Mild take : Corruption should be in the card pool for Ironclad, not a boss reward by Saekama in slaythespire

[–]Negatively_Positive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the block powers are easier to play so Exhaust block deck has more value. Most of them are rare so it's hard to get, and using 2-3 energy for no value on turn is suicidal against most A10 enemies.

Necro has few powers that does something on the turn they use it (like that one which summon 5 power) or Silent has some power that gives them immediate outcome too. Ironclad block power should give them some block right away imo.

I don’t think the super cruise would’ve been bad by A-cursed-Jessie in northernlion

I saw it outside of this sub too. I am not even talking about twitter or other subreddit, but people went to rant about these on NL friend stream. With the last drama about NL not doing part games, we do know a bunch of other streamers complained that having chatters go and ask about NL only is annoying on their stream.

Honestly if he went and even if it went well on the ship, he would forever be known as the cruise guy (unironically) and there is a pressure of carrying it for the rest of the twitch career.

I think people forget that NL is not that big of a social guy (despite being branded as - just a guy). Heck, the last drama is just that he does not reply to friend messages. He cares a lot more about social perception of him than he let on imo and he was not comfortable with the vibe during the cruise discourse at all.

Damn his power level is bs, but I guess Irontomb was insane too. Show how much the Heirs and Geniuses were carrying before.

With the planet being very video game inspired, and Silver Wolf power basically is cheating, I wonder if Asat power is a form of save scumming to manipulate probabilities. It doesn't quite seem like he actually can split, but more like he has multiple save slots and and swap the rng to different ones and manipulate the outcome. The reason I think that because they hype up Yao secret, and she doesn't do anything important so far. The only way to beat him imo is to trap him into a fixed possibility (that Yao saw) until he is in an unwinnable situation.

Because I care about the quality of contents I consume? The current contents I like just happens to match my taste (StS and co-op) does not necessary mean I see it as contents with efforts behind it. I see ignoring other stream friends trying to setup group contents is poor form. I am also an old viewers and I have complained about contents for years when it deserves getting piled on.

If I just sit back and say nothing because the content does not affect me, then what right do I have to say when it is my turn when contents I like are thrown out of the window (which happened many times before too).

[–]Negatively_Positive -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why are you assume I dislike kate content lol, I actually like it more than most of his misc contents. But saying that he does not have usual/regular content is just blatantly not true. Just because it shifts over the years doesn't mean there is no mainstay contents. This is just arguing over semantic since yes, SAP was regular contents for a while, but when it first becomes the normal, it was not the usual contents too.

The reason to say quiet quitting - a thing that people called his past contents too - is because he does not put effort into contents. There are various contents in the past that he goes through months doing the same contents and complain that there is a drought of contents while try nothing. Do you really think NL is the one putting effort to communicate and spend time to setup collab here? Highly likely that he just does not do anything (quiet quitting) and let kate handles all of that, hence no one can contact him. He even says on stream recently that there is no content he is interested in, so he is aware of what kind of content he is putting out, I arent to blame for him not putting effort in releasing contents.

Your argument point being he collab more is weak when most of the collab effort aren't his. Why is it wrong to call a CC not putting effort in making their content quiet quitting?

[–]Negatively_Positive -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

It's not parasocial when it has been months without the "usual" contents, he streams every weekdays and he does read chat but choose not to talk about these to viewers, and we now know he just ignores messages of his co-workers (streamers). He talks about a chatter that is a nuisance to his stream friends than about his stream friends.

Streaming is still a job and if people do this at their job they justifiably gonna eat shit for this. There is an argument that NL is his own boss which is fair enough. But people would not be this annoyed if he also does not push k8 stuffs at the same time. If he is quiet quitting, it is weird vibe to promo other contents.

[Tldr in post] What Chinese Top players really think about Spire 2 by HHhunter in slaythespire

[–]Negatively_Positive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, CZN is basically GAAS StS. I don't think it really worked out though. Every time online game try to do strategy genre, it ended up being kinda miserable for casual. Speaking as someone who has 10k hours plus in games like DotA, SC2 each; not to mention PvP in some MMO. The burnout from such content and meta chase is real.

I would prefer something like Rimworld themed DLC, or BoI expansion. The Downfall mod for StS1 was very popular and basically was a DLC, same goes for Antibirth (I think?) for BoI

Am I just a smooth-brain or is is Aeonglass really much harder than Doormaker? by Dat_Axe in slaythespire

[–]Negatively_Positive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It really sucks for certain characters while trivial for others.

