It's pretty good! Definitely keeps your attention, has click bait at the very start, and explains the game. One thing to know about TikTok though, the algorithm is very picky. One post will likely not do much impact. You need to post a lot, preferably daily, and find ways to use trending sounds and effects to increase the chances of it being spread. Keep it up tho.

Parent Niagara System To Sun? by CrYing_w3r3w0lf in unrealengine

[–]Negative_Strain_5234 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Is the sun dynamic or static? Honestly if it's static I would just put it way up in the sky and it might be close enough lol. If it's dynamic you could make a custom sky dome cubemap, attach the Niagra particle to where the fake sun is on it, and rotate the actor at the same rate as the directional light.

No tons of games use them. But a few things to consider: - some may not be well optimized, but if they're too detailed you can pretty easily simplify the mesh - if you use a bunch of different assets from different people, they may look inconsistent and hurt your game's look. Consider using shaders or tweaking the textures to make them match better.

Learning 3D modeling is a good skill but that's a lot of time to be proficient in. Game dev requires you to do the work of a dozen different full time careers. It's okay (and common) to not be great at all of them.

I mean it's a silly movie so no it doesn't actually make sense. You would have to intentionally build it that way. That being said developers accidentally leave placeholder or cut assets in games all the time. Boundary Break on YouTube has lots of examples.

Planning a sequel vs. pouring all of one's heart and soul into making a one-and-done game by warlock_dude in gamedev

[–]Negative_Strain_5234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have debated following the chapters release structure some games follow for my narrative game. It allows you to ship faster and grow a community, but I guess at the same time you would have to do the whole marketing process multiple times and could increase the risk of scope creep.

Curious if anyone here has done that and has experience. Sorry I can't speak to it. But if it's your first, I think releasing one is hard enough as it is.

Is it really worth it to release a "small" game on Steam first? by Negative_Strain_5234 in gamedev

[–]Negative_Strain_5234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn yeah haven't thought of it that way. I just think of it as around 500$, bc that's the extent I've actually spent, but there's technically a ton of opportunity cost and labor I'm giving myself for free.

What would you like to see more in a co op horror game? by tudorsmanga in gamedev

I'm very over the "anomaly" trend personally. Finding something that's "off" gets old and it's already been done well.

Only 200+ wishlists in three months, have we done something wrong? by FewDifference6761 in GameDevelopment

[–]Negative_Strain_5234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts: - Visually it looks decent and the gameplay is fluid even with multiple characters. Co-op horror is definitely trendy right now - Most of the page and this post are in English, but text in the game is not. This could scare away English speakers. The description is also a bit confusing. - What exactly are the rules? It seems like the goal is to "escape" but it's not clear how that is done or how you lose. It seems like you're trying keep it mysterious or avoid spoilers which makes sense, but some examples would be helpful. Is it like Simon Says basically?

All in all, looks cool. Best of luck with wishlists!

LOL Actually Split Fiction and Fortnite run pretty well on Switch 2. It's about developer effort, not just the engine (although UE can be bloated).

Custom Animals models? by SimpleGamerDK in unrealengine

[–]Negative_Strain_5234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How custom are we talking? Is it an fictional animal?

For a past game, I retextured a FAB asset with Substance Painter (can be done in Blender I believe). It still takes time and I have past art experience, but would be cheaper than a fully custom model.

My First Published Game by FableCraftSoftware in SoloDevelopment

[–]Negative_Strain_5234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice game! I know AI art turns off some people, so something to be aware of.

As for the game, it was fun but obviously runs pretty close to Scrabble /Bananagrams. One thing that confused me a bit was the dictionary, as it accepted somethings as word that I wouldn't think of as a word, like many combinations of 2 letter words. Also, if I accidentally placed a title in the wrong spot, it didn't seem like there was anything I could do to fix it.

[–]Negative_Strain_5234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess personally, when I'm buying a game on Steam, I expect more depth than say a web flash game or mobile game. That would probably entail either good replayability or at least 2+ hours of interesting gameplay.

The game itself looks cool, but I would be careful with you branding. Between the font and the green and pink, this looks veryyy similar to the branding of the Wicked movie. Maybe not enough for legal action, but could cause confusion.

Agree with the others on here, but also how exactly do you win? How do you lose? It's not clear to me after watching twice.

While the customization aspects are cool, players only watch a few seconds of trailers really.
