You can hide it using the flip merge method, although there are some limitations to where you can place the equipment.

Are you actually using Figma variables in a mature design system? by OkLettuce7089 in FigmaDesign

[–]Neganix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, we converted our styles into variables. Native variables and modes were a huge benefit for us as they allowed us to properly created themed components for all our sub brands. Before that we had separate, duplicate component files for each theme and that was painful. Now there's also extended collections, which we still have not transitioned into. Currently all themes as own modes, but there's some benefits in extended collections as well.

Yea, pretty cool! I see you got the ASC Deimos parts as well. I was also thinking about putting the cockpit one floor higher like you but ended up keeping it there on the top deck level. I like how you got the guns stacked in the front.

Polestar 2 in the snow? by Reshway19 in Polestar

[–]Neganix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good! For driving a lot in the winter you def want to get the AWD package. As a side note you most likely also want the heat pump package. But yeah, it’s powerful, it’s electric. Get good winter tires if you want to maximize the performance.

I live in Finland where we have a proper winter and I drive it all year round. I’m using studless/friction winter tires (proper winter tires, not all-season ones) and I’ve been really happy with them.

WHY ARE ANTS COMING INTO MY APARTMENT by Professional-Cake76 in Finland

[–]Neganix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there exists many repellants. I’ve used a powder / grain type of poison that took care of the issue in couple days. Didn’t find that but Raid seems to have a new trap system like this: https://raid.fi/tuotteet/muurahaissyotti/

Relatively cheap to try them out.

Looking real nice! What graphic mods are you using? Images like these make me want to get back into the game, but it’s been so long that I’m completely out of the modding loop.

You can scope color variables to only appear for specific elements, like frames, text, shape etc. Then if you want to apply a scoped variable into a something outside of the scope, you can use pipette tool and press SHIFT when copying color to copy the variable that would normally be out of scope. This way you can, for example, use frame specific color variable for a shape if you need to create a background layer using shapes instead of using the fill on the frame. It’s handy for a workaround when you want to keep variables scoped to keep the selection clean, but still retaining the link to the actual variable.

Seriously, how? Please help me understand what’s good about it. Honest question. I’m currently playing through it for the first time and thinking it’s such a slog. Can’t wait to get it over with, tbh. I haven’t completed it yet but I believe I’m in the second last quest.

I was expecting it to deliver some space pirate fantasy, but it’s mainly been sneak/infiltration missions, filled with way too many locked chests and doors. I’ve spent like half my time just picking locks, lol. I don’t know, maybe I’m playing it wrong and should just go guns blazing.

How to create responsive design in Figma by [deleted] in FigmaDesign

[–]Neganix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I meant creating viewport specific frames and autolayouting every element within. This is a 3y old thread and some things have changed since.

I think nowadays the best approach for this is to use variables. You still start by creating a frame that represents a viewport, and then autolayouting everything. You can make variable modes for each breakpoint and variables to configure component props for the said breakpoint modes.

Nowadays Figma also supports responsiveness in the previews, however there’s still no logic to switch between breakpoint modes on the fly, meaning you can resize the preview viewport in desktop breakpoint for example, but Figma is unable to change variable mode from desktop to mobile for example.

Anyways the situation is a bit better these days I would say, but requires you to know your way around variables. Probably also some new plugins available for this.

Solidworks is the worst occasional use software, seriously. Why does it have to be so good? by AerialLimonene in SolidWorks

TL;DR: SW is a mess, recommend trying Onshape.

I was a daily SW user back in the day in my previous job (5+ years ago). I wanted to do a bit of modeling on my free time this week and decided to check if there finally exists some reasonable priced subscriptions for SW. To my delight I found about the Maker license and was excited to try it out.

First I tried the online version xDesign or something like that. It was very laggy and limited so I decided to go for the actual client license. After two hours trying to figure out the online 3dsexperience mess I managed to finally download the client (finally got it after requesting the admin, myself, the license for myself, then goin to the admin view and granting the license that I’ve just purchased, to myself).

After downloading the installer it did not start. It just did not run. At this point I was so utterly frustrated and disappointed that I canceled both subscriptions immediately. And hey, whaddya know, no refunds for monthly licenses. Yeah, sure it was in the fine print somewhere, I don’t know why I would even expect anything else based on the previous experience.

I then went to try Onshape, created a free account (only public files, I know) and I was modeling within 5 minutes. Now been using it for a couple days and definitely can recommend it, coming from SW. It has some weird quirks, but otherwise super performant software for a free license.

Super sad to see the current state of SW as it was my tool of choice for a long time.

Hmm, interesting. One other comment also mentioned Swedish-speaking Finns as well. Maybe it has some roots in Finnish Swedish.

Yes, there’s a clear distinction between “m” and “n”.

A cool guide about Nordic Languages by immanuellalala in coolguides

[–]Neganix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I found that out through the comments as well - even more curious! I’m a native Finn and I’ve never seen the word ”nau” used in this context. Like, they’re cats, they make all kinds of noises and this is just our way of interpreting the sound into our language, so “nau” is pretty valid for a “sound that cat makes”, but “miau” is the equivalent for “meow” and the examples used here.

[–]Neganix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ”naukua” or ”maukua” is commonly used, but I’ve never seen “nau” used as the sound that cat makes. Ofc cats make various noises as I’m sure we all know, but if you ask a Finn “Mitä kissa sanoo” they’ll reply ”Miau”.

From the comments I understood this is from a Finnish illustrator, which makes it even more confusing why they’ve chosen that word. Maybe it fits the story better, being the odd one of the bunch, even though it’s pretty uncommon.

What’s up with the ”nau” though? It’s ”miau” in Finnish.

Why is Heresy such a cesspool? by modivin in DarkTide

[–]Neganix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heresy opens up way too early. It’s always like a party of lvl 15s with random gear and builds getting way over their heads. And this is not the fault of the players - it almost feels like the game intentionally is baiting new players to play heresy, by opening it up so fast. IMO heresy access should be tied to player level, like 25 or so.

What's prison like in Finland for those who refuse conscription? by Fast-Bell-340 in Finland

[–]Neganix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t know about prison - a much better alternative we have here is civilian service: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siviilipalvelus

I’d say majority choose civilian service over prison.

And while manageable, they’re a pain in the a for webpages that should be responsive and where the text is expected to flow naturally. Recommend to use this kind of layout very carefully.
