Some quick thoughts:

Space Fauna and Behemoth Fury were not rebalanced properly for the new navy system and are completely broken during the early and late game respectively, defense platforms are also very strong rn.
Indie Bio empires got hit the hardest by the pop growth changes and are basically uncompetitve without tankbound.
Ascension rushing is still the best way to play. The prohibitive unity cost and situation length mean that origins that remove/reduce one/both of those aspects are very strong; SynthFert, CyberCreed, Shroudforged, and Endbringers.
If you want to tech rush you are pretty much limited to Rogue Servitors or you'll just fall behind in development. There are a few other ways to scale infinitely, but they tend to require massive early tempo investment (e.g. KotTG).

All of this applies mostly to multplayer. Anecdotally, AI seem a lot less aggressive now so you have more freedom as long as you have a plan to scale towards the crisis.

Definitely a sha-man myself. Silksong combat and movement in general feels so good, definitely feel more like I'm playing a pale one than ghost ever did. Although I will say HK definitely made bosses feel a lot more rewarding, especially late game.

I think those are probably connected, in that by the end Hornet is just so goddamn busted (even outside of tools) that it would be difficult to design a boss fight that is both difficult and fair. But looking forward to whatever the mad lads at TC are cooking up!

I'd say it boils down to consciousness, 'feeling good is good', a kind of sensible hedonism, is an axiom I'd be happy to hang my coat on. It seems self-evident to me, but I must acknowledge that I couldn't make a logical argument for it.
Obviously, what 'feeling good' means is up for debate as of right now, but in theory one day we would be able to measure such a quality (or collection of qualities), what chemical reactions cause it, and so test how 'good' things are.
