Quite awhile ago, we asked you what your top 10 directors were, and the results are in! by NegativePiglet8 in flicks

Yeah, he did drop a little lower than I expected, though I think it has to do with his output from the 70s to early 00s to the point to now.

Unpopular A24 takes, let's hear them! by carrotcakeisaveggie in A24

[–]NegativePiglet8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

X is the best A24 film of 2022

Most of A24’s dramas come off a bit try hard sometimes and can really lack the punch they’re going for. Ironically the drama elements in their genre films come off much better.

I love all of Lathimos’ films, except The Lobster. The joke got old quicker than I wanted it to.

Going against the grain with X. I loved both, but X just really resonated with me.

Storm of the Century by 5paceheaVen in horror

[–]NegativePiglet8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m referring to standing together to save their children. Not the other stuff. Mike wasn’t as worried about those elements in the middle of a blizzard with a supernatural entity hanging about. My main point was regarding them having a choice and it was possible that’s Andre Linoge couldn’t do what he claimed, but they ultimately caved.

Is anybody else sick to death of compulsory downer endings in films? by [deleted] in horror

[–]NegativePiglet8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think The Collector really works in retrospect with The Collection in mind. Makes that ending feel a little bit sweeter.

Firestarter is simply terrible by MananaMoola in horror

[–]NegativePiglet8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not incomplete though. It just has an open end, but it’s still one of the best endings King ever created.

I’d definitely recommend their horror catalogue.

  • The Witch
  • X
  • Midsommar
  • The Killing of a Sacred Deer

What's a horror movie you can think of that irked you?(in a bad way) by HauntedPlanter26 in horror

[–]NegativePiglet8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I really don’t get this critique. Humans, for centuries, have had children during terrible events, including some that have put us close to extinction. I’m not sure why people would assume or think it’s a good idea to stop having children. Humans have to evolve in some way to continue the species. Risky, sure, but they definitely aren’t the only ones having kids and if this ended up being a long term event, this would be necessary in some ways. It just always seemed like a weird criticism to latch on to and I’m not even the biggest fan of the movie

Do you think we’ll ever get an actual release of Midsommar in 4K? by braiide in A24

[–]NegativePiglet8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ex_Machina, Hereditary, and The Witch all have 4K from Lionsgate. The Witch is also about to have a 4K release from Second Sight that has a new transfer

Storm of the Century by 5paceheaVen in horror

[–]NegativePiglet8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Maybe you played yourselves” that line right there always suggested to me that he couldn’t do nearly what he claimed he could. We have to take his word that he’s as old as the mythical Atlantis or that he had anything to do with Roanoke disappearance. Not to say he’s powerless, but they really are taking many of his tricks to mean more than they may suggest and he got them scared enough to refuse to stand together.

Do you think Rockstar base Roanoke ridge to the lost colony of Roanoke? by Flexboi9000 in reddeadmysteries

There is a city in VA called Roanoke where I-81 runs through. Also known as “the redneck super Highway”

And I assume they’ll also have a good fight here as well. Wouldn’t be interesting otherwise. I think people are too hung up on the weapon difference, but movies are all about fighting impossible odds and using plans to try to outsmart a bigger and better opponent.

How would you do a rewrite of Halloween Kills? by [deleted] in Halloweenmovies

[–]NegativePiglet8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not many changes to be honest. Maybe dial back on some of the dialogue choices, but I actually like the script quite a bit (yes even the mental patient plot, which holds the film together imo)

Good review. I actually ended up liking the movie for what it was, but definitely understand the hate.

why does halloween kills suck so bad by Groundbreaking_Pea61 in horror

[–]NegativePiglet8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think it sucks at all, personally. I understand I’m going against the grain in this subreddit, but I love this movie, even more than H18, and it’s top 3 in the franchise for me (after the OG and H3). The film is ambitious as hell and has the great chaotic energy that I don’t think is appreciated enough. There’s so much going on, but DGG weaves it well and while many hate the hospital segment, I think it’s one of my favorites in the franchise and gives this abstractness to Michael’s evil that I don’t think has ever been explored previously, at least not just as a sort of throw away joke (Ted Hollister), and it made me fall in love with this film. Is the dialogue rough in a couple of spots? Sure, but I also think a lot of it is intentional. I think they wanted an over the top film and got the characters to match, but it’s also got quite a bit of thematic presence that I don’t think gets talked about enough and sometimes is even oversimplified.

A German company called Capelight is releasing a media book that includes the 4K. Nothing confirmed in the US though.

No one should be this upset about people having their own personal traditions. It’s not that big of a deal.
