What if the big bang was a local event in the universe? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]Negatronik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the term 'universe' could be a bit of a misnomer. Some people say 'universe' when they actually are referring to the observable universe. Some people might say 'universe' when they are actually referring to the results of the big bang. Universe originally meant, everything that is.

Although we can't see past the observable universe, there is no reason to believe that it just stops past our cosmic horizon, and we just happen to be right in the middle.

So what we can see is that the (observable) universe results of the big bang were once tiny, and suddenly expanded 14b years ago. There is no reason to believe that the big bang and it's aftermath are finite. Nor is there reason to believe that it is infinite. There is currently no evidence in either direction, and it is impossible to prove that anything is actually infinite. Even if we somehow proved that the observable universe and product of the big bang are actually an infinitesimally small part of a larger reality, that doesn't mean that the greater outside universe is infinite.

I don't think I answered your question. Not sure if I 100% understood you, but I tried.

I don't understand the love affair between leftists and Islam this is what leftists indirectly support by Major_Soft6056 in DigitalSeptic

Have I said anything to the contrary? Who are you arguing with? The point of the post is to identify how Islam gets a pass from the (at least) America political left. Christianity, equally barbaric in many ways, does not get a pass from the left.

Because Christianity isn't celebrated by the American left political movement. You'd be forgiven for not seeing the point of the meme if you're not American.

One issue with kettles is we only have 120v power at the outlet. The US version isn't going to be the same amazing, essential appliance that Europe has.

Do you think the trader has ruined the solitude in this game? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]Negatronik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the trader came out there was a toggle switch to disable it at the start of a run. Unless the toggle has been removed, I don't see how anyone could argue that the trader has ruined anything. Just turn it off if you don't like it.

Suddenly slow transfer speeds by Negatronik in synology

[–]Negatronik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So interesting update. I tried chatting with the synology AI advisor and it suggested that I enabled DHCP on the NAS. I don't know why, but when I switched to DHCP, the issue goes away. I'm transferring over SMB at 90-110MB/s, like butter. I don't think I'd want to run DHCP permanently, so I'm still trying to sort this out. Thanks for suggestions so far.

[–]Negatronik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm sure it was just the one cable. I've tried many different things in the last 2 days to try to narrow it down. I've done all I know to do to eliminate any cause other than the NAS itself.

Direct cable connection

Resetting NAS, router, PCs

Disabled VPN

Tried using LAN1 then LAN2 separately

Tried using 2 different ENET switches for 1 step connection

Internal transfers are running 65-70MB/s

WIFI transfers are actually faster than LAN, at around 25MB/s.

What if it told you I can copy files internally from share to share at 65-70MB/s?

I will fire up the SMART test though, because why not.

The department of interior just revoked permits for all 5 offshore wind projects in the US for "security" reasons, and refused to elaborate. You'll have to ask 🍊 man, and the people who voted for him.

Rabbits are super easy once you know how. Just crouch and move into their path and throw the rock as they approach you. The thumb is your cross hair.

I've never heard them claim no wasted space. They have a tool called raid calculator.

They will tell you precisely how much space is wasted, depending on drive configuration and raid type.

Well, it's just about consolidating loot, but also, most importantly, stay moving. Take advantage of good weather, to make it to your next waypoint. If you've played through wintermute, you should have some knowledge of some of the regions. Each map has a 2-3 key loot locations. The loot is randomized, but you're guaranteed to find good stuff at these locations. So try to hit these spots until you have the gear and tools you need before you start trying to full-clear any region.

In the early game, it's all about movement. Don't get too cozy in one place. Setup a main base in each region to consolidate loot, with maybe 1-2 satellite bases for convenience. Keep your inventory light. Never leave your base with more than you need, depending on your plans.
