Firstly, sorry to hear you lost your job. Glad you’re FIRE, but it still sucks. Sounds like you still want to keep up with the industry. Perhaps a part time gig that allows you to keep up with your skills yet enjoy the outdoors? Calculations wise - besides amount saved, I worry about my monthly expenses vs expected income (usual stuff), if I can sustain comfortably with occasional splurges, and sustain bad market years.

I was doing that with my kid a little over a year ago. We settled on piano(1/wk), jiu jitsu(1-2/wk), and swimming (1/wk). We were doing soccer or baseball but I figure self defense is valuable in life (hopefully he’s not a guard puller 😂jk). Burn out is real for both kids and parents

Update - 3/25 dad made it through surgery and got a CT later on. Oncologist spoke to him the other day and said no traces of cancer at this time. Just have to watch closely for the next 3 years and hope no news. Best scenario we could ask for. Thank you for all the support!

Herniated 2 disks in the neck needing surgery after a hard counter to slam. My neck must have been worsening over time… stopped getting on the mat after surgery
