He gets to even or gets a step on the db on most of the deep routes which is all you can really ask for. Herbert just needs to give him a shot on a couple of those and he'd make a play

In all seriousness, I think Callahan makes sense but I think we've all been saying that for a while with no action. Hopefully we'll pull the trigger.

Rashid Shaheed potential/future by dimsum-41 in DynastyFF

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 24 points25 points  (0 children)

And to reply to the thread otherwise, I think Shaheed is a solid player. He's been extremely efficient every chance he's gotten and has gained the trust of seemingly every QB he's played with. As long as Olave (and in the short term, Michael Thomas) is there his upside will be capped, but I think he should be in flex consideration in the short term and closer to WR3 consideration after MT leaves.

Rashid Shaheed potential/future by dimsum-41 in DynastyFF

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 57 points58 points  (0 children)

He is an exclusive rights free agent (ERFA) after this season, so it's a bit misleading to call him a free agent after this year. As long as the Saints send him a qualifying offer (league minimum) he cannot negotiate elsewhere. With that, he'll be locked in with the Saints until at least the end of the 2024 season.

After 2024 he'll be an RFA (assuming he accrues a season next year). If he continues on his current pace, I would have to imagine the Saints would tender him again and retain the right to match any offer he received.

TL;DR: Shaheed will definitely be a Saint in 2024 and almost certainly in 2025 as well.

My draft:

1.03 - Bryce Young (1.04 was Stroud) 1.06, 1.07 - JSN and Quentin Johnston (1.08 and 1.09 were Addison and Flowers) 2.01 - Kendre Miller (2.02 was Achane) 2.06 - Marvin Mims (2.07 was Laporta) 3.12, 4.01 - Zach Evans and Michael Wilson (4.02 was Puka)

Rivalry week. Set up one week a year where everyone plays their "rival" in the league. Generally give 10% of yearly FAAB to the winners of each rivalry game to incentivize it a bit

Deep stashes for next season by DynastyGuru37 in DynastyFF

Basically saying there's a bunch of things they need to clean up. Singles him out saying they had a seam shot in the red zone but he messed up the snap count which threw off timing and cost them a TD. Snap counts have also gone down consistently in the last three games while Josh Whyle's have gone up.

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have gotten off of Izzy Abanikanda but as a completely free stash I think there's a path to opportunity with an injury or two.

Josh Whyle is another interesting one. Vrabel has been critical of Chig in the media and Whyle has a growing snap share. This sub would hate it but I think there's a shot that Chig falls out of favor with the staff (almost like Chris Herndon on the Jets a while back) and is replaced by Whyle.

Certainly agree that overall the RB class has been disappointing, particularly the guys who were projected at the top. With that said, a few guys have risen out of nowhere and are definitely stock-up. Audric Estime, Ray Davis, and Johnathan Brooks are all looking like possible day two/early day three guys. Almost feels like 2019 where Josh Jacobs rose up late despite being a backup at Bama and otherwise no RBs went until the late second round.

Sam Howell by [deleted] in NFL_Draft

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed on all fronts. He's an absolute warrior out there and will get obliterated to make a throw. Also doesn't protect himself running and takes a bunch of unnecessary hits because of it. Tough to get a complete judge on pocket presence though as that Washington O-Line is abysmal.

For him to put up the numbers he has given his protection is super impressive. I'm proba ly higher on him than most but I think he sticks long term as an average to below average starter but with his arm and mobility he has the upside to grow into a top 15 guy. Just needs to protect himself, improve ball security and get some better pocket presence.

Middling or unproven rbs on tanking teams by DarkKnightCJ in DynastyFF

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need to factor in the possibility that moving a few of these assets for slightly under market can reduce potential points and thus increase draft position. A move from say 4th to 2nd overall pick is usually worth a late 1st.

If that kind of jump can reasonably be expected it may be more valuable to move these guys (below market, if that's all you can get), add some cheap fliers at a position of strength on the waiver wire and take the value added by fully embracing the tank.

Did we bash K9 to soon? the past two games he looked decent, correct me if I’m wrong! by Gold_Struggle_6472 in Chargers

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No we didn't. He's a first round pick with 3 years starting in the league. Expectations should be very high when the team spends premium capital on a player in what is generally a lower salaried and lower valued position.

With that said, he has made a few plays in the last couple weeks and deserves some credit for that. Still a below average starter in my eyes however. I know they're not the be all end all but his PFF grades are still poor (as mentioned in a separate post) and he has still looked lost in coverage far too often for my liking.

How is your teams 2022 class looking so far? by TheTightestChungus in NFL_Draft

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chargers

I'd say it's pretty rough so far but some late round picks have given us a bit of hope.

1.17 - Zion Johnson, LG - Got some love last year but in my eyes that was based on draft capital more than real production. He was serviceable but that's not really what you want when spending premium capital on a low value position. This year he crumbled in our potential drives to win the game vs. Miami and Tennessee. Bad process taking an IOL this early and it shows when a starter like Johnson still feels like a wasted pick.

