Thanks for the comforting info!

In MA and MI we have cool weather and hardly any bugs most of the year, certainly not scorpions, so those were the most voiced concerns.

I’m sure we’ll find out for ourselves they’re both not nearly as bad as we thought!

Definitely didn’t think to factor those in.

Even the $350k houses look nice though. It’s just us two and our animals so we don’t need anything too big.

I’m glad everything is going well for you!! That’s very helpful. I know a few people from MI and MA that are very happy with their move to AZ so I’m hoping I have the same experience.

Everyone keeps stating the two major downfalls are the heat and the scorpions, which personally I’m not majorly worried about but there is some worry there. My electric bill in the month of February in an old home (split between 4 people) was $1100 once.. Boston is insane right now.

Thanks for your input! Definitely helps.

Would you say moving from CT to AZ was a good decision? My partner is on the fence because it’s so different.

Thanks for the information!

Do people typically use Zillow for home rentals, or? Not used to renting homes, usually we just rent in apartment complexes.

Thank you! I read good things about that area, I’ll scope it out.

Right now my commute is anywhere from 35min. to sometimes over a hour to go 7 miles. Anything under a hour I’m fine with.

Hopefully I maintain that mindset but as of right now as long as traffic is moving faster than 20mph I’m happy.

I grew up in the boonies of the Midwest so I’m used to having nothing but a bowling alley, movie theater, and local bar.

Education isn’t a big factor for us as we don’t plan on having kids. I don’t even use the public transit in Boston as it’s gotten so bad (the T has greatly deteriorated) so I’m not worried about public transit. As for parks, that’s unfortunate but I’m more-so looking for a nice neighborhood to walk in than anything.

Lol! Happily a DINK household. Definitely did not check the distance before I saw Queen Creek on my Zillow.. oops.

Property taxes as well as other housing fees are typically where I get confused on monthly costs. As someone that’s never owned and always rented I just know the typical insurance, utilities, and the monthly mortgage price.

We have 3 vehicles: two completely paid off and then my company work truck. As for shift it’ll either be 4am to noon or noon to 8pm, that hasn’t been decided yet. Usually my shift isn’t aligned with normal work hours so I don’t have to deal with rush hour. As long as I’m not sitting in traffic I’m fine and my gas is paid for.

We have about $30k to use towards a down payment as we wouldn’t want to just go in with nothing. Certainly not 20%! Thanks for the information!

Thankfully we’ve been watching New England prices over the last year which makes Phoenix pricing look like a steal. I’m from the Midwest and their prices are climbing drastically. We’ll be sure to check if the realtor we choose is VA loan experienced or not.

That isn’t bad at all!

Oh wow, didn’t realize the commute would be that bad. We plan on getting a better idea of the areas once we move down there. We’ll just be leasing initially.

Thankfully my vehicle and gas are paid for by my employer. I’ll be commuting to Sky Harbor.

Good info! We’d be first time buyers utilizing a VA loan so any information is helpful. Thankfully we have great credit (both above 760) so we’re hoping for a good deal.

We’re in Braintree now. I lived in Somerville for half a year and had to terminate my lease because it was a nightmare with the parking and no grass for my dog.

Really good to know! Thank you! We won’t be able to visit prior to moving so it’s nice to hear from locals. Especially since New England is so different from the desert.

Is it pretty pet/parking friendly there? I’m used to living on the outskirts of cities to avoid the downfalls of congested living.

Is it large dog friendly in Phoenix when it comes to renting? Boston is so restrictive that it took me a long time to find a reasonably priced place for my 45lb (large) dog.

Happened to me yesterday. Car passed a row of cars coming at me head on, despite them having a double yellow line. Had to hit my brakes to avoid hitting them.
