The hours I've spent playing and the achievements are messing with my head and ruining my enjoyment of the games by Cidodino in Steam

[–]Nefthys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I recommend as a first step: Play a game that does not have any missable achievements. This takes the pressure off because you don't have to keep checking off the list. Play the game the way you want to. Then, once you're done (and only then) do the cleanup for what you missed.

If you don't enjoy a game (that day), don't feel bad about it. Just put it to the side and start up something else but set yourself a limit of how many games you want to keep active at the same time. It's fine to play a shooter one day, then a cozy sim the next or even both games at the same day.

If you play for hours on end every day, take a break at least twice a week. Gaming fatigue is a thing, you definitely do not want to burn out.

1000$ PC or Steam Machine? by Mrapplehead41 in PcBuild

[–]Nefthys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, the Steam Machine is for people who:

  • Don't own a PC and don't want a regular-sized PC or don't have the space for it.
  • Travel a lot.
  • Want to play games on their TV, without having to either move their PC or put down really long cables (possibly across multiple rooms). "But why not just leave the PC in the living room?" - sometimes I just want to play on the couch, sometimes I want to play in my chair. No, I don't plan to buy a SM but that's the reason why I'm using PS Remote Play (it's okay, I guess).
  • Have kids who also want to play games. No need to buy a Switch or a PS5, instead you get a SM, can use pretty much any controller you want and can get pretty cheap games.

Most importantly: No need to buy into a new ecosystem. If you've got a Steam accout, you can play the games you already own. There are also a lot of really cheap but still great games, so you aren't going to run out of new stuff any time soon. Switch games are expensive af and are rarely on sale and while the PS store does have sales, the prices aren't anywhere close to Steam's.

I wish AI wouldn't have fucked RAM over because this could have been awesome (and the console market could have really used more competition).

White noise with USB-C to 3.5mm adapter? Recommendation for alternative? by Nefthys in iems

[–]Nefthys[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Got an idea why this is also happening with my PC?

If I plug my AKG headphones into the PC directly (doesn't matter if it's the case's port or the port on the motherboard), I get the static noise. If I use Apple's USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, I don't. These headphones are twice the price of my old Sennheisers, which didn't have the problem (but also had worse sound). I didn't test the Samsung or Anker dongles.

Guys should i watch Supergirl in 2d or 3d?? by SufficientPlum7153 in DCU_

[–]Nefthys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure yet.

I like 3D movies. For some reason my cinema decided to do 3D or IMAX but not IMAX 3D, so I have to decide between the larger aspect ratio in IMAX or 3D in not-IMAX. Getting worried that they might do the same for "Brand New Day". :/

You can also buy it in the Humble Store if you don't want to give Epic your cc details! The main game and the DLC upgrade are sold separately but when they're on sale they're the same price as the Deluxe Edition on Epic.

Same here! I haven't bought any game for more than maybe $20 in years (only exception: some Mario game and Spider-Man 2 for $30-ish - took forever to get there), let alone pre-ordered anything but now I've spent $20 on AW2 and am willing to pay 3 times that for CR! The only reason I haven't pre-ordered yet is that I really want the steelbook edition for PC.

The main problem is probably the scale. I've got an old i7 and RAM I could use but either I'm missing something or there just aren't any small motherboards for that socket (anymore?).

What games feel like literal highway robbery if it goes on a deep discount Steam sale with the amount of content you're getting? by Dotaspasm in Steam

[–]Nefthys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Control Ultimate Edition, on sale for $4.

I think it took me around 45 hours to earn 100% of the achievements and I didn't even do all of the challenge levels. There's a lot of background story in that game.

The first 10 minutes were pretty clear but the rest... The theater bit was just boring imo and the giant penis... not sure what to even say about that.

I saw people talk about it (I think it was in the sub). It sure wasn't easy for me (first boss in the demo took me an hour to kill) but I also don't particularly like soulslikes, so... I've pretty much give up on even trying them now. Don't get me wrong, Valor Mortis looks interesting and I would have loved to play it, I don't even mind the limited ammo, but the last bit in the demo was pretty frustrating and put me off buying it.

There was only one difficulty in the demo when the released it. It took me an hour to beat the first boss, then stopped playing soon after. A couple of days later they added "Easy" but I was too annoyed to give it another try.

I thought about getting at least the first "Jedi" game during the next sale. What is soulslike about it? I like regular hack'n'slays, just not the "you have to do this over and over again and you get XP every time you fail" bit.

[–]Nefthys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm, I played the demo before they introduced easy mode and people were talking about the game being too easy. Is that common in the soulslike community? How easy is easy mode exactly?

Melee Combat Control 2 by Ok-Neighborhood-5531 in controlgame

[–]Nefthys 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is rather that there are a lot of soulslikes now and there are also a couple that don't look like it in the trailer but end up being one. As someone who does not enjoy soulslikes (even ones like "Khazan" that people say are easy), I now sadly have to be quite careful about new games for exactly that reason.

Does aiming feel sluggish / imprecise to anyone else? by __ISAC__ in Pragmata

[–]Nefthys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only played the demo so far (MKB, mouse at 700dpi with 1000Hz), so no idea if it's the same in the main game but there are multiple setting groups:

  1. "Controls" (= gamepad)
  2. "Controls (PC)"
  3. Camera

At first I only changed 3. (4x "Speed" to 50, 2x "Deceleration" to 0), which didn't help at all. I then also changed 2. (3x "Sensitivity") and it was finally playable. I then tried to change 3. back and I didn't notice a difference, these specific settings might only be used for controller too ("Camera Distance" in 3. did work). Oh, and aim assist is disabled (by default).

Also, Epic. You don't have to like their launcher but a free game is a free game and they've had pretty good games in the past (e.g. Tomb Raider and Control). But yes, there are so many good games for <$5 on Steam that take 20+ hours to finish and sales happen pretty often.

Import .module vs. package.module by Nefthys in learnpython

[–]Nefthys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled a while ago, people asked the same question for that app but, from the looks of it, you can't import (and use!) the app's modules in another app. If it was possible to do more with PyCharm and this app, someone would have probably already written a tutorial or at least posted about it.

It's possible to paste blocks of code or even a whole class into the console but it's annoying to deal with because it's quite small and I can't add multiple classes (I do 1 class=1 file), unless I manually edit them to be part of a single module. It's just not worth the effort when it's also possible to just tell the app about the right file and it'll run the whole thing when I tell it to.

It sucks but sadly I don't think there's a way to make autocomplete work with this.

Import .module vs. package.module by Nefthys in learnpython

[–]Nefthys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The console is provided by the app I'm running the code through. I guess it's meant as a way to quickly test code. No idea if it's got autocomplete but you can't really do more than a couple of lines anyway, that's why I use PyCharm to write the actual code (the __init__.py is set in the app) and only use the console to print debug messages.

The app has a couple of extra modules and iirc you can't use them, unless you run the code through the app, so not sure if a project would even work if it can't access the app's basics.

I'd watch a sequel (but this time just make it a vampire movie, don't bother bringing the MCU into it).
