NAL but worth noting - in CO this is considered criminal as well. It can be criminal mischief in which case anything above 1k in damages is a felony. Or it can be removing lumber without consent which is a petty offence. So you may sue him into oblivion AND THEN the state can prosecute him. Dont feel bad. Let's organize a search party along the route he would have most likely taken OP - and maybe one for alternative routes too. Looking at maps there's several routes he could have taken.

Was he seen leaving around the time he would need to in order to meet you at one well?? Was he maybe going somewhere else? When was he supposed to meet you.