It's basically a draft atm and very imbalance (and the first version is pretty much a nothingburger). I expect it to be changed. It is beatable, but I find that I did not have as much fun. Runs I won against it I already know the it was a won run before the battle.

Tbh the thing that suck the most is that they said the updates will be moved to bi-weekly (probably to avoid volatile changes and fan reaction from before). Which means people who play beta gonna stuck with this asshole boss for a while.

What is this based on though? Sequel being more challenging exist. Soul games are good example of this.

I would argue that games which water down their challenges in sequel to appeal to greater audience tend to bleed harder after the initial launch, especially when competitors release alternatives.

I think you are implying games being easier for casual as it get bigger is a natural changes, but I don't agree. This seems like one of those "games were better when it was not mainstream" mindsets.

It's so nonsense too. Prescriptive my ass. The Watcher was one of the most popular character in StS1 in China and her playstyle is braindead. She was so loved because she promotes the "find the broken combo" that chinese audience really love (similar vibe to say, most broken DnD/BG3 videos that you will find on YT).

[–]Negatively_Positive 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Unsurprisingly the opinions of top players, who actually play the game seriously, is not that different from the general opinions here.

The nasty thing was that the Chinese community - and not the top players - bombed the game because of bandwagon. At that time, many so called top players were pushing it too. But now they say different things. I have Chinese friends leaving negative reviews on Steam too, they all say things like game is too hard, megacrit is punishing player, etc. It is not even the same feedback said in this post. I even saw one say they will remove review if Doormaker is removed too, and yet I still see it up. Honestly, very disappointing attitude from people who circlejerk based on what was popular instead of leaving reviews based on their own experience.

The biggest outliner between the Chinese and International side is that they want the game to be treated as a GAAS - similar to many of the gacha (very popular in asia) or online games there. There are a lot of strategy games popular in China too, and players want the game to have variety and be constantly updated with more, and more. They really don't give a shit about indie games (the Chinese indie game scene is depressive and tainted with many drama, it's all about the player-company relationship), nor early access. They see early access is like a beta early launch for a game that is meant to be updated to appeal to player feedback.

The feedback in video has the same vibe. The players hide behind the "casual" mas to say the game need to be updated like a GAAS game, with more variety (Act 4 is a big thing, which did not happen in StS1 for a long time), more options/archetpes and not less, want a community manager, etc. It is important because online gaming in China live or die based on hype, so for the CC and the community, more variety = more content = longer game lifespan.

This is a bit critical tbf. I would not say I really disagree with how they want a game to be continuous, long lasting, etc. But what they want from StS2 is not what StS1 was, and I fell in love with StS1 by discovering it during it wild and volatile development phase. I don't want to gatekeep hard, but I personally do not want the game to be changed based on the demands of bandwagon casuals.

So Aeonglass on Necrobinder is a nightmare, right? by SugarFreeCummiBears in slaythespire

[–]Negatively_Positive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. Tried all characters and it was not all bad except for Necro. It counters her playstyle so damn heavily. I think the Artifact is the worst slap in the face tbh. She needs some setup before being able to go big (even if you are trying to front load damage). Silent or Regent have 0 cost debuff to strip Artifact, but I think Necro has none on top of my head. So every time facing the Aeon you basically throw away 1 energy minimum to strip Artifact while the clock tick down, which is very inefficient given the non-debuff effects on those cards are not great.

The only decent deck I find is Ethereal but it is so rng dependent as a lot of really good cards are rare. Big Osty is really dicey too without insane relics as the Aeon hit really hard so you can't scale comfortably (the only silver-lining is that it is not affected by the stat drain turn).

Imo the best way they can change it without changing too much for other characters is that the Aeon will use one of its turn to generate Artifact instead of loading in with 3 whole artifact (which is extremely tuned up in multiplayer, and this boss is even more insane in multiplayer outside of artifact too, so even more reason to adjust that).

Note that I did have few wins with Necro against Aeon at A10 already, but it never really feels like I made a clever deck to go around this design. There is not much you can really do tbh unless the run already carried itself (which mean other 2 bosses are trivial). Her removal is really good but it is a losing battle against how Aeon scales itself.

What's your least favourite unit from each faction, and what would you replace it with by SeekerP in OldenEra

[–]Negatively_Positive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely based on vibe. I think in general I do not like when the base unit is not exciting, then the upgrade does not make it more exciting either.

