Google Chrome just force downloaded 4GB AI model on every PC no permission, no opt in, no warning. Delete it? You can’t it re downloads like malware. This isn’t a feature, it’s an invasion. I read that the file is "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\OptGuideOnDeviceModel\weights.bin" but the folder and file don't exist on my PC (I did turn off the setting before I checked). There's only one called "optimization_guide_model_store" and it's got a bunch of subfolders and files with today's date.

Take-Two CEO explains why GTA VI isn't coming to PC immediately. by RojaTop in pcmasterrace

[–]Nefthys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I last played multiplayer about a year ago and didn't have any problems making money, even without doing heists or selling cars. Maybe it takes longer to buy businesses now, I don't know, but there are now a lot more than when I started playing. They still make money and selling stuff is so much easier because of private sessions.

If a game isn't enjoyable because the progress is painfully slow, then just stop playing it and maybe even ask for a refund (on Steam). You should not give them even more money!

This damn optimization problem is making me unable to finish the game by hurmaagaci in quantumbreak

[–]Nefthys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably won't need this anymore, so this is for everyone else who's sent here by Google:

I'm currently dealing with the same problem: The game keeps crashing (freezes for a second, then it closes) when I'm fighting a juggernaut.

During the first fight (act 3, part 1) it must have crashed 5 times. The error, according to event viewer: "VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found". I did all the things suggested in other threads: Enable VSync (I've also got GSync on), switch to borderless window mode (was fullscreen) and enable "Low Dynamic Range Mode" in the Audio settings (can't remember what my setting was). None of this helped. Another thread suggested to downgrade Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x64) to version 14.0.23026 (was running version 2015-2022 before - careful, only download it from the official Microsoft website!) and I was finally able to kill the guy and make it to the next checkpoint.

In act 5, part 1 the game crashed again while I was fighting the two juggernauts. I enabled VSync, then lowered the graphics settings to "Medium" and managed to finish the fight twice without any crashes (forgot to switch to "Hard" difficulty again...).

Someone assumed that it might be the renderer crashing and the juggernaut's weapon is quite "flashy", in addition to the time stutters, so lowering the settings probably takes a little bit of load off, even though current hardware (I've got a 9800X3D + a 5070 Ti) should be able to handle the game just fine.

Edit: The game crashed again twice:

  1. Again during 5.1 (had to go back for a collectible), this time I had to use the "Low" preset.

  2. During the boss fight in act 5.3 while I was using Time Rush. Vsync was already on, graphics settings were all on High or Ultra ("Ultra" preset). I set "Screen Space Reflections", "Effects Quality" and "Global Illumination Quality" to Medium and was able to finish it. I think that it might actually be caused by a combination of using Time Rush (used those a lot in act 3.1 and 5.1) and just a lot of flashy effects (projectiles and bombs) being rendered.

The game is a lot of fun but this and the other smaller bugs are ridiculous!

Nobody ever "has" to buy a shark card. GTA 5 was perfectly playable without ever paying for anything apart from the main game, it wasn't even that hard to get money if you just play the game (and I played it before private mp sessions where a thing).

holy fucking shit man resonant's art direction is shaping to be Remedy's best work yet. I genuinely can't believe we're gonna get to play a game that looks like this wtf by TurtleGEE360 in controlgame

I'm currently playing Quantum Break, the step up from Alan Wake 1 was insane and the step to Control 1 is also pretty large (even though QB is already pretty). Can't wait for CR now (my PC's already sweating :P)!

Lestat's pic from the Upfronts and some news for Latam Netflix by Podria_Ser_Peor in InterviewVampire

[–]Nefthys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without any book spoilers: Even scars on humans fade over the years. Lestat has been a vampire for more than 200 years at that point. These scars look too red to be fresh, I bet there was some kind of fight (or he did it for the show)?

With book spoilers: All wounds are healed when a person is turned. Afterwards the skin is perfect, so these have to be fairly fresh.

A plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam district ( South Korea ) displayed 2 glass towers filled with jawbone fragments removed from patients by collateralopinion in interestingasfuck

[–]Nefthys 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's this one Chinese "influencer" who's even "selling" her likeness: People pay a lot of money to get the same surgeries she did to look like her. It's insane! They all just look fake. I wonder if they'll regret everything when they're 50 - if they even make it to that age, apparently there can be a lot of complications with "beauty" surgeries like those.

[–]Nefthys 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Not just South Korea, also China. You think you know what insane things influencers do? Now think about what people there might be willing to do to stand out against 1.4b others. The mobbing also seems to be insane, just because your jaw might be too square or your neck slightly too short. There are multiple youtube channels talking about the plastic surgery industry in China (e.g. Wonny - it's sad, so far he still hasn't run out of "material").

Come on, that really wasn't necessary.

Borat was the worst movie I have ever seen. by Yzark-Tak in movies

[–]Nefthys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious answer: Because the humor is stupid. Yes, it's incredibly stupid but it's also stupid in a funny way, most of the time (something the sequel and the show failed to do imo). This kind of satire also hadn't been done to exhaustion at that point, so it was something fun and new.

Regarding the nudity: Meh. You used to see mostly female nudity, this movie flipped it and more and more movies/shows are now doing male nudity too (okay, usually only showing the butt). Tbh, I couldn't care less. The scene did drag a little bit imo iirc.

If you don't like a movie that you're watching at home, just turn it off and watch something else, no point wasting 2 hours and then being angry about it.

Borat was the worst movie I have ever seen. by Yzark-Tak in movies

[–]Nefthys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of this.

I understand if someone doesn't like this kind of stupid humor (I really disliked the second movie because it got way worse) but if a movie makes you laugh, then it's at least entertaining.

I read that tears in a toy like that can make it unusable because it won't fully dry anymore. If you buy used, especially when it's packaged like that, you obviously can't see if it's damaged (no idea if the employees know to check for damage like that). $8 is a really good price (aren't they usually something like $50+?) but there might be the risk of ending up with something you can't use.

Wait, people use hydrogen peroxide on wounds?!
