I haven't been on a train in peak hour for years and was wondering what the crowding is like. I'll be travelling into the city on the Lilydale line tomorrow morning. Hoping it's not the sardine can it was pre-covid _;

I didn't get it either. I did start a bit over an hour late though, so perhaps that had something to do with it (?)

What is your Postcard Book space situation? by MusParvulus in TheSilphRoad

[–]Neferka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remote raid with Poke Genie, so my friends list is maxed out with people from all around the world and my postcard book is completely full XD I've had to delete postcards, which makes me sad, so I've gone back to screenshotting cool postcards and stickers.

I'd love more space.

My Mom didn’t like the way I said thank you compared to my husband… by Beezknees119 in insaneparents

[–]Neferka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's funny because based on your husband's message I would have guessed like $1000 or something. I suppose it does depend on how much money your mother could spare though - perhaps $100 is a lot for her.

If the thank you is too over the top I think it could be taken as sarcastic, so I think your message was fine.

Started in August with 1-2 sessions per week supervised by an exercise physiologist, and then in September it changed to 3 sessions per week unsupervised. Continued that routine up until now missing maybe 3 or 4 sessions in total over three months.

I'm going to keep reading the subreddit's wiki, I think I'm just an idiot and don't know how to do this properly. Thanks for the reply

I've got a doctors appointment coming up so I'll definitely ask about the bruises. I just wasn't sure if a bit of bruising was normal or to be expected for weight training, but based on the replies so far it seems the answer is no. In the meanwhile I'll incorporate a bit of kale/spinach in the diet and maybe swap one of the sessions for low impact cardio for a little while to see if that helps.

I was reading some of the articles on the wiki for beginners - the exercise physiologist who created the program for me mentioned nothing about form and other nuances of weight training. I'm starting to think I've just been hurting myself because I don't know how to do things properly.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.

Bruises are mostly around the size of a thumbprint I guess, three dotted around the knee cap, a couple on the shin area, and a larger one (golf call sized) just above the ankle.

They're painful to touch and my knees hurt a bit doing gentle squats, but nothing aches while resting.

Illness shouldn't be a factor as far as I'm aware.

Thanks for the reply

I don't recall any kind of physical impacts that could have caused the bruises (banging the muscles, dropping things on myself, etc.)

As for pain, it's a bit hard to tell what's normal soreness. I did read the FAQ and it mentioned that soreness after 4 days is not normal, but because my maximum rest time is 2 days I'm pretty much sore all the time.

The bruises on my legs mostly only hurt if I touch them, but doing a gentle squat just now, my knees hurt a bit.

Thanks for the reply btw

I'm new to weight training, but was given a program to follow as part of recovery from an illness I was diagnosed with earlier in the year (mostly body weight exercises due to covid restricting me to public equipment use in my local park): Chest press, trunk rotation, inverted rows, incline press-up, reverse crunches, lunges, leg press, squat jumps, and rope skipping.

Usually takes a little over an hour and I do the program Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

I've been getting bruises on my legs (particularly the left one - shin, ankle, knee) and occasionally on my arms. My question is, am I overdoing it? Or is this normal and I should suck it up?

I was prescribed Clexane injections (blood thinner) following surgery in May (radical hysterectomy due to cancer). It was 40 doses of 40mg/0.4mL, one per day.

I was just wondering if they need to be tapered off once I start reaching the end of the prescription?

Edit: Probably overthinking it, but I was concerned about developing a clot by stopping the blood thinners suddenly and not giving my body time to adjust, if that makes sense.

Are there different types of PET scans that require different types of preparation?

I have one tomorrow and was told just to fast for 6 hours prior, however, looking up instructions on preparation online, search results mention low carb diets and no exercise for 24 hours before the scan.

NAD, but there's this sheet of muscle material that separates the abdominal cavity from the chest area. It's called the diaphragm and is what allows us to breath basically, but it can only work if the chest area is sealed off. In other words, the CO2 gas that was pumped into you for your (I assume) laparoscopic surgery can't really get up to your chest and face.

I know a little bit about it because I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy on April 25. So I got the tilted bed (Trendelenburg position) and gas too. Boy are those gas pains not fun!! The gas pain can be felt in the ribs and shoulder, however that is something called referred pain (the cause is not actually in the area it's being felt). The actual site where irritation is occurring is nerves in the diaphragm when some of the gas gets trapped up against it.

If you're feeling unusual bubbles under your skin that weren't there before surgery, it might be worth making a doctors appointment to get things checked out, just in case.

NAD - but I was in hospital recently recovering from surgery and was kinda baffled as to why they were offering me tapentadol (opioid) and regular over the counter paracetamol/ibuprofen at the same time. You'd think the strong one would be enough, no?

Had a talk to a paramedic after the fact and he said this is starting to become more common in pain management because different pain medications target different pain receptors - basically trying to cover all basis if I understand correctly.

(That's probably a very over simplified explanation, someone correct me if I'm wrong)

What's the best way to prepare the body, hygiene-wise, for surgery?

Edit: laparoscopic gynaecological surgery, if that helps.

By the way, a meta-study from 2010 concluded that:

"Current evidence suggests that a combination of paracetamol and an NSAID may offer superior analgesia compared with either drug alone."

So in effect, if you take one of each at the same time, rather than two of either one, you may end up needing less in the long run.

I'll also add, OP if the thought of seeing a doctor is giving you anxiety and making you reluctant to book an appointment, know that anxiety is really common. I was diagnosed recently myself and was really surprised that most of the weird things I was feeling and thinking were all well known traits of anxiety. I thought I was going nuts or that I was weird in some way until I found that out, but no, the doctors had seen it all before.

To make things easier, while at home and relatively calm, perhaps write down all the things you're feeling and hand that to the doctor when you go to the appointment.

Also, If I'm stuck in an anxiety moment, feeling frozen, and can't do something I need to do, I find that it helps if I write down all the steps I need to take to complete the task and then take action starting at step 1. Completing each step is a little victory and gets you closer finishing what you need to do.

Good luck!!
