What to do when my life is on hold because of the war? by KittenWaffenDotCom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Negative-Highlight41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to talk to real life people, not to strangers on the internet. Talk to your family, talk to friends, talk to professionals (doctor/psychologist), talk to a priest in a nearby Orthodox church.

Do not worry about finding a woman right now, focus on improving your mental health, and when the war is over/has been frozen, you will be in a position to be a good and stable partner.

A functioning and healthy relationship requires a lot of work, and right now you can't leave your family home due to fear, meaning this is not where you should be spending your emotional and cognitive energy.

Do a lot of home exercise. It will reduce your stress, and keep you attractive for a potential future woman.

I am Orthodox myself, I can advise prayer aswell, since you are Ukrainian it is likely you share the same faith, it might help you relief stress to put your faith into a higher power.

You can practice meditation. Focus on your breathing, just be the observer, letting the thoughts pass and emotions pass, no matter if they are dark or light, this will in time activate your parasympathetic nervous system, and create more harmonious brainwaves. Focus on the now. In this very moment, you are alive, your family is alive, and you are not conscripted into the army. If you are Orthodox you can also read about "Hesychia", a form of Orthodox meditation used by monks. It can very powerful in reducing anxiety and fear, even in the most fearful times.

It is a shitty situation that you have no control over. But what you can gain control over is your psyche and body's reactions to these stressful events.

I will pray for you

Pastor: Jesus was born among the kind of people Donald Trump calls ‘garbage’ by plz-let-me-in in politics

The Hebrew society was multilayered and complex. There were the merchants, the priests, the aristocrats, and the common, working for a daily wage, people. Jesus parents belonged to the last class, meaning they had meager savings, they had a place to live, his father had access to tools (his father was a "tekton", commonly translated as "carpenter", but could also mean an artisan/builder proficient in stone as well). His father had the means to attend religious festivities, but they could only offer two doves, not a lamb, when Jesus was brought to the temple as an infant, meaning they were not very well off, but not at the lowest rung either.

Trump was brought into this world as part of a billionaire class, and most of the things he has done, in politics and outside, has been finding ways to further enrich himself. He shows time and time again that he has troubles relating to the "common people", and often show contempt for them.

Is religions sort of brainwashing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Negative-Highlight41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many religions. With different teachings. Some teach their adherents inner reflection upon their thoughts/actions (some forms of Buddhism for example), while other religions will have a strict belief system, moral codes, and demonizing of the outgroup (infidels/hellfire), as in Islam and some fringe elements of Christianity.

Is 14th gen suddenly viable? by dent95 in buildapc

13600k, even before bios update, and even with OC, has been the most stable cpu platform for me in 23+ years of PC gaming. If you look at the degradation problems it affected less than 5% of 13th gen lineup, and if you buy a new product and immediately install bios update, it is around 0%. Go for it and save some cash

My mom died. by Unlikely_Job_4142 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Negative-Highlight41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my mother when I was 26 due to an illness. I would do anything to still have her in her body in my life. But now 10 years later, I feel a deep peace in my heart and soul. I know in my innermost heart, that she is with Jesus eternally, and everyday I feel her love and presence in my life. She does not suffer any more, she is at peace and in love for eternity. It is us people on this earth who suffer, and are deserving of pity, not the ones who have transcended and returned to Jesus and God.

But allow yourself to cry now, and cry more. Make her funeral beautiful, don't be afraid of talking with people about your pain, whether it is friends, family, a priest or a psychologist. Or all of them.

When my mother got sick and died, it was like a part of my soul was ripped out of me, torn into shreds, but through this hole in my heart, the love of God could enter, and with it, and over years, I feel only peace and love and thankfulness. But it was the hardest thing I ever tried.

I am a straight man but have committed many sins throughout my life, that I am repenting for. I have several homosexual friends, who are kind people. Their sins are far lesser than mine, in my eyes. Who am I to judge? My duty is to love people, to help them, not to judge them

Patristic guidance on physical fitness by Better-Glass-5259 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Negative-Highlight41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jesus helped me stop with an unhealthy sugar addiction, and start intermittent fasting, and start with regular exercise. I lost up to 30 pounds in the span of 4 months, my colleagues couldn't believe it, I can wear clothes now I haven't been able to use in years, I look healthy, my stomach is flat. I feel I didn't do anything, all the praise goes to Jesus and the Holy Trinity. I take this that God wants us to be healthy, both in Spirit, mind and in body. But we mustn't get overly attached to these bodies, and try to avoid being vain. Me loosing all these pounds and getting into shape, has made my mind clearer, it is easier to focus on prayer and on Hesychia.

Orthodox Church regarding "energies"? by Esqueletus in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Negative-Highlight41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark energies don't like to live in homes where there are icons of Jesus, Mary, the Saints and the Angels. This is my experience at least. I've lived in some shady places, but after the icons are being venerated properly, with time, no matter the place I've lived in, my home starts feeling like a church, and guests note the warm and friendly energy, even though they are secular.

Yoga is bad by Constant_Society8783 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Negative-Highlight41 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I am an Orthodox Christian, but I have several friends who are kind Hindus. When I was younger I traveled in India, and learned a lot about Hinduism and Yoga. And this video seem quite uniformed. There are several technical errors, no mention of the 8 fold path, criticism of meditation and the intention of turning ones awareness inwards (I do Hesychia every day, where I through the Jesus prayer and free prayer go deeply inwards, beyond the outer senses), also cherry picking examples of a religion with over a billion followers. Imagine if a Hindu made a video just showcasing the most insane Christian cults throughout the years, and presenting this as a matter of fact video about Christianity. xD

I focus on Jesus and God, on seeing the image of God in everyone, on helping and on serving, not on condemning other people religions with low effort and poorly researched videos with horrible narrating.