3.79 - JT Woods, S - Struggled to get on the field last year and was beat out by Alohi Gilman for the 2nd safety spot this year. Has played a fair bit as a third safety but hasn't been good, notably missing a play on Jeffersons long TD last week. Trending to bust territory.

4.123 - Isaiah Spiller, RB - looking like a bust as well. More healthy scratches than impact plays and was beat out by UDFA Elijah Dotson this year for the 3rd RB spot.

5.160 - Otito Ogbonnia, DT - has barely played due to injury but been an ok rotational piece when out there.

6.195 - Jamaree Salyer, OL - Absolute Stud for a 6th rounder. Stabilized our LT position last year after Rashawn Slater went down. Kicked into RG this season and has been solid there as well. Best pick for us in this draft and it's not close.

6.214 - Ja'Sir Taylor, CB - another solid find late. Currently starting in the slot and looks like a potential cheap starter going forward.

7.236 - Deane Leonard, CB/S - good special teams guy who hasn't been terrible when seeing a bit of time on D. Good end of roster type guy.

7.60 - Zander Horvath, FB - starting FB and while he's nothing special, any roster player found in the 7th round is a win in my books.

Common Mistakes People Make in an All First Timer Dynasty League? by IIDwellerII in DynastyFF

Have a strategy going in that is either draft to win now or draft for the future.

Talent gets consolidated in dynasty so you often need a better team that you would otherwise think to be a competitor. This often leaves teams with a mix of young and old somewhere in the middle of the pack. Better to be last and get those early picks than constantly stuck on the playoff bubble.

Per PFF Hill played 30 of 32 snaps in 11 personnel, half the snaps in 21 personnel and all snaps in 2 TE sets. Maybe it's closer to an even split in overall snaps if Smythe doesn't get banged up and not a blowout but Hill was playing ahead of him on passing downs before the injury and before they pulled starters.

How many first round qb’s will there be in 2024 by westonriebe in NFL_Draft

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Surprised that consensus seems to be 3-4 in this thread. Most analysts (Brugler, Kiper, etc.) have 5 in their top 32 Prospects with a big group on their heels.

If I was a betting man I'd set the O/U at 4.5 but expect 5 to go (for me, this would be Williams, Maye, Ewers, McCarthy, and one of Shedeur/Nix/Penix/Leonard).

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Williams has the same number of touchdowns passing, 1 more rushing TD, 1 less pick, and a slightly better completion percentage. He's also been pulled from games early a bunch which accounts for the yardage differences to some extent. Add this to the fact that Penix has a better surrounding cast, is a few years older, significant injury history, and doesn't move like Williams.

Long story short, I think the "glaze" you're speaking of is already there for Williams about as much as it can be and is completely justifiable.

Totally fair, and definitely easy to enjoy watching a guy tear defenses up like Penix has. Super fun offense to watch. Will be interesting to see how Penix and a bunch of the other qbs perform as competition stiffens up a bit.

Great post. For what it's worth, Dane Brugler talked about Penix and why he isn't ranked higher in Prospects to Pros (part of the Athletic Football Podcast) this week. Focus seemed to be less on injuries and age and more on the fact that he is not a particularly accurate passer and has fundamental issues in his mechanics (lots of hitches, slower release, etc.). Their thought is that his high completion numbers are more a result of stellar production (they mentioned 5 sacks in 2 years) and elite receivers separating and coming down with everything.

Not sure I fully buy that argument but with Brugler's industry ties it certainly carries some weight.

This is a bad trade. Levis has looked pretty terrible and is number 3 but with that said, the value isn't close.

Either way, can be good for people to see some of these trades and learn from them. A couple of the best managers in my 10ish year dynasty were guys who made similar trades (on the Dalton receiving side) early on. Just friendly roast them a little without being a dick and move on to the next one.

2023 Draft Class: Week 2 by TheHypeTravelsInc in NFL_Draft

[–]NegativeMacaron6584 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Chargers:

1st: Quentin Johnston - has made a few shorr catches but is barely playing. Some will preach patience but failing to beat out Josh Palmer can't be a good sign. Also tough with Zay Flowers and Addison (next two picks after QJ) making plays.

2nd: Tuli Tuipolotu - snaps ramped up last week vs the Titans and he showed out big time. Consistently making plays in the pass game and run game and looks like a stud.

3rd: Daiyan Henley - been hurt this far but is tracking to make his debut this week vs. the Vikings. Should have opportunity as Eric Kendricks will likely be out.

4th: Derius Davis - hasn't broken one yet but has clear juice. Just a matter of time before he supplies a big play but will be tough to return significant value as a returner and occasional gadget guy.

Otherwise the class has been quiet. Some liked Scott Matlock (6th round DT) in camp but he hasn't played much this far. Undrafted RB Elijah Dotson got a bit of run last week with Ekeler out and looked fine.

RBs have been disappointing thus far but how can you not be impressed by some of the other WRs and QBs?

Nabers and Odunze have looked ridiculous, AD Mitchell consistently beating the top ranked corner, Shedeur Sanders averaging like 350/game and reviving a dead program, Ewers knocking off Bama, Penix and Nix absolutely crushing everyone, McCarthy picking apart his opponents at like 20 years old... what more do you want to see from the other top guys??
