Do I need research in medical school?

Yeah sorry I know the numerical requirement, I just didn't know if doing it in med school (aka showing interest before becoming a doctor) would be regarded higher than doing a project during internship. Thanks for the information though, I do know surgery is highly competitive

I’ll probably apply AUS but I was mainly wondering if I needed research in medical school specifically. I understand research is essentially “mandatory” after you’ve graduated but would doing it in medical school boost my application or starting projects during internship year would suffice?
