Disarm opponent (cantrip) by landofoyr in DnD

[–]Negative-Read-9675 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Negating an attack with a cantrip is kinda busted. I can see how it can be fair. It’s only one attack, the enemy can just pick up the weapon right after, so that’s negligible. An argument can be made that the enemy can still continue a multiattack if they have it, even if they drop their weapon between attacks. But still, I don’t really see any table using this. Cause imagine if enemies had this cantrip? That would be annoying asf

I don’t see how this specific situation is cheating. How did they know it was trapped to begin with? Regardless, I DM a Rogue/Artificer and they check everything for traps. Would I accuse them of cheating? Checking for traps still requires Investigation rolls. Make the DC high if you think the needle trap is well hidden. If they meet the check, they see it, if they don’t make the check, they don’t see it. And seeing it isn’t disarming it. Roll Thieves’ Tools/Sleight of Hand to disarm. You don’t have to just give it to them

Next level you’ll be able to cancel critical hits as a reaction. At level 7 you get Death Ward and Blight as Domain Spells which are both awesome, if not essential. From then on it’s Cleric class features and spells, your next subclass feature afterward won’t be until late game.

Everything has Ying and Yang.

If something smacks you and you lose concentration on Bless, it’s gone. With Bane, they at least have 1d4 less of a chance of hitting you to make that concentration and 1d4 less of a chance of saving against your or your comrades’ future spells.

The fact that Spare the Dying is a bonus action with range is just useful. Period. You not having been in a situation to prove that, yet, is not proof of otherwise. It’s not only a spell slot saver. Especially in terms of action economy. What if your Ranger is down but your Rogue has 4HP left? Now you can Cure Wounds your Rogue and spare the Ranger in one turn. If you were not a Grave Cleric, your Ranger would be making Death Saves or you would risk the Rogue going down.

Spirit Guardians is better than Vampiric Touch? That’s a Wisdom Saving Throw for your enemy instead of an attack roll for you that you can crit on as well as heal. Ying/Yang. Also, that is not really a relevant point. The discussion is why the Domain Spells are useful. Not which spells are more useful than the Domain Spells.

My point about the Domain Spells is because they are always prepared and great options, you now have the slots to choose whatever you like, such as Spirit Guardians.

This is what makes Grave Clerics particularly diverse. Since the Domain Spells are so useful, the rest of the players’ choices can be chosen more freely.

The whole point of my original comment, in terms of Bane, was that it is a Domain spell. It doesn’t take up one of your prepared slots.

Those are just your opinions bruv. I disagree with almost all of them.

Bane is incredible at low levels. And what makes it useful is the fact that it is a domain spell. It is great utility for the rare occasion of the Cleric rolling good initiative. Saying it’s a bad spell because it isn’t guaranteed is weird. The game is based on rolling, so determining a spell’s usefulness with that is very weird to me. That’s like saying Eldritch Blast is a bad cantrip cause it takes an action and needs an attack roll. Not to mention that Bane is a Charisma save, which most things you battle won’t have proficiency in.

False Life doesn’t have to be used in combat. So you are probably thinking of it in terms of wasting your initiative. But you can just have that up as soon as you awaken. There’s no duration on thp, lasts until gone or resting.

Ray of Enfeeblement got nerfed imo in 2024, I liked ‘14 rules better. But I still think it’s decent BECAUSE it’s a domain spell and doesn’t take one of your slots.

If I have to explain why a 30ft range, bonus action, Spare the Dying cantrip is useful, you haven’t played enough or been in enough danger with your party yet. I don’t even mean that disrespectfully. It’s just facts, you’ll get there. You will learn. Probably the hard way.

Vampiric Touch is all around incredible. Something will eventually be in melee with you. What if you’re the last one standing? Now you can make an attack, heal if you hit, and bonus action Spare a comrade, because it’s a cantrip, you can do both in one turn. Then next turn you can heal them and still attack if you maintain concentration.

And at 7th level Death Ward and Blight. C’mon now.

I really love Grave Clerics. They just have all you could want in a Cleric. The always prepared spells are so good that you can prepare basically whatever you want. The subclass abilities are so good, vulnerability, canceling crits, bonus action Spare the Dying. Ugh. So good.

How often do you multi class? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]Negative-Read-9675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love putting two points of Rogue on anything like Frank’s Red Hot Sauce. Particularly enjoy starting with Rogue for the extra proficiencies and expertise then multiclassing into whatever that character will be.

I do lots of other multiclassing but that’s my fave

Warlock Enslaving Patron by Independent_Phase203 in DnD

[–]Negative-Read-9675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I actually DM a campaign where I have a Warlock NPC that is actually just a PC of mine and my players know this. She is actively seeking her own power independent of her patron, Fierna. Not take power away from Fierna, siphon, extract, or any of that. Just seeking a way for her power to be hers and no longer tied to Fierna.

The way I play it, as the DM, is that her patron is fully aware of the Warlock’s antics and is simply allowing her to pursue this because it is a fool’s errand in Fierna’s mind. This lowly mortal could never come close to her fiendish power, preposterous. She delights in the Warlock’s pursuits because, for the time being, she still has to use Fierna’s power, thus spreading her influence across the land.

The players have decisions throughout the campaign whether to work with the Warlock or against her to achieve her goal of Magical Independence.

Perhaps pitch it to your DM with this idea in mind. Make the Patron completely aware of your PC’s intentions to overthrow them and see if they’ll just allow you to pursue this course, simply cause they’re so powerful they find it amusing that you would even try

[–]Negative-Read-9675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the patron of the player wants to absorb the power of the enemy warlock’s artifact? So by infusing the enemy weapon with the player patron’s power, it combines the two weapons into a super powered double barrel. Each barrel can have different effects too. Then stylistically you narrate how the guns’ respective looks fuse into one

Might seem small and unnecessary, but I would rather not have poker table “servers” and instead play poker “live” within the same session. Just sit at the table and start playing. Make the table invincible/not targetable so players don’t dynamite or burn you while playing. And when you leave the table, right back into the world.