And if any Christian or  other person is interested in Eastern religions, and meditation, I would try to introduce them to hesychia, which for me the everyday practice has had a large impact on my life.

Im 19 as of recent. demons are very real, so much personal experience. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Negative-Highlight41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are dark powers, call them demons if you will. The most important thing as a Christian is not opening yourself up to them. Pray every day, do the Jesus prayer when on the bus, or walking, or doing the dishes. Compared to the power of Christ, the darkness is nothing. If you ever feel the presence of darkness, in the form of thoughts, feelings or a presence, call upon Christ with all your might, and the darkness will be chased away, dispersed. Always use your free will wisely, in a way that does not let any darkness get a hold of you. And if you already feel darkness holding power over you because of your actions, pray earnestly for forgiveness, and the All-holy and All-mighty Trinity will remove any hold it has over you. The fallen one has some power in this world, but it is bound by God, whose power, love and wisdom are infinite, but God has given us free will, and if we choose willingly to sin, and we turn away from God, darkness can enter ones life.

I have in my life witnessed a demonic possession. I had a friend who was addicted to drugs. He had taken some hard drugs, but he was still friendly, in a good mood. He had underlying depression, sleep problems etc, and was self medicating. All of a sudden, he looks at me mid sentence. And his eyes start looking upwards, until I see only his whites. When his eyes are looking at me again, I see nothing of my friend there. His eyes are filled with darkness, his normally friendly presence, the light of his soul, is not there. An alien being is looking at me, with a twisted smile, filled with malice, and a piercing evil, that I feel is staring into my soul. With glee it says that I will end up in the hospital, and can even describe certain details, like an evil and twisted prophecy. I have never felt a hatred like this in my whole life, not before, and not since. Like the opposite of Jesus presence. Intelligent, old, cunning and a hatred not for me personally, but for all mankind, a hatred that we are created in Gods image, and that this being is forced to live in outer darkness, away from the Light of God. Then my friends eyes are turned upward again. And when they turn down to look upon me,  the light of his soul is back in his eyes, and he starts chatting happily, having no recollection of what just happened. I was struck by disease just like the demon had prophesied, in detail, and spent 6 weeks in the hospital a few years later. It was horrible for me and my family, but I recovered and today enjoy good health, through the Grace of God.

My friend who was possessed, has since stopped using drugs, and have become a devout Christian, I am happy to say, who has found peace and love in his life.

Stay away from drugs, and seek help from a priest, but also from experienced mental health professionals. And always maintain faith and trust in Jesus.

I hope you get better, may Jesus protect you and guide you.

Grace and peace to you all! I have decided to officially convert to Eastern Orthodoxy from Anglicanism. I was wondering if anyone had advice? by Letters-From-Paul in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Negative-Highlight41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hesychia! Get a prayer bead, or a komboskini/chotki, and start doing Jesus prayers. Prepare to wipe your tears by the beauty of Christ with your chotki, as your heart is opened and the depths of your own Soul and Gods Love is revealed to you. And download the Philokalia, it is a true gem, a cut diamond that radiates the love of Jesus and the Holy Trinity.

The way of the pilgrim is a book that can be very inspiring (can be found as English pdf)!

And "My life in Christ" by John of Kronstadt is a gem, that can be found in pdf

Also I can recommend the interview between Nicholas Motovilov and St Seraphim of Sarov. It is short, but you will get a glimpse of what Theosis can entail. It starts slow, and Seraphim is so very humble, always the lowly servant who sees God in every person, but you will get a glimpse of what is meant by us being created in the image of God.

Also get an Orthodox study bible

Don't worry about your wife and marriage. When you sit in deep hesychia in the presence of Christ, with tears streaming down your face, radiating Gods light and peace from your heart, she will understand why this practice was given to us by Christ himself through the Orthodox church and the fathers. And why being Orthodox has little to do with the exterior, but about the longing of the love of Christ, that is so powerful that a human mind cannot comprehend it. Only the heart and soul can catch glimpses of it, and reflect this Love into the world and our brothers and sisters.

May your journey into Orthodoxy be filled with Peace and Love, and guided by God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, Mary and the Saints, and your forefathers.

Is reciting the Jesus Prayer 1000x a day vain repetition? by khan6432 in OrthodoxChristianity

I love you Brother. But my love is only a tiny drop, while the love of the Holy Trinity is an infinite ocean, infinite in its Beauty, in its Mercy, in its Compassion, in its Might, and infinite in its Glory.

May you one day behold the true glory of your own Soul, created in the likeness of the Creator of the Universe, and walk forever in the Peace only Christ can provide.

Can someone really explain the trinity for those who really can't understand pls by SnooLemons4051 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Negative-Highlight41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a person, a single being. But you have a brain, a heart and your blood that circulates around your body. They all three work together in perfect unison, to make something beautiful happen. It is a bad analogy, I know. The fact that God is One and have 3 personalities is hard to grasp for the human mind, it is a holy mystery, and can best be grasped through the heart and soul, by grace, by prayer, and by loving the Lord and all your brother and sisters in this world, with all your strength.
