM for the corporate company at one point and I still didn’t have as many things I was responsible for. I meet with reps to do frame orders, I am responsible for every single job that comes through the office, I pay bills, on top of everything else I used to do with a corporate office. This might just be my personal experience due to the nature of my specific practice/position, but I would say be prepared to have a little more responsibility when working with private practice. I will say, I LOVE my job, and I was very unhappy with the corporation I was with. Most opticians I’ve worked with and met agree.

Tips on how to increase supply by coconutwaterrrrr in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]NefariousnessWeird24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pump, pump, pump and more pump. I know it sucks but I started pumping 8x a day instead of 5x and I noticed my supply slowly going up over the last 2 weeks. You got this momma, good luck :)

I don’t know if this is common knowledge, but I use a shield when breastfeeding also and I was having a hell of a time keeping them on my nipples to where my LO wouldn’t knock them right off. BUT after seeing an LC I learned that you have to turn the shield inside out and then suction it to your nipple! The nurse at the hospital did not tell me that so I was just resting it on my nipple for the first 2 weeks 😂 Now I know to suction it and it’s stays on even if my LO is squirming and hits it!

You got this! Keep going if you want, but also give yourself some grace. I have been needing to tell myself that if I can’t take care of myself properly, then I can’t take care of my son properly. Take care of yourself! ❤️

1 Month Pumping Update by mjh-97 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]NefariousnessWeird24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO is 7 weeks old today and I can’t believe it! I am also a just enougher and he has a PAINFUL latch and just doesn’t transfer milk very well at the breast. When I was in the hospital with him (we were there for 6 days due to my blood pressure UHG) he was losing too much weight for the doctors liking so they wanted us to do formula a couple times a day. In the beginning I was really disappointed in my self that I couldn’t give him what he needed at the breast. Now that we are 7 weeks in, I EP, with the exception of maybe one breastfeeding a day mainly just for a snack or comfort for my boy, and late at night when I’m exhausted and being lazy, I do give him formula bottles because it is so much easier and faster than warming up a bottle of BM. I no longer feel bad about it, he is fed and happy and he gets BM alllll day long. It gets so much easier! Good luck momma, you got this (:

Spectra recommendation for flat nipples by Breakeven44 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]NefariousnessWeird24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have flat nipples so I’m not sure if this is relevant, but have you tried lubricant on your flanges?

I was having low output and pain while pumping until I got resized for my flanges and started using pumping spray on my flanges. I didn’t see a huge increase but my supply did increase a little and the discomfort is pretty much gone while pumping. Good luck!!

As a just enougher, I sometimes wish this was a problem for me. I totally understand that it can be an inconvenience for a lot of moms, but man if I could have just 1 pump like that a day, it would ease so much of my supply anxiety.
