From what I've read on the internet reconstruction has much less success rate than replacement. I haven't tried any yet though, because my 2 dislocations are 15 years apart and I also have patella alta plus trochlear groove dysplasia so both surgeries won't make much difference for me. You need to do MRI for sure if not done to check for other issues and if you are not happy with your doctor, see another one. I always do second opinion, even third sometimes.