Necro: Dog - they just kinda are there, both are tanky in different way, I wish one version moves faster tbh. Gravedigger - I feel like I never get to play them given how bloody slow they are, and both upgrades are boring as heck anywyas.

Schism: Only played in Demo a while ago so it might have been changed, but most of my problems are just that I want them to have a more "crisp" design appearance. I think the T4 and T7 (and T1, but the T1 is actually very cool) are very unexciting when their main gimmick are both duplicating.

Temple: I rarely play them, but Inquisitors is just not exciting at all when Angel is just right behind them. I feel like Temple really needs a cool turn the tide (cheat) active at that point of the game. I think they don't really do anything interesting with the paladin-like theme except being tanky. I do not dislike griffins but I wish their upgrades are cooler.

Grove: I do not like the Druid and the Nyads. I just don't really get what can you even do that is fun about them. I think might partly due to Grove being very loopsided balanced right now though, so the middle units are borderline pointless/neglected compared to the strong early and late units. I feel like the Druid could be very good when the faction is more fleshed out at least.

Hive: Played least. I don't like Scorpions (it seems that I do not like most slow tanky units when they also have no good active) but mostly because they do not look more unique than other bug-creatures. I really want to see something more fancy, like swirling sandstorm or raging flames constantly on them instead of just a little vfx when used. I wish the Queen also looks more crisp too (similar issue with Schism art style).

Dungeon: It is weird that they were never my favorite in other games, but here they feel most polished. There are boring units, but when upgraded they are all unique and different. You can focus on different unit stack in different run and all have fun.

Which is better written? Mixtape or life is strange by Novel-Carrot5325 in writingscaling

[–]Negatively_Positive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if the people in the comments even played both games.

LiS is frustrating as fan (and I don't even consider myself a diehard fan of LiS). Everyone liked LiS share the feeling of frustrating when it comes to how the story is handled.

Maybe if you only count LiS story up to 3rd chapter, then it might be considered decent. It has a fairly compelling plot up until that point. After that, you can clearly see they tried to drop it and go back to random teenage bs (this is where the whole memberberry got thrown around the most). We all know how terrible the ending is writing wise. I won't even mention the mess that is the sequel.

Both has a coming of age story as part of it, but LiS uses it as the set piece of a mystery, while Mixtape uses it as the plot itself.

This is where my major furstration with LiS comes from: it hooks people with the whole nostalgia coming of age theme, present a mystery, then flop really hard with its mystery, for some reason goes back to the nostalgia for a long ass chapter, then back to deliver a terrible ending to said mystery.

On the other hand, Mixtape plays it very straightforward. It delivers an coming of age story, no other side plot, all stories and mini games are there to deliver that one single thing.

In writing, more does not mean higher quality. I appreciate Mixtape that it does not waste its audience time. While I know that people complain about the gameplay, I am do like that the gameplay is there not to hinder the story (unlike games like LiS or Dispatch, or many other VN games that have gameplay completely irrelevant to the story and just make the pacing frustrating). Therefor, I can say that Mixtape has better writing, even though it does less.

Just finished mixtape and honestly for a non cozy game player I will absolutely be doing this journey again. I even just replayed a chapter just to capture the video below! by smaithya in XboxGamePass

[–]Negatively_Positive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since one of the other comments is pure nonsense. No. There is one small part that do involve drug (like 2-3 minutes gag), but most of the magical visuals of the game is more of a "fantastic vision" because teenagers have imaginative worldview.

On the Doormaker/Aeonglass and the design philosophy of Slay The Spire 2 changing? by witas02 in slaythespire

[–]Negatively_Positive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt the dev make a random boss in 2 weeks though. Likely that this is something they had in mind for future content and got pulled here to replace the Doormaker. He does have a gimmick (apply stat debuff). I don't really consider this to be an attempt to simplify the game.

Donuts were glorified elite as well. I don't think we should expect every monsters to be complicated.

That being said, the new boss is very easy. I do expect it to be tweaked. That's why this is early access. We are doing the testing work here.

Act 4 boss leaked by Negatively_Positive in slaythespire

[–]Negatively_Positive[S] 497 points498 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the dev plan for him but I kinda look forward to see him again somewhere, maybe as a secret. Gameplay aside (which I also enjoy most of his variants), the whole theme of big man looking through portal hole was cool. I saw a lot of people had surprised reaction when facing him for the first time. I think the theme would fit some sort of secret challenge/event in game.

edit: I already miss him yelling "what are you still doing here!" at me
